Daithi "David" Chambers grew up a normal boy in a small suburban house with his mother and his father. He went to school. He had quite a few close friends. He had everything that most normal people can expect out of their early teenage years. In fact, there were only two things that really stood out about him: he was exceptionally bright, and he was a huge fan of comic books. And, really, all of this is true to this day. Except for the part about him being normal. Normalcy was stripped from him on fateful night…
With no weekend plans to keep him occupied, David was in his room, working on an experiment of his own design. He wanted to see what happened when you mixed equal amounts hard water and mongoose blood. Suddenly, just as he finished pouring the two liquids together, a bolt of lightning struck!… the tree outside of his window. After cleaning up his (bizarrely stocked) chemistry set and noting that the two ingredients made a disgusting but otherwise uninteresting mixture, David went outside to survey the damage.
Luckily, beside the charred tree and grass, nothing seemed to be too damaged, so David started walking back inside. However, on his way through the yard, he noticed a glint of gold among the blackened grass. Picking it up, it appeared to be a fairly large coin made out of gold. Since he couldn’t recognize any of the designs, and couldn’t tell what language the markings were in, David assumed it was either antique or fake. Taking it inside and to his computer, he searched for over an hour without finding a single piece of useful information. Leaning back in his chair, he picked up the coin and looked it over. I can’t find a value, a country of origin, or even whether or not you’re real. I wish I could find out at least something about you.
And, suddenly, he knew all about the coin. He knew that the reason he couldn’t find anything online was because it was the only one of its kind, and it wasn’t even from the same reality. It was a coin with the power to grant any wish its owner made, with the unusual benefits of granting them in an entirely benevolent way, and granting an infinite number of wishes. The only limit was that it was used too selfishly or too often, it would cause the coin to disappear and find a new owner in another reality.
Excited at the possibility of having his every wish granted, David started to think about what to ask for. Money? Power? Fame? All of those choices would almost certainly violate the rule. Looking around for ideas, he happened to see a comic book lying on the table: Flash (vol. 2) #1, the first appearance of Wally West as The Flash, David’s favorite superhero.
That’s not a bad idea. David thought. If I had superpowers, there’s no way I wouldn’t enjoy it. And as long as I have the power to help people, I’m definitely going to, so it’s not selfish… “I wish I was as fast as The Flash!”
The coin did it’s work, granting David the ability to move at speeds that can surpass even that of light. Like the Flash himself, he had the ability to move at virtually any rate he could dream of. That was one wish that he never came to regret.
Since that day, David has only wished a few more time. Once was for the costume that he now wore, which gives him far more protection than any skintight fabric could reasonably provide. Another wish was granted when he started to grow bored with his normal world, and wished that he could visit someplace far more interesting. This opened up a private portal from his world to the city of Tandy, where something exciting was sure to happen ten times a second, just fast enough for the new resident of Tandy Gardens. The coin was stored safely in his own world, and would never see any action in any other. It was set aside for all but a few very special occasions.

Equipment: David doesn’t carry much with him when he travels. In fact, he really only has his clothing on him when he’s in costume. The costume is a tight piece of material, made of black fabric that shows his muscles and cuts down on air resistance, but that stretches enough to come on and off readily. Recently, he has upgraded the suit, having it enchanted by one of the shorter-lived stores in Downtown Tandy. It is now capable of resisting damage to the point where, while not nearly as durable as most armor, it now could stop most small shrapnel, grazing bullets, and low powered energy attacks.
Each glove of the suit is equipped with a special device, designed to be small enough not to interfere with David's motion. The right glove leeches off of and stores a small fraction of the vast amounts kinetic energy that it experiences, releasing it on demand in a system similar to that of a stun gun. The left glove contains a minuscule chemical sprayer, capable of storing and releasing a large variety of substances. However, storage space limits the speedster to carrying only two types of chemicals at a time. Both gloves are activated with a vibrational switch, ensuring that only those capable of reaching and maintaining a specific vibrational frequency can turn them on. The knuckles have also been given a treatment with a metal built for high-velocity impacts, adding weight to his normal punches.
