  1. Story Monday April 16, 2018

Whatever's going on, we haven't gotten back to Ashley's nine-E "EEEEEEEEEEK!" So, scary/hideous but only 75% as scary/hideous as Sirleck.
  2. Story Monday April 16, 2018

Hmmm. Guess those shards did still have some magic. But it's just going to evaporate, right? The action in Panels 3, 4, and 5 repeat the action in Panels 3, 4, and 5 of this comic from new points of view--or camera angles if you're thinking storyboards. It's the Thwoo-Thwump-oosh link in Dan's commentary. As for the snide comments about crows having only weak alcohol
  3. This Day In History

    And testicles to match.
  4. This Day In History

I agree with your statement, but HMHS Britannic was serving as a hospital ship; she had no arms or munitions. It's not settled whether she was sunk by a mine or a torpedo. If the culprit was a mine, both sides in the war were using mines, and it is possible the mine may not even have been from the same war since the Ottoman, Italian, and Greek navies were all fighting in the Aegean Sea in 1912.
  5. This Day In History

April 14, 1931 - realizing that France is already two republics ahead, Spain proclaims its Second Republic.
  6. Things You Only Noticed On Reread

Living in the Land of Moosehead, I'm guessing you have had little experience direct experience with things in the Great Dumb South, including the liquor laws. There isn't anyplace closer to Chicago than Ontario where a 19-year-old can buy booze legally. You're right that Rhea didn't specifically tell Diane she couldn't drink before 11:50 or even that it would be all right to drink at all--but it it would be illegal for anyone at that party under 21 to drink. There's talk in Illinois about allowing drinking under parental consent for 18-year-olds, but only talk so far, and Dan wrote about that party back in 2013. It just struck me as peculiar that no one in that story mentioned anything about the legal drinking age, even Mama Kitsune talking to Nanase about drinking.
  7. Things You Only Noticed On Reread

It's a little late for me to be noticing this, but one of Dan's big premises for the New Year's Eve Party in Family Ties is Diane's sister Rhea not letting her drink until ten minutes to midnight when she turns 18. But the minimum drinking age in Illinois has been 21 since 1980, and before that it there was only a seven-year period when the drinking age was lowered to 19.
  8. Story Wednesday April 11, 2018

Magus whole "I'm a better battle mage as a man" thing strikes me as pretty much a rewrite of Tedd's "I'm a better cook as a girl" thing at Grace's birthday party.
  9. Story Friday April 13, 2018

Noooooo. The entire Moperverse is a No Parking or Stopping zone for TARDISs and other time-travel-capable artifacts, including Deloreans and Enterprises. And Tedd is absolutely forbidden to transform anyone into a Scot.
  10. Story Friday April 13, 2018

    Eyebrow fairies.
  11. Story Friday April 13, 2018

A good point there. However, neither one is the record holder; that belongs to the 15E scream by Melissa here and recapitulated here. To be fair, both of Ashley's screams were spontaneous while Melissa needed to take a very deep breath before her scream. Who said "Occam's razor" and when? Are you referring not to a central tenet of medieval Catholic philosophy espoused by William of Ockham but to an actual artifact known as Occam's Razor? (Perhaps it was stored next to Dorothy's shoes in the C.S Lewis wardrobe...)
  12. Story Wednesday April 11, 2018

    Timely rap on my knuckles.
  13. Story Wednesday April 11, 2018

Well, Fridays are supposed to have twists. Kind of like Star Trek TOS, which always tried to put in some kind of cliffhanger before each commercial break. Maybe the twist will be that this comic is actually the last comic in Elliots and Ellens. The whole of this chapter has had just five characters, and bringing in someone new after so long doesn't seem like it would match up very well.
  14. Story Wednesday April 11, 2018

I'm not so surprised. In canon, Susan didn't actually fight with a sword until she killed the first vampire at the mall. I think the only other times Susan summoned a sword in canon were: In Sister when Susan summoned a sword during the second fight with the Goo, but didn't use it.) In Hammerchlorians, during the flashback to what happened in France and again to demonstrate to Sarah and Grace that she doesn't have the same sword. Earlier in Sister III when Susan found out there had been seven different vampires in Moperville. I think it might be worth noting that while Susan has "a couple" of swords, she didn't mention having an axe. Axes are a lot easier to come by than real swords. Why? Maybe because killing her first vampire with an axe has something to do with it.
  15. Story Wednesday April 11, 2018

As Melissa once pointed out, even a compact-car-sized dragon doesn't have wings big enough to fly without magic. Wings might give some kind of agility bonus, especially at speed. As for Nanase's flying/fighting skills, she has had more practice than Elliot at wingless flight, and with her quadruple wings and built-in guardian form skills and powers, I wouldn't bet on Magus beating her in an aerial contest.
  16. Story Wednesday April 11, 2018

The girls would have joined the Bund Deutscher Mädel. And who says there's only one Nazi universe? GURPS had six official ones the last time I checked.
  17. Story Wednesday April 11, 2018

Now that message to Elliot about from the anonymous person (probably really Sam) about wanting to change genders seems more relevant. However, this really isn't the best time for a long discussion about implications.
  18. Story Monday April 9, 2018

Scrappy Doo would be the one puppy Good Tom should NOT save!
  19. Story Monday April 9, 2018

Or maybe I'm suggesting that all-knowing Magus doesn't have any idea of how to get home.
  20. Story Monday April 9, 2018

Ah, yes, Magus needs to find a way home. Well, in canon, there's only one character who's actually traveled between universes: Nioi. Lady Andrea and Dame Tara know about other universes, but they've only proven they can travel to the "other side" of Earth. Beta Tedd managed to contact Grace from another universe, but that doesn't prove he could travel there. Lord Tedd was able to send a goo cell to the Moperverse, but that doesn't mean he could have sent himself or anyone else. Does Lord Tedd even know that Nioi went to the Moperverse? Anyway, while Nioi thinks Lord Tedd is kind of nice deep down (maybe really deep down, since that was Goo Cell #12, which kind of implies he's killed eleven other Tedds), it might not be the wisest decision to seek either Nioi's or Lord Tedd's help. Although considering that Magus got Sirleck to help... Maybe looking for ruby or silver slippers, or an old wardrobe, or a magic mirror, or a blue police box, or a D-stick, or Aahz...
  21. Story Monday April 9, 2018

Yes, it looks cool. Whether or not it Magus could handle one of Nanase's fairy punches--or one of her normal punches--or one of Ellen's zaps may be quite a different matter. It might be good to remember that Magus was using that potion to restore his energy in order to resist one of Terra's zaps, and that was just a sparring match. And for some reason I'm thinking of a song from Mulan right now...
  22. Story Monday April 9, 2018

I think what Dan is trying to show in Panel three is that Elliot is punching right-left-right-left and Magus is dodging punches by swaying left-right-left-right. What would be better here is animation... and, of course, the Benny Hill version of Yakety Sax. On the other hand, stopping a punch by actually palming the fist is a move that looks awesomely cool.
  23. Story Friday April 6, 2018

Not all of us have seen every satirical pamphlet from WWI. Anyway, a woman's place was often in shell-filling plants. Their skin turned yellow from the toxic effects of TNT, so they were called "canaries."
  24. Story Friday April 6, 2018

@The Old Hack: A true Yamato nadashiko. Bras aren't supposed to be worn under yukatas.
  25. Story Friday April 6, 2018

Of course. So far, Elliot is the only Ell born male. Had to bust out sometime. As for the combat advantages of large mammaries, the answer should be obvious to anyone who has observed the ass-kicking talents of Sailor Jupiter.
