Her expression in that panel fits with what Dan established in Goonmanji 2 about Ashley being worried about going mad with power, this could very well be Ashley looking back on her stories and thinking "I might actually be able to do this to people one day" and it's bothering her.

I was wondering if she had come to the realization that her stories were no longer as interesting as what's happening in the real world, but I think you're probably right.

Either way, I don't approve.  Smart women shouldn't be made dumb.

Personally I find it cute/sexy and funny in this sort of context - we know Nanase will be returned to normal at some point, and we know that NP is not canon.  If it were canon I might feel differently but a lot would depend on the circumstances.

Sirleck seems pretty impatient to get this over with, which is why I figured he would be too focused on the mission for (intentionally) ogling Ellen. Also, that's not a particularly lecherous look on their face. It could be one of mild surprise, though, which fits Circe's idea that Sirleck was not thinking about Ellen's breasts until he folded her arms and found them in the way.

(Just to be clear, I've agreed with Circe's idea since she made her post. My mentioning a similar idea I had rejected was not meant as an argument against her idea, but merely as a long-winded way of saying "Oh, I was so close, but I missed it!")

Does this mean no cookie?!?  ;)

Agree. Although not girly doesn't mean not awkward, maybe there is some other misconception - wait, wouldn't Elliot get CAT-related spells now?

I was thinking the same thing....and maybe that's how things will be awkward.  Goth catgirl, anyone?  Or imagine catgirl Heidi - Ellen would be gleefully throwing her a ball of yarn to play with.

Of the 2-3 times Elliot's read his spellbook, Ellen's read hers 5 times.

Ok maybe Ellen's read hers more than that, but she's probably nowhere near Nanase when it comes to studying it. And I still think Nanase reads hers maybe every day, she just doesn't always read over old spells to see if they've gained any new features.

And so any guesses one what Elliot just got? New girly spell? Or finally got a manly spell?

I've said it before, but this always amazes me.  If I had a magic spell book that occasionally added new spells to itself (automagically of course), I would be checking said spell book at least once a day.  Or twice.  Or hourly. :)

My guess is that the spell is at least not-specifically-girly.  We were told that Elliot needed to start liking the non-girly spells so that Magic would believe he was satisfied with that type of spell, and the "vrm" moment occurred after he decided he liked being sexy as a cheerleader-themed heroine, so it seems logical that we're about to see what Magic now thinks Elliot wants and that whatever that is would not require turning into a girl.

Now given that EGS is One Big Awkward Moment, it would be totally consistent for the new spell to turn him into a girl anyway just to get the WTH reaction from Elliot.  Naturally that will be followed by a wall o'text exposition to explain why Magic = boobs for Elliot!

  6. Sigh.  I realize I'm not the most patient person, but really?  An entire comic devoted to "we're nervous about reading the note?" On Wednesday are we going to have a debate about the risks associated with reading the note, and then on Friday a brave decision to read the note, with the last panel on Friday being the two of them saying "oh my!" as they read the note but don't tell us what it says?

    Or what?

    :)

  7. I don't believe Tedd's thinking very clearly.  She said she is at school as a girl because she wants to decide whether she'd rather be stuck as male or female.  The problem is she is in a very boyish form and wearing boy's clothes - so everyone is going to treat her as though she's a boy.

IRL when a person is considering sex reassignment, the doctors typically have them dress and live as their desired gender for an extended period of time.  This is intended to help them get an idea what it will be like before they permanently alter their body.  Tedd has kind of turned this on its head - she's altered her body but is going to school as a boy!

My guess is that her emotions are getting in the way of her thoughts.   She also does not have an option to go to school as a girl, unless she went as someone else.  Maybe Sarah would agree to a switch for a day or two?  I'll bet that Ashley would do it but a) Tedd doesn't know her that well yet and b ) Elliot would be weirded out by it. :)

So are we going to end up with a pair of munchkins?