The outfit's boots have also been modified. Using another vibrational switch, spikes can be extended or retracted from the soles. Normally they would be used for additional traction while running, but there is nothing stopping them from adding to the injury caused by a kick. All three vibrational switches in the suit have their own unique frequency that must be maintained for 10 milliseconds before they will activate.
Inside of the suit, there are a few small pockets, though only large enough for paper money or identification.

Appearance: Speed dresses in a tight fitting costume in order to reduce air resistance. He has several costumes in three different colors. His favorite is a black and red version, but he also wears a mostly red costume on occasion. He rarely wears his yellow one, but will wear it when the mood strikes him. The tight fitting costume reveals a muscular and skinny build of a world class sprinter, and his hazel eyes can be seen through his mask. On the rare occasion his mask comes off, his messy brown hair can be clearly seen.
Abilities:
Spoiler
Super Speed: Widely considered to be one of the fastest things in the Forums, Speed can move at velocities unimaginable to most. He can travel at speeds up to and past that of light. Due to the extremity of this sole power, it is so far unheard of for anyone to match him, even when magically enhanced. For instance: Though he could theoretically travel FTL indefinitely, the fact that Speed was inspired by fictional heroes takes its effect during fights in the form of subtle mental blocks, which keep him moving at whatever velocity he would imagine would be appropriate in a comic book fight. This results in his top speed varying wildly through the course of a fight.
It should be noted that, though his power was granted through magical means, his speed is in no way magical itself, and there is absolutely no magical energies lingering within him.
Though this is his only power, Speed has become adept at using his ability in a variety of ways. The following are all variations of his speed.
Sonic Booms: By moving in excess of the speed of sound, sonic booms can be created. Depending on the velocity and mass of the motion, varying levels of destruction can occur.
Hand-to-Hand Combat: Due to his speed, Speed is an incredibly effective combatant when fighting face-to-face. He can throw several hundred punches in the course of a few seconds. Since his strength is only that of a normal man, he relies mainly on wearing down endurance and stamina, as opposed to heavy blows.
Evasiveness: Even when at a distance, Speed can dodge the vast majority of projectiles and blows, as his reaction time and reflexes are at levels proportional to his speed. Also, by jerking in the direction of a force, he can reduce the damage he receives from it, though having normal human endurance, it is never practical to take blows head on.
Tornado: By quickly running in a circular shape, Speed can create enough wind to produce a violent tornado. The intensity depends on how fast he is moving and how long he is able to continue his pattern.
After-Images: By moving several times faster than the eyes can follow, Speed can produce after-images in his exact likeness, indistinguishable through optical means. These can provide an effective distraction, though they can be rendered useless by an alternative form of sight, or by the use of another sufficiently advanced sense.
Vibration: By making short, rapid motions, Speed can vibrate himself or objects in his grasp. This can be used to shatter materials, break bonds, or to create friction/heat.
Mass Punch: By moving at speeds approaching that of light, Speed can increase his mass to the point where his blows are exponentially more powerful than normal. However, repeated use can create fatigue if used rapidly in succession. (Yes, the name comes from the Flash comic books.)
Hyper-drive: If given enough time to concentrate (usually, even a few seconds will suffice), Speed can push himself to the point that the world will have seemed to come to a halt. This state lasts for a very brief amount of time and it is incredibly powerful, though it is extremely exhausting.
Accelerated Healing: Due to an increased metabolism, blood-clotting rates and immune system, Speed can quickly heal from injury or toxins. However, recovery can still last several hours, so this ability serves primarily to allow him to survive damage after a battle.
Self-Immunity: While the feats Speed performs would kill most humans instantly, Speed receives no damage from his motion. He is not burned by the friction he creates or harmed by air resistance, and he will not be hurt by vibrating or punching any more than if it were at normal speeds. However, heat and trauma from outside forces, and even collisions, can and will hurt.
Wide Range of Knowledge: Due to an extreme excess of time, Speed has read many books and trained himself often, making him proficient in nearly every area of study, though he is a master of few.
