Back in my day...

*ahem*

Back during the ye-olde Keenspot days, it was a fairly regular thing to have a bunch of people post colorizing of the comics as Dan posted them. 'course, it started out as avatar grabs that just needed coloring, but swiftly grew to include colorizing the whole comic. No prizes other than a sense of accomplishment and the accolades of one's peers, but it was a fun little exercise.

Are these still going on under a new name, or is it something nobody cares about anymore?

People refrained from colouring complete comics, because Dan has stated that he doesn't like that (can't remember where, though). As for the avatar colourizing... maybe the people who did that left or aren't motivated anymore... strip slaying seems to be pretty popular, though (not to be confused with strip scrabble).

Aha! It's a HelenNet!

But getting down to SERIOUS BUSINESS:

Dan doesn't like wholesale coloring of comics. He doesn't mind if one or two are done in, say, a three-month period. At least, that's how I understand it. So coloring comics occasionally doesn't matter to him too much. Just not coloring every single strip as he releases them.

People should color them anyway if they feel like it.

Yes, just not post them all over the internet or make a habit out of it. Dan's copyright, he has say over what happens with it etc...

Awesome. Need moar. One panel at a time is allowed, said Dan, unless you do the entire comic panel by panel that is =P

My main objection when it comes to posting colorized comics in these forums, and what I'd wind up getting mean about, would be colorizing entire comics and/or posting them in the reaction threads.

Colorizing certain panels and such for forum avatars is all in good fun and something I would actually encourage. In fact, I used to link to a thread full of fan-made avatars back on Keenspot. If another avatar thread was made and done properly, I would put a link to it from the extras page on the site. I'm not sure what "properly" would be, though. I'll sort that out sometime later after I've had some sleep ^^;

Please note that I've had this debate before and have no intent of debating it again anywhere on these forums.

Well, I'd like to be able to use the last panel of this comic as an avatar, with the characters colored so as to make them a reference to the Heralds series by Mercedes Lackey, and thus more closely fitting my username then my current avatar. That would mean all white clothing for Grace, and white hair and blue eyes for Tedd. I know it's a bit silly to ask for a coloring job where the predominant color is white, but I really suck at coloring.

White, eh? I think that's actually much harder than anything else, but I'll give it a try.

In the meantime: 3 more!

all free for grab, of course.
And I'm curious what's more popular here: transparent or opaque background?

Didn't you insist at some point that the name was a girlified one in honor of the Sister 2 storyline and that you would return to being Chaos Priest once it was over?

Been a while indeed since people did avatars. I heartily endorse, especially when they are this good.

No, during the Sister 2 storyline I had a line in my sig saying I was temporarily Herald Alanna Loveall. I had wanted to change my actual username to that during that time but there were some issues there. Now that the storyline is over I've dropped that part of my sig.
