    Yippee!

...ahem, now that i've gotten that out of my system, it's good to see Magus turning up again, as well as confirmation on the focus 'sister' characters (Susan and Diane, as well as Ellen again, apparently). Also, any bets on who the silhouette in the background is?

EDIT: Ignore this top one if you want to. Accidentally made a duplicate at the same time as the main thread and Old Hack merged them.

Also, the writer, Ryan Sohmer, is somehow even more of a jerkwad, including once having bragged about scaring away a woman criticizing him by threatening to rape her.Not even kidding.

Awful. He sounds like a real piece of work.

LFG is still going? I stopped reading when the elf guy's mentor deliberately arranged for his heart to be broken and then murdered his lover to tie up loose ends.

I feel like i've missed something. What was LFG again?

Interesting ending for a Q&A. Then again, there's a precedent for the final question being a joke one, last time it was about Amanda's date with Raven.

Anyway, Sister III's coming! Or if it's something else, a lot of people will be surprised. I wonder whether the cover at least will be in colour? The previous two were.

This ismy hope, that even if the story as a whole isn't coloured,  the covers are, for effect and all that.

Word of Dan is the next arc will cover the next week.  We might get lucky and it be past February when 2019 rolls around.

It would really depend on when in the month of January we are currently. By logic, the Saturday just gone could be the 11th, the 18th or the 25th, meaning the griffons' date to meet Elliot and co. in 4 weeks would be Saturday the 8th, 15th or 22nd of February, so it has to be February by the time that happens. Also, if the Saturday just gone is the 25th, the Sunday following it, the 26th, is the one year anniversary of when Tedd and Grace first met, oddly enough.

Maybe it's evolving to be more and more athletic?  Start out with a relatively single-purpose form, then become a much more flexible, multi-purpose athlete who works in the same environment?

(Anyone who doubts the athleticism of cheerleaders needs to watch what cheerleaders can do these days!)

(ETA: Huh.  I never thought of myself as having the body of a cheerleader, but I bet I could have made a pretty good "base" on one of these all-girls teams....)

Hmm... it just occurred to me, regardless of where you place it (and I place Football Player as the base form of the evolutionary line, because logic), that actually means that Cheerleader is stronger than Football Player in most or all aspects and stats.

Also, going by naming logic, I can think of a final evolution. That being Cheerleadra. Though to be fair, there's easily better ideas than that.

Maybe they gave him one of those stones that turn pokemons into different pokemons?

What, like a Dewitchery Diamond. I've heard that item's pretty rare. And it only works if the subject has the 'Cursed' status inflicted, anyway.

That would be one of those evolutions which creates a second Pokemon, though, now that I think about it. So that's probably not it.

EDIT: Actually, since I put far too much thought into analyzing the past couple of NP comics (and their commentaries), this is what we can tell about Football Player and Cheerleader by general deduction and Pokemon logic:

    • Football Player is a 1st Stage evolution, as it doesn't appear to believe it exists, so can't have evolved before.
    • Football Player evolves when traded, given visual evidence, though whether specific parameters need to be met is unknown (With Football? With Steelix?).
    • Football Player knows or can learn Seismic Toss, as mentioned.
    • Football Player might be a Fighting type, since most Pokemon able to learn Seismic Toss are, and Seismic Toss is a Fighting type move.
    • Football Player may be able to learn other Fighting type moves aside from Seismic Toss.

    • Cheerleader is a 2nd Stage evolution, by process of logic. Further evolutions are unknown.
    • Cheerleader can learn Bounce, as commentated on.
    • Cheerleader might be a Flying type, since Bounce is a Flying type move, though this is unlikely, since many Pokemon of other types can also learn it.
    • Cheerleader can know Seismic Toss, as it's previous form knows or can learn it. Whether it can learn it if it does not know it already is unknown.
    • Cheerleader might be a Fighting type, as it's previous form might also have been a Fighting type, due to knowing or being able to learn Seismic Toss.
    • Cheerleader might be able to learn other Fighting or Flying type moves.

As I said, far too much thought.

  8. So! Even though 3 posts in a row isn't the best, here it is, from working out.

The Character Count as of the comic on Friday 3rd of June 2016http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=2197

  9. Okay, this is technically a double post (and a bump, really), but it's one with a good reason. The normal runner of this thread and it's appearance counting hasn't updated it since before the site was rebooted. Why is not something I know, nor that I need to know.

What I do know, however, is that because I didn't want to see this thing die, I have taken the most recent version of the character counter we recovered and added the numbers from the strips that followed it up til present, so I have a more recent set of numbers to post. If anyone is interested, I will post them here after today's strip comes in and I add the numbers from there.

This likely won't be something I do regularly, as this isn't actually my thing and I was just interested in where the numbers were up to, but they're here if you want them.

I still believe the current arc (alongside Playing with Dolls and Question Mark) happen January 11th. We'e been given no indication of another time skip between "Family Tree" and "Identity", so it's reasonable to assume that "Identity" takes place the first week back to school.

Anyway 4 weeks would put it February 8th and Dan has stated the next main story arc will mainly be the main eight getting each other up to speed on what happened over the weekend, so as far as when Dan will get around to the next meeting with the griffons, could be towards the end of the year/next year for us depending on what else he does story wise between So a Date and the next meeting.  There's still a possible date between Sarah and Sam, as well as a hopeful storyline for Ellen's upcoming "birthday".

I think there were other things Dan mentioned that might be happening that could only occur in January. I can't remember exactly what they were (bar one, though i'm keeping that one to my chest in case it doesn't end up happening), but he'd likely not skip past them unless he relegated them to NP, so we can be assured it's, as you pointed out, probably still early to mid January.

  11. True, true. Though to be fair, it's probably still January given some of the comments about New Year apparently still being recent and things like that, which means there's a finite number of Saturdays available (11th, 18th and 25th, if i'm not mistaken, though i'd say it's more likely to be one of the first two).
