  1. Getting back to Ashley, who I think began as the subject of this thread, how soon before she turns into a guy? Or possibly a cat? Or a catgirl (possibly with four breasts)? And, please, don't answer "After she meets Tedd" because that goes without saying.

I have one that doesn't have touch capability in the upper half of the screen anymore.

Your lack of faith is disturbing. The Steve has set down as one of His Commandments: Thou Shalt Buy The Latest Version. Art thou surprised that one of His iPads is reminding you to tithe once more?

She can alter her appearance however she want. Why SHOULDN'T she have hot legs? Or any other parts of body.

Yes, she can alter her. Which none of the other immortals we've seen doing. Can they? All the other shapechangers are either Our Heros or the vampire Susan killed. That could support that the shapechangers are actually more powerful than the Immortals, except for Pandora, at least on the material plane of the Moperverse.

But getting back on subject, since Pandora can look like anything, I really appreciate her choice of legs and other parts and would like to see...

    Just thinkin' about baseball.

The "convention" lasted few minutes top and the immortals were barely doing anything.

Hmm. Doesn't that actually support my hypothesis? That they weren't able to do much, even remain visible for more than a few minutes?

It's all up to The Shive, of course.

Helena and Demetrius may be good example in EGS

Helen and Demetrius might be siblings. If they are, they have parents, which raises the question, who? It's never been said that Adrian is Pandora's only child.

The Shive has only shown us five Immortals so far; Helen and Demetrius are the only ones who've been shown working and apparently living together. From what Jerry said, it seems Immortals usually avoid one another. Why would they do that? Well, if Immortals are magic-dependent, they might need ambient magical energy just to exist, or at least to function at "full power." Perhaps the "convention" at the Mall was made possible by that pesky magic clog.

To be fair, in Methuselah's Children one of the main reasons Lazarus Long started to feel worn down by his centuries wasn't because he had gotten bored with life but because of the constant and repeated injury of outliving the people he loved.

Okay, for those of you on this forum who are asking themselves "Methuselah's Children? Lazarus Long?", The Old Hack is referring to a work and a character created by Robert Heinlein. Lazarus Long is pretty clearly an alter-ego of Heinlein, who may have felt he'd outlived his own time when he created the character.

  7. So we get another indication that as crazy as she is, Pandora is still making efforts to stay within Immortal law. Which does mesh with her number-one commitment: Protecting her family. Obviously she's taught Adrian a lot about Immortal law.

Fitting in with the more-or-less official EGS timeline, Halloween would fall on a Thursday. If this is "the week before Halloween", it could anywhere in the week preceding the week Halloween falls in. I'd guess it's no earlier than the Friday before, at the beginning of the weekend when the most serious Halloween shoppers will be out and about, blabbing about their plans, giving Pandora good opportunities to eavesdrop.

Okay, here's what possibilities I see coming after this latest three panels:

    • If Pandora does go trick-or-treating, maybe she'll meet up with Akiko, who's well within the age-range for trick-or-treating.
    • Any Halloween shop Pandora visits may resemble an OfficeMax in Naperville IL because that "Offic" looks like it's using the same font their logo uses.
    • Besides real vampires mixing in with all the fake ones, Halloween sounds like an ideal time for the "Haunted Locker Room" prank that led to Nanase and Ellen getting invited to Rhea's New Year's Eve party.
    • I wonder if Grace went trick-or-treating. After all, she can morph, and it's another experience she missed out on.
    • On a related note, Halloween would be a pretty good time for Hedge, Guineas, and Vladia to visit Grace; they wouldn't stand out so much.
    • I'm sure all of us would like to find out how and maybe why Pandora marked Luke and whoever Luke was talking to on his phone.

he Emissary is trying to warn Grace about a huge devastating magic change, and Pandora is trying to start the apocalypse.

A reasonable guess about The Emissary's motivation, but wouldn't Pandora be a likely agent of that change? If it is really “Magic Itself” behind this, Pandora is just as likely to be a catspaw as The Emissary/Disco Wizard.

    Grand Godson

I happened to be looking at Sister II again a little before I got my first look at this installment, and I was reminded of the “Grand Godson” mentioned in Squirrel Prophet. What would that mean? It finally occurred to me that Adrian is Tedd's godfather—yet another reason for Adrian to feel guilty for causing the breakup of Tedd's parents.

Isn't it odd that, in fiction, we always assume the exposition given by a character is correct?

It may be an unwarranted assumption, but it's not odd that we assume exposition given by a character is correct. It's because it's such a common device in fiction going back a long, long way. Shakespeare has tons of it, particularly in his historical plays, where there are battles that wouldn't fit into the theater. In radio it can hardly be avoided unless you have an anonymous narrator.

There are exceptions. In a mystery, you can hardly avoid having different stories from different people or it wouldn't be a mystery, would it? But, still, you expect the detective to be telling the truth as he or she sees it.

  10. Actually if I could really use the edit function I would be combining this post with the last two, but when I use it, it whites out the previous text unless I select it. Is it the same for all of you? Some of you? None of you?

Halloween shopping? The only things you shop for for Halloween are costumes, decorations, and candy. Pandora can make way better costumes than anything store-bought, doesn't have a house to decorate, and we've never seen here eating or drinking. And if she really does have a sweet tooth, she'd want to sleep until the day after Halloween, when all the Halloween candy is on sale.

Maybe it's just a way for The Shive to tell us it's near the end of October--which would be about the time Lady Andrea showed up. And maybe the vampires started showing up. Which makes me wonder why Pandora wouldn't notice. Which makes me think Pandora couldn't avoid noticing. Which makes me think Pandora might just have something to do with why Helena and Demetrius got diverted from guarding Elliot in to dealing with the vampiric infestation.

