I dunno if this is meant to be a specific scheme. It seems more like he's stirring the pot so to speak. Promoting some chaos, setting people on a collision course to keep them off balance, which might yield something constructive for his goals but will also turn attentions away from him.

There's pretty good odds that Susan already knows she's adopted and just hasn't told anyone. She isn't exactly keen on volunteering personal details. -
Nanase, master of rhetorical self-sabotage.

To an immortal, whether a mortal perishes now or of old age in fifty years makes very little difference. Death and mortality are something outside their experience. It's not hard to see why he'd have a callous indifference about killing one to advance some tangible goal.

I haven't watched Firefly *prepares for the Inquisition* -
Just finished reading When Titans Clashed by David M. Glantz and Jonathan House. It's kind of a breeze through the history of WW2 on the Eastern Front at only 400 odd pages, but the bird's eye view helps maintain context. Been reading it partly for my own intellectual curiosity, as it is one of the first Western histories of that theater to have access to declassified Soviet archives, but it's also related to one of my own projects. I've been drawing inspiration from that awful conflict for a sci fi novel series I've been working on.

That's always a good choice. I've been rewatching it with my sister recently

"You might call them soft, because they're very reluctant to kill, and they might agree with you, but they're soft the way the ocean is soft, and, well; ask any sea captain how harmless and puny the ocean can be." ~Iain M. Banks, Use of Weapons

I have pretty sensitive hearing and I can't reliably tell the difference. I've read the research on lossy audio compression, and I tend to be very skeptical of people who make the claim that they can distinguish. The algorithms they use have gotten very sophisticated, and a lot of what goes on in audiophile groups is just pure woo. When it comes to audio quality, most encoding standards are unlikely to be your bottleneck, especially for plain old stereo sound. You'd need more overhead for 5.1, but this is the part that's often forgotten, you also need the hardware to take advantage of that. If you're like most people, listening to something off generic computer speakers or the earbuds from their iPhones, the bottleneck isn't what vorbis setting you used, or whether you opted for the AAC instead of the old mp3s, it's gonna be your hardware.

Yeah for a man whose job is built around operational security, he sure is careless about it in his personal life.

EGS: After Dark? It would be a nice thread to see pulled, but alas, it's part of the category of things Dan has made clear he is uncomfortable writing about/illustrating (though I'm surprised he's doing pinups as part of Patreon awards now).

He seems to transition personalities pretty quickly though, so I don't really think that bleed through is a real danger. The wrinkle is that each personality, though, might not want to switch. Lust-for-life Heidi may not want to turn into stick-in-the-mud Elliot. Though I don't think they're so much separate personalities but different facets of Elliot's core personality, with different traits emphasized or diminished as needed.

It's a longish novel. I enjoy slowly unravelling a mystery, so that was the draw for me. In terms of pacing, the show is a bit slower than I'd like, but they grab your attention very quickly with the visuals. It really does look like the future.

With spellbooks, skim-reading has real life consquences. Hopefully he'll learn now; after all, don't they say "third times the charm"? -

I didn't post much in the last incarnation. Looking forward to changing that.
