I think Dan will go with Sirleck just being out in the boonies and out of range of the nearest Immortal when the vampire apocalypse it.

The angle at which he's glancing at the light makes me think there's an Immortal reasonably nearby, but that could be wrong.

If Sirleck is in the spirit plane, Immortals aren't restricted to guiding and empowering; they can attack him freely and directly, as Helena, Demetrius, Pandora, and Voltaire all attacked Magus. But to possess someone, I think Sirleck must be partially on the mortal plane. This may be his biggest protection; Immortals may be reluctant or even restricted from attacking him directly at all when he's not possessing a host.

I'm too lazy to look thru the archives, but I think it's been mentioned that Sirleck is fair game because he's on the spirit plane.

BTW, if my "out of range" assumption is correct, Helen and Demetrius can't be shadowing Elliot. So maybe the spirit plane get-out-of-hell-free card is playable by Sirleck. Much good it will do him not too much later, though, because he is visible when he's not using a host, and, therefore, probably fully on the mortal plane. And anyone who was lucky enough to learn Pandora's spell (Tedd can't be the only one) should be able to fry the body-thief.

"a spell no mortal could learn"

Considering there's a limited range to the spell and Zeus was in the mall. Sirleck being unaffected not only means he was just out of range, but that Helena and Demetrius are nowhere near him....So where the fruit are they?  Also, I guess this would solve the "has Sarah used her spell enough for Adrian to safely remove the dam?" question, since Pandora seems to have done the job there.

I think Sirleck is unaffacted because he is in the spirit plane, rather than the physical plane. Dan did make sure to point out that all the Immortals were pulled into the physical plane before casting the spell, so that detail is probably important.

So, Susan's hair become a reservoir of magic. I wonder if the capacity of that reservoir is dependent on the length of her hair. That would give her a good, logical reason not to cut it.

Would that make Susan some kind Super Saiyan Samson?

Assuming the records came primarily from European sources at all. When Pandora talked to the Emissary she mentioned that magic changed during her previous life, which based on what little we know about her means the change in magic likely happened sometime between 800 and 1,300 years ago. While there are European organizations that old, European records from that time frame are... Spotty. But there were several other regions in the world during that time frame which were more stable and would have been better able to preserve records

Monastic record keeping was pretty good during that period, actually. And while a lot has been lost, much has survived by copying, and I assume secret magical organizations would be pretty good at that.

I wish that they would license somebody to start producing those again.

Unicomp owns all the patents and copyrights, as well as all the original tooling that was used to make the Model M.
They do unfortunately use a different plastic, and make it thinner.

In the meantime, I can only hope that Dan will chose a different reward system in the near future.  Personally, I would like to see more new commentary about old comics.  Looking into the artist's mind while he contemplates his old work is intriguing.

I know this is a late reply, but I recall Dan saying that he considers the new commentary thing fully payed for, and that he will get it done one day. So it wouldn't make sense as a reward anymore.

Never mind my personal favorite,Lapsang souchong which way of the normal tea taste, but is in fact a real tea not a herbal.

Ah, that is also my personal favorite, you have a great taste in tea.

    Magic bergamot oil.

I think they also use leaves from differently grown tea bushes, hence why english breakfast being stronger despite both being made from black tea.

Maybe it's the difference between black, oolong, green, and white tea?  Hmm, wonder if they brew roobios, too, that would probably make you ginger....

Those all also exist in hundreds of different blends, making for all kinds of variation, I'm guessing.

Like, what's the difference between magic earl grey and magic english breakfast?

Part of my mind is telling me that this, given the context, could be a desire spell. Like, Kitty's magic unconsciously read Robbie's (as that is what i'm calling him now because he looks like the Gravity Falls character to me) mind and granted his wants at the appropriate moment in Kitty's recount.

I'm thinking his desire probably lowered his spell resistance.

    Quote

Susan has always had issues with physical contact, but she wanted to work on becoming more comfortable with it.

Knowing this, Sarah had a proposition for Susan. She would allow Susan to practice touching her in any way she wants while Sarah remain passive, giving Susan complete control and freedom over the situation. Sarah would, of course, have the option to end the practice session any time she wanted to.