  11. Okay, no Traveller references in this one.

I'm getting a new insight on Pandora from this one: Pandora really would like to reset--but she doesn't because she doesn't want to her love to die. Gives a new meaning to "deadly dull", doesn't it? Maybe it's a stretch from this, but I think Pandora knows she's getting crazier and crazier. Note that she seems to get more focused and sane when something really holds her attention.

Another reason I think Pandora resetting is going to be a future plot point, maybe even by the end of this arc.

I think she would be closest to Aphrodite; at least from the way she acts that's how I feel.

I wouldn't. Despite her threat to use seduction on Elliot, one of the biggest reasons Diane thought Elliot was a very good prospect was that she thought he was unlikely to pressure her into sex. Diane has lots of practice in teasing, but seduction?

Aphrodite/Venus is all for sex and all about sex. She's a fertility goddess. Artemis/Diana and her sister Athena/Minerva are both supposed to be eternal virgins--and man-killers.

  13. What I'm getting out of this exchange so far is that Disco Wizard is really doing is trying to keep Pandora from finding out what he's doing in Grace's mind. Pandora doesn't really want to hurt anyone at this point, but neither is she going to back off without learning what's going on here. It would be nice if we got some idea of what's really going on, and there's promise that we will: The Shive has begun a Canon NP which seems to be dealing with all those magic marks. Again. While some might believe that Squirrel Prophet was mostly about playing (not) Magic the Gathering (Something I've never done, BTW; I'm an extremely old wargamer and RPGer) the most recurrent feature was discovering magic marks--a feature that continued in the canon NP where Pandora visited Sarah.

I kind of think the next twist in the Graceverse will be for Grace to become aware of Pandora, perhaps learning that Pandora is Mr. Raven's mother. And I'm still hoping for Grace to make another Foxy Rhoda.

BTW, remember how Disco Wizard suggested to Grace how she could make the mean teacher harmless? I have two speculations on that: Maybe DW doesn't have enough enough power to do that, even in Grace's dream and even with the backing of "Magic Itself." Also, maybe what DW has really been doing is sleep-teaching Grace in using new powers, such as detecting magic--and perhaps transforming others. Which is exactly what she did in this dream.

Which would make her only the third EGS character who can do that, the others being Tedd (TG gun), Ellen (beam), Tedd again (touch only).

Hey, we have another opportunity for a blast from the past here: Sister's  genesis began with Tedd's plan to get even with Tony by turning him into a girl for a day but zapping Elliot instead, which led to the creation of Ellen. Now Tedd has the ability to transform Tony into a girl if he's touching Tony--or, conversely, if Tony is touching him, say, by grabbing Tedd by the throat after Tedd scores with one of his better Tedd-isms. This would fit wonderfully into Pandora's plan to reveal magic and it would probably surprise her. Of course, we'll have to wait until Monday in Moperverse, which may not get to our universe for another year or two..

  14. First: that is some awesome wake-up-yawning. Just stretching her human arms and squinting her human eyes wasn't enough; she had to form two giant hands and two giant mouths and two giant squinting eyes squeezing out giant sleepy-tears.

Okay, since the file is tagged "Marker-01" I think we can safely assume this is going to feature some magic marking not using a Magic Marker (which is a trademark of the BIC corporation.)

Grace already know Nioi, if Nioi wanted to contact any of them again, she'd be more direct. Also I mentioned in another thread recently that I didn't consider Ellen's second life dreams as actual dreams, but memories of another Ellen being implanted into her mind while she slept.

A very good point, but why do Ellen's Second Life dreams start in a sub-section called Sleepy Time where the rest of the Circle of Eight are also having weird dreams? It seems kind of a big deal to me. Why did The Shive mix in Ellen's first Second Life dream among so many dreams that don't seem to relate to Ellen's?

Okay, the others didn't get nose beeps that we know of.

But... why would Nioi be focused on Grace instead of Ellen? Well, for one thing, Nioi is another squirrel lady, in case you forgot about the tail. Arguably, she might be Grace's counterpart in her home universe, wherever that is.

Grace knows there was something significant about her dreams, else why has she been keeping a notepad by her bed to write down what she remembers about her dreams when she wakes up? Which kind of suggests she's been having those dreams for a long time. That kind of sounds like she's asked Tedd's dad about them. Small detail, but it has to be there for a reason. Doesn't support Nioi as the busybody, but doesn't make it any less likely.

Also, Nioi is the only candidate I can think of who's not likely to be up to no good. The cuteness of the fire goo griffin kind of fits pretty well with Nioi, doesn't it?

Finally (for now), Nioi being from another universe might be another surprise to Pandora (although we have no idea yet whether she plays in other universes.)

  16. Going back to Identity, the first thing that Tedd says upon seeing Ashley is "Who is that girl?" so it seems to be canon that Tedd has never met Ashley before. He doesn't even recall her as the girl who dropped her phone that Elliot picked up. Hmm, I just wrote an ambiguous clause, but Elliot does pick up Ashley, just awhile after picking up her phone. So, no flashback to Tedd meeting Ashley or almost meeting her earlier. I mean, in canon. Unless someone writes a fanfic or something. And The Shive is said to frown on that sort of thing.

But that still leaves Tedd as a pretty good suspect for the AMIGF (Ashley's Mysterious Internet Girl Friend.)

BTW, is there anyone who doesn't get that "The Shive" is a riff on "The Lucas"?
