I imagine all the ones she caught ended up getting sold. I don't think I want to know what happens to them.

Considering the Professor will always take in your Pokemon and always has resources to give you for them, you might want to look twice at that can of Pokelent Green you're holding...  And that's before we talk about the ones the Professor keeps for his research....

  2. Pokemon Go! is the only Pokemon game I've played and the setup so far is consistent with a parody of it.  I haven't played in about 18 months but back when I did....

Pokemon Go incorporated a high degree of planned obsolescence into its gameplay.  The player constantly outlevels her/his pokemon and can constantly catch better pokemon. Players can always sell their castoffs to the Professor, who apparently never runs out of space and is always happy to buy more.  I just caught a better Water Grace?  Off the old one goes to the Professor, never to be heard from again.

  3. On a totally unrelated note,, World cup talk reminded me of World of Warships' Kings of the Sea VI tournament.  WoWS has no pretenses to be an e-sport, but they were enjoyable to watch.

The current match was Russian server vs EU server.  The Russian Server finals were great, pitting Smile Gaming against their stablemates, Smile Saber.  While Smile Gaming swept 3 games  to 0, each game was down to the wire.  Smile Saber went on to demolish the EU runner-up OM to take 3rd place while EU winner RAIN handily beat Smile Gaming 3-1.

I'd include video links but the semi-finals are in an 8-hour long youtube video and the finals are in a 4-hour long one.  That's a lot to push through.

@VorlonagentIn case you haven’t noticed by now Kaladin suffers from Clinical Depression as well Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Seasonal Affective Disorder is especially nasty on their world because of the very fast, semi-random nature of seasons.  I hadn't put those labels on Kaladin but I see what you mean without difficulty.  It was as if his brother Tian got all the "happy" for both of them.  I am deciding whether Tian is a Down's Syndrome case.  Sanderson is clearly describing a known RW condition but my conditions aren't in good condition...   :)

There is a theory going around, after the last DDoS attack on the Eve server, that this was an attempt by one of the larger factions to avoid some sort of in game event by making the game not available.  Never proved, of course, but it sorta fits.  There was a real case where a player had the power lines to his house cut to make it where he could not log on at a critical moment.  Some people think Eve is "Serious Business" and might be a bit unstable about it.

This comment reminded me of Scott Manley's recounting of Eve's "Fountain War"... (23 min)

It’s a series of Fantasy novels by Brandon Sanderson

I'm in Chapter 53 or so of Way of Kings.  It was a slow buildup all the way through the book.  Part 1 was OK, Part 2 better, Part 3 things got interesting.  I am getting into Part 4 which is awesome.  Sanderson is really putting his main characters through the wringer, though.  I feel sorry for them both.

I feel the same way about Magic -- I went to GenCon every year, and all of a sudden the Dealers' Hall was full of these stupid cards instead of RPGs!  Before you know it the company was buying TSR itself!  Funny, I barely remember seeing any Pokemon, it was all MTG, followed by various knock-offs of every kind.

The Pokemon card  game *was* one of those knockoffs...

I suppose it's only karma.  Avalon Hill was the big name in tabletop wargaming.  Bought by TSR, the big name of tabletop RPGs, bought by Wizards of the Coast, the big name in CCGs, bought by Hasbro.

A conga line of "summon bigger fish" spells...

Ah, so in this case "the World Cup" doesn't refer to the actual game that decides who gets the prize, but to a whole season of games that come before that?  Sort of like referring to the entire baseball winnowing process as "the World Series" instead of just the final deciding competitions.

The terminology that seems to be missing are "playoffs" or "semi-finals".

All joking aside I am being serious. Or are you telling me his betting up bullies, admittedly a stage he moves past, doesn’t feel more batman than superman.

I'm pretty sure Elliot has a rule that says "you don't gang up on people or pick on people weaker than you."  Seems to me He made an exception for himself in defending underdogs even though their attackers were weaker than Elliot himself.  It's arguably a way of venting his anger at seeing people beat up on to begin with.  I would guess that Elliot realized how he himself was breaching his own rules and would suggest that's why Elliot stopped bullying bullies.

Elliot also had a powerup move from the early days that vented his inner anger, making him stronger but loosing control.  This move has been retconned out.  The move is gone but the inner anger very likely isn't.  Which would suggest Elliot as someone who is lawful as a way of keeping his inner demons in check.

Because using spreadsheets in any other MMO would be overkill while spreadsheets in Eve is just barely scratching the surface? ;)

When City of Heroes introduced its Incarnate Powers system, I needed a spreadsheet for each character I was taking through the system to track what powers I wanted for each character and what Incarnate Salvage they needed to progress.

Playing Guild Wars 2, I tried using spreadsheets to track what I needed to craft useful (consistently sellable) items, but that didn't work out well.

Admittedly spreasheets weren't where life begins with either game, but...

After about 2 weeks of running missions and doing as much as I could with my Vexor cruiser, I broke 100,000,000 isk this morning.

Today, having noticed that one of the frequent chat persons in my NPC corp had made a lot of isk (think gold, for normal games) by running down combat sites and looting them after wards, I did the same thing today.  Broke 200,000,000 in about 5 hours.

Missions, at least low level ones, in Eve are for chumps it seems.

Why should Eve be different from any other MMO?

What about a roaring tornado then? It has an eye, right. So eyes roar, too.

Mind you, blizzards don't roar, they howl. So I guess howling is OK when you don't have a mouth. "I have no mouth and I must scream..."

That blizzard stuff sounds like a snowjob to me....

Isn't the internet amazing?  Ask almost any question, and someone out there will know the answer.

(I say "almost" any because I still haven't found out what the first generation continuation of "Now you know...." is, the second being "...the rest of the story!" and the third being "...and knowing is half the battle!")

"Now you know....the rest of the story.  I'm Paul Harvey...Good Day."

"The Rest of the Story" was a short 15-20 min syndicated radio show where Paul Harvey expanded on, well, "the rest of the story" of some thing or other.