My guess is that the enchantments are merging, so we're going to end up with all three things (size, appearance, and cat-girl-ness) affecting both of them. Twin catgirls anyone? :)   Also, since Rhoda got bigger and Catalina got smaller, they'll probably end up as some average of the two, and Dan will have some math in his commentary that explains how they end up whatever size they end up.

My crystal ball is working overtime today. :D

And that would be why the majority of women carry purses if they aren't already carrying a larger bag/backpack of some sort.

I think that the reason for women's clothes having fewer/smaller pockets is because the whole design of modern women's clothes (at least the ones that are meant to show off a woman's figure) is for them to be close-fitting and hug their curves relatively tightly. Having bulging pockets detracts from this. So yes, you can blame men's sexual attraction (and/or women's desire to attract sexual attention) for it.

Who paid for their food at the Food Court? That person would have to have had either a purse or a sufficiently large pocket that would allow them to carry cash or a debit/credit card. Granted, a card is a lot smaller than Catalina is now, but there are ways to conceal the pocket (if that's what was used).

Girls (and guys for that matter) can't really leave home without a few necessities:  phone, keys, cash/credit card, and ID.  And most will have a lot more than that...a wallet, makeup, comb or brush, charging cable for the phone, etc, etc.  Catalina may have had those things in her pants pockets, but surely Rhoda has a purse if she doesn't have pockets.  It could be a little clutch but she must have something to carry her stuff in.

If she really doesn't, I suppose Rhoda could take off her jacket and carry it in her arms.  Catalina could hide in the folds long enough for Rhoda to walk out of the mall.  It would look a little odd, but less odd than a tiny cat girl!  A slightly naughtier version would have Catalina tucked into the waist of Rhoda's skirt, under the jacket.

Or we could be back to the Catalina-pretends-to-be-a-doll thing....which honestly sounds more like something Dan would do.

The bus would stop moving in the simulation. And if she willed it to start moving, then the same would happen if she walked to the edge of the 'snapshot' in the simulation, just she would get there much faster. Though I have no clue what would happen if she tries to move beyond the bounds of the spell's 'snapshot'

The end of life as we know it, fire and brimstone, cats and dogs living together.

....or probably the bus just stops. :)

Problem is that, at least for now, Sarah can only have people in her simulation if they are with her when she uses the spell. Doing... things with people, while still being in front of them, may feel a bit like exhibicionism. And awkward as hell.

I was thinking about that.  Anyone around Sarah might be very suspicious if she starts getting all day-dreamy...even more than most teenagers. :)  Still I recall dozing through classes in high school, especially "study halls", not to mention bus rides.

I am probably forgetting something, but do we know how far the spell goes?  I assume there is some limit....

Huh. When Box said Sarah could make people do things in her simulation, I wasn't expecting them to be autonomous enough to catch Sarah off guard.

Knowing this, would Sarah be able to ask people about anything, and they would answer using that person's knowledge? Assuming an ideal scenario where Sarah's expectations doesn't alter the simulation.

That gets into some interesting scenarios...and not just naughty ones. :) "OK, Mr. Terrorist, you're just like the real you but you really, really want to tell me everything you know...."  We'll have to see if Dan addresses the question of what the spell versions of people know.

Ya know, I really hate to be that guy about this, considering they're still teenagers, but with an ability like this, all sorts of premarital hanky panky could go on with this spell. And the best part is it would be guilt free. But the problem, of course, is that is it consent?

Could?  I think absolutely would.  Come on - teenagers with the ability to create realistic, interactive versions of anyone they can imagine that will act however they want?  They'd starve to death because they'd never come out of the spell!

The kinda sad thing here is that I doubt that Sarah will ever take advantage of the naughtiness potential....because that's the way characters are in Moperville.

Sarah has seen Tedd in various female forms before, so this one is either one she's seen (but we haven't) or yeah, Sarah just imagined a random female form that she felt suited Tedd.

The latter does have implications of how well Sarah has gotten to know Tedd over the past year.

I think it must be something like this, given that there isn't much of Sarah in the "girlified" Tedd form,  That or is Sarah's subconscious showing us a bit of how she wishes she looked?
