Actually, something I've wondered even before now - Pandora implies Mamase is a wizard. Wizardry is hereditary. In the Emissary's exposition, Nanase seems to be used as an example of being born with hereditary magic. When Helena and Demetrius's predecessors visit Susan and Nanase, only Susan is marked. Assuming today's update isn't a red herring, now we know you can be a wizard without knowing. Do we know definitively Nanase isn't?
-
I thought, though, wizards didn't change, only their spells did? The Emissary seemed to imply that - although language might have changed...
(And then there's the question of what else the wand could mean, since we've seen no indication Ashley has any sort of power.)
-
Abraham? I guess he's sort of an "artifact"...
-
I was sure when he said "Occam's razor" that the artifacts had activated and the staff had panicked.
-
I feel like we're building up to a twist here... nothing as extreme as Ellen taking him up on it, but not the reaction Elliot (and we) are expecting.
-
Elliot I think had stopped listening by then - that was for our benefit alone.
I'm actually surprised there's no homophobia - Magus's comment about Nanase had me thinking they were basically Pakistan. Then again, since if he had his druthers Ellen would also be a man...
-
I'm reminded of that satirical pamphlet from WWI that calqued the arguments that "a woman's place is in the home" to argue "a man's place is on the front."
-
Is the multiverse uncountable? I thought the whole point of quantum physics was that nothing was really uncountable... (or in our universe, even infinite, but that wouldn't apply to the multiverse).

12 hours ago, Servant of Tara Gilesbie said:I'm calling it now: Dan is using this comic to subtly confirm that Magus was about to wake Ellen up.
I don't think he's trying to be all that subtle - Elliot's just missing it because he's so hotheaded right now.
-
Projection much, Magus?
-
As time's gone on since I read the strip, especially with Dan's comment, I'm softening on Magus. I think he's telling himself what he feels he needs to hear - after all, why would upper body strength matter to a battle mage? I doubt Terra's the only female trainee, either. And it's understandable that he should think Ellen ought to be "fixed."
Honestly, I'm glad the notion of Ellen turning male, whether it happens or not, is being brought up. Dan's aversion to it has always felt to me like plot hole spackle, and hopefully this will give us something more satisfying.
-
"Could be," he said.
-
...aaand just as it was starting to look like Magus might not be so bad after all. Maybe we'll get lucky and Terra'll track him down him just in time for a years-overdue dope slap. Or more likely Elliot will just kick his rear end in. Probably as Cheerleadra.
11 hours ago, Haylo said:I sure hope that by "fix" he means "restore the ability to move easily", not "fasten permanently in place." Insisting that Ellen be given options is one thing, but it sounds like he only wants her to have his selected option...
She's had that option from the moment of her creation, though, and Magus should know that, as long as he's been shadowing the Dunkels.
Ironic that the fact that Ellen is female, and that Elliot's spellbook is basically a long list of female forms (including his strongest), is pretty much entirely Magus's doing.

I find the second panel most interesting; of course she's as opposed as always to "things," but she clearly as always wants to watch "things," she doesn't want not to want that, and Rhoda and Catalina have all but said they'd love to do "things" to her together. All that in mind, it'll be downright tragic if she doesn't end up in their boudoir...

Kind of makes me wonder if Magus modifying the beam was a missed opportunity with Tedd now having the ability to make permanent wands.
-
"I thought you were doing your revision, but no, I find you having a proper think!"
I wonder whether Susan has settled on an appropriate baseball equivalent for herself.
-
Gotta say, Elliot's being a lot more understanding than I was expecting Monday. Or... ever, really.
...also, kinda have to wonder about the way the last panel is set apart - it makes it feel like I'm supposed to feel something, but "AU has slightly different gender naming conventions" isn't exactly Vader-is-Luke's-father.
-
Hmm... Elliot, Justin, and Noah feel like no-brainers. As for the fourth... Tedd feels off-theme... Luke's kinda boring... inviting Sam feels cruel... Rick/Elijah probably wouldn't be much fun without the other... hmm... maybe... ...Larry? Give Larry a games night with three prismatically sexy, increasingly frisky MLM with a fujoshigami as master of ceremonies...
-
Elliot does not seem to be in the mood for a heart-to-heart.
-
"No! You will continue to possess me, rather than possessing the one who just kidnapped me!"
-
Well, that was... bright, and also entirely expected. (Just like... maybeshouldn'tfinishthatsentence.) I have to say, though, for a second I thought Dan had decided to break The Great Ellen Taboo.
Do we know what Sirleck stands to gain from all this? Clearly it's something rather nice, and Magus must have some idea...
-
-
What knowledge does she have to gain from actually following them in, though?
-
Presumably, if Magus uses the Dewitchery Diamond, he'll be another Elliot - I have to think, that since he copied Elliot with all his spells, he'll get them as well. So he may be the other Elliot and Ellen.

...it hits me that Ashley is now (probably) capable of learning Rhoda's powers.
