I would say another big part was named Robert McNamara. I don't know, he might have been a good businessman. But a military genius he wasn't. What possessed the man to draft mentally retarded young men and thrust them into a war they were incapable of understanding, much less fighting?

Before Hegseth I  would have placed him the worst SecDef the US has had.  Now he's 2nd.  3rd is  Rumsfeld

  2. My hot water tank shorted out.  I pulled the breaker on it, and they will be out in the morning to fix it.  I'm just glad I was awake when it did; otherwise, it might have started a fire.  I got a call back from the maintenance people, and they said that someone would be in contact “as soon as possible” in the morning.  Joy.

  3. My headache went away, so I didn't take another does when the timer went off.  Then it came back, stronger than ever.  And I've started coughing up crap.  Almost bad enough to go to the clinic, but I think I'll wait and see if I'm doing it in the morning.  It opens at 7

  4. I've got a correction to make.   41 aircraft, about 33%  I misread the Kyiv Independent.

I amend that slightly. The guys that track results for the Ukrainian military have incentive to be accurate. The guys who tell the rest of the world the results, only have incentive to not be caught lying. (The easy way to achieve that, of course, is for them to also be accurate.)

The Kyiv Independent is not, as its name would indicate, a government publication.  It's mainly crowdfunded.

  5. Acetaminophen by itself or with caffeine lasts about 3 hours. Takes about 30 minutes to kick in. It can only be taken every 6 hours or your liver will hate you and have issues. I took some this morning when I got up. It's faded and the sort of mild headache has returned. It's not a migraine, so imitrex isn't going to help. I have 2 hours and roughly 25 minutes before I can take another dose. I'm going to take Aspirin with Caffeine and Acetaminophen this time. That lasts about 4 and a half / 5 hours and only takes about 15 minutes to kick in. Until it does, I'm staying in the dark(er) room.

Seems like Putin just had a bad day. An Ukrainian surprise drone attack just smashed a lot of Russian strategic bombing planes, reducing their strategic bombing capacity by 25% or possibly as much as 33%. It seems they have also destroyed the Russian equivalent of an AWACS.

An AWACS is cheap, fast and easy to replace, right?

41% according to Kyiv Independent. Take that as source, but they are normally right about that sort of thing.

And Russia is down to 2 or 3 R-50, not enough to keep one constantly in the sky over even part of the battlefield. This is going to lead to more Air to mud attacks by Ukrainian F-16.

The poms on the shoes and tassels on the legs definitely look like they would be impractical for real combat.

The pom-poms are what make them so absurd.  The weird thing about them, is those are, in fact, some of the elite members of the Greek army. Unlike the America “Old Guard” which is a ceremonial only unit, these guys, when not on public guard duty, are part of a rapid reaction infantry unit.  Getting a posting there is considered like being a Ranger in the US Army, challenging to get and respected throughout the army.

  9. “The Human is out of bed, the sun is shining.  The house isn't too hot or too cold, even if The Human says the air has almost all the water it can hold, which makes it feel damp.  Still going to be a good day, I can feel it!” - Explorer the Cat.

  10. “The weather if very icky and the air is heavier than normal. The Human says that this should pass by afternoon, and he will get up then. I'll hang out with him until he gets up. He's not a happy kitten right now. At least no my-grains today.” - Explorer the Cat.