It began slowly, with Susan simply, and hesitantly, touching Sarah's arm. As time went on, however, Susan moved on to reaching under Sarah's shirt to feel her belly, and before she knew it, she was removing clothing to better feel the skin undeneath.

At no point did Sarah object. With each bit of escalation, she only smiled more, delighted with what was happening, and what was to follow as Susan became even more adventurous...

I don't think he would do that. The best Sarah could probably do is simulate abilities that produce a visual effect, like morphing, although what Sarah did wasn't really a morph, it seemed more like an instant change that the gradual morphs Dan has shown us. Granted it might have been due to a lack of panel space, but I think if Dan truly wanted us to know she could use other people's abilities, he'd have made it more clear if it was a proper morph.

Oh no, I don't think Sarah did a proper morph, since she thinks she can't. Whether or not she can is up for the future though.

  12. Hmm, you know, there haven't actually been anything that shows that she can't use other people's abilities (rather than just imagining them). Last comic had her question why she didn't see herself glowing, but she wasn't using any spells in the simulation, so of course she wouldn't glow, and this comic she didn't even try to use Tedd's mark. This feels like a red herring, Dan is trying to make us think that she can't simulate abilities, without actually showing it.

We do have a chat room right here on 910cmx.

*points to the row of tabs at the top of the page, just below the site logo*

If you go in the chat room, a little red number appears on the Chat tab, letting everyone know how many people are in there.  That can be seen by everyone who comes to the site!

    Haha, I hadn't noticed that!

I guess my server is mostly for people who already uses discord, though one big advantage with discord is that message history is preserved, so it's more discussion oriented than this web-chat.

...hm, not a big fan of hairless cats.  Now on the other hand, Catalina as a sphinx (as opposed to a sphynx) would be neat. :)

So I assume there's some background for Catalina being a bobcat that I'm missing/forgetting?

    Her surname is Bobcat.

I'm thinking we have to be getting to the point where graphics quality can't be noticeably improved any further and so hardware would be able to get ahead, as far as I can tell, we've plateaued on audio quality years ago (I base this mainly on the fact that I haven't heard anyone saying I need to use X audio card instead of the one integrated with the motherboard) though audio mixing is a thing that requires different hardware altogether but can be done on the fly easily enough with little impact on CPU, most people when rendering video, can't do much else until it's done.

Audio has only plateaued in the areas of encoding, decoding, and playback of simple audio, one big thing we can't do yet without noticeable performance degradation—or heck, even doing it in the first place—is the generation of proper, real time audio effects, like echos, muffled sound, true 3d positional audio, or just how audio spreads past obstacles of different materials.

As a comparison, realistic echos require complex calculations that are at least as complicated global illumination, which has been something of a pipe dream in graphics programming for ages.

We haven't discussed this lately, have we?  Hmm....a form becomes permanent if you get pregnant while transformed....and Tedd now thinks he can figure out how to change someone else's "default" sex....so maybe you could transform into an 18-year-old girl, then get pregnant, have the baby, and then if you're male gender, you get Tedd to turn you to a now-19-year-old male version of the girl you became permanently by getting pregnant.  If they all plan ahead and the guys get gender-swapped-but-otherwise-unchanged versions of themselves saved, then they can become their own normal self but younger.

No need for the pregnancy, Tedd thinks that (s)he can make transformation wands that changes someone base form, and presumably it would work with any transformation. Just load up that "me when I was 18" form into a perma-wand and BAM! I'm definitely asking about this next Q&A.

  16. I wanted to put this in an edit, but the edit box seems messed up.

The case of Xerox is actually pretty funny, Xerox's Palo Alto Research Center created all kinds of cool, ahead of the times stuff, but because executives didn't really understand why anyone would use that stuff, a lot of it was more or less given away, for example, what became the modern desktop under Apple. I have code running on my computer that is copyright Xerox Corp 1985, because they gave it out for free, under an open license.

Edit: apparently, I'm getting white text on white background in the editing box. Also, does anyone know to make a horizontal bar in the formatting?
