My only other connection to ballet was that they played the Ballet of Davy Crockett on the radio a lot around then. Disney made a few shows about him wandering the wilderness in his coonskin cap and tutu. Fess Parker, who was Jed Clampett a decade later, played his sidekick. He killed him a bar when he was only three. Probably got the whiskey contaminated, then got chased out of town for poisoning the patrons, and had to wander the wilderness, until he got elected to Congress. Then, he told them, "You can go to Hell, I'm going to Texas.", and yeah, I can see a rough equivalence, although, most of the time Texas has a milder climate. And Hell is not know for it's tornadoes. But it is known for Willie Nelson, who may have known Davy Crockett. He's been around for a while.

Went on a tiny little tangent, didn't ya? ;)

Nanase being crazy strong without being built like She-Hulk (some hyperbole may be there) could be due to it being based in magic rather than raw muscle.

As it is, she looks right for a martial artist - well-toned, rather than mega-bodybuilder muscle.

Tedd has grown quite a bit from the early "I'm a pervert" days.  Of course I suspect that it being Elliot's shirt he saw through vs some random fem might have been part of the "Gah!" reaction.

I dunno - he's always been against that kind of voyeurism. He even deleted the "see through clothing" option on his glasses.

For some reason it's not letting me link - the relevant strips are in "Lunchtime Revelations," dates 2003-04-22 and 2003-04-23.

Hearing about this later, Diane, a former cheerleader herself, had no idea how to react. She wanted to argue against the mean cheerleader stereotype, as she knew for a fact that most cheerleaders were hard-working, lovely people.

But she also knew she'd acted like a bully sometimes, and didn't want anyone to bring that up.

Even without her own past, I think Diane is perfectly aware that there are reasons that the trope/stereotype exists.

Comic for Friday, Aug 18, 2023

Tedd is in squirrel form, because he is definitely acting squirrelly.

In the first panel, Grace sort of propositions him (Probably not what Dan intended). Original Tedd would have been all over that. Current Tedd doesn't even notice.

But that's what he needs, a damn good reason to go to bed. Kudos, Grace.

Knowing Grace, the proposition would more likely be for cuddles than anything else.

  5. Just finished this strip on a re-read, and for some reason the aliens gave me a "Vl'hurgs and G'gugvuntts" vibe.

Lavender is a bread-stealing ninja.  Grace is a pirate.

EGS will finally bring us the long awaited epic Pirates vs Ninja story arc.

But...since when was Grace a pirate? I thought she was a sleepy little ninja

Cheerleadra flying by seems more contrived than Elliot just showing up, but whatever.

Could have sworn I posted this, but...

I still think it would've been funnier if Elliot had just showed up to pick up Ellen (I think they still share a car),
