Not counting the colon bit, I'm not sure what "as a full colonel" signifies.

There are two ranks called "colonel" in the US Army, Air Force and USMC.  Lieutenant Colonel (Grade O-5) and Colonel (grade O-6).   When some one wants to make sure that you know they mean an O-6 type colonel the phrase "full colonel" is used.

I said he could buy one. I said nothing about rolling.

Buying a vowel.   OK, fine.  A is 10 and E is 14, we know that, but depending on if you are using iHex1 or base 36 I either has no value (iHex) or is 18, while O is either no value (iHex) or 24 (Base 36)

1The Traveller system, where eye (i) and oh (o) are not used to not confuse with one (1) and zero (0).

The hard part of rolling a round die is getting it to stop and determining which number is up.

Real world d100 (one die, not a pair of d10) have that problem.  Enough so that most people don't use them, assuming they even know they exists.

Let's get this thread started again, as it's an important thing to have in any forum. I'll toss out the first question.

Have any of you ever had a system that has problems restarting? My laptop, without fail, will present me with a dark screen on a restart from an active session. However, if I give it enough time to get set up and then just touch the power button (don't hold it for 5 seconds), it will restart normally. WTF would cause this? I have the latest drivers for everything.

Sounds like it's trying to clean up the scratch file while it's creating a scratch file.  I could be wrong however.    It's also possible that it's running chkdsk or system version of same.

If it's windows, try setting up you own virtual memory files, instead of letting Windows deal with it.

But we were never given any sort of sense of how big a liter is - there were no liter containers anywhere around us.

There were plenty if you took a second year of chemistry in high school. We were surrounded by the things. I had hands-on experience as a lab assistant. ;)

My school had liter jars and kilogram weights, plus meter sticks etc.

Only extreme stubbornness on part of the mathematically literate population blocked it from being signed into law.

And the fact that the other house didn't pass it and the Governor would not sign.  Takes 2 houses and a governor/president to get a law passed.

However, most politicians are able to compute how big bribe they should get just fine, even if it needs to be divided between multiple people.)

"Don't put bribe on your expense account, it's a "Customs expediting fee"
