As I said, this relationship could likely have happened before Tedd was given the TFG to work on.

Yes, and that would mean Tedd would have been no more than fourteen then, as you said. Would any earlier than that be "barely old enough to date" which is what Ashley told Elliot?

    17 hours ago, Scotty said:

Ashley's stated that while she doesn't know exactly where her family originated from, she knew for certain it wasn't Japan, Nanase's family did originate from Japan though.

She asked her parents. Noriko couldn't possibly have changed her name, could she? And she wouldn't lie, would she? Although technically she wouldn't have been lying about herself; if she went to Moperville South with Tedd's dad, she could well be as native-born American as William and Gilliam. And even if Ashley has perfectly ordinary parents, quite a number of Japanese-Americans changed their names back in World War II, such as the late Jack Soo you might remember from Barney Miller and the the original movie version of Throroughly Modern Millie.

Anyway, I wouldn't bet my own money (of which I have extremely little) on Ashley being Tedd's sister or Tedd being the Mysterious Internet Girlfrine (MIGF). But if Tedd was the MIGF, I can see a really sweet flashback about Tedd almost meeting Ashley but losing his nerve or deciding it's a bad idea or both. Or maybe he actually did meet Ashley when he was in girl-mode, but never identified himself as the MIGF.

Disco Wizard being Voltaire? Doubt it. Everything Voltaire has done seems focused on Elliot, he tried to get Tara to kill Elliot, that failed, now he's trying to mess with Magus's plan by manipulating Sirleck, yeah he's gone and thrown Adrian into the mix which would likely pull Pandora's attention towards the matter but I think it's still a separate thread from what Pandora's trying to do with Grace.

If Voltaire is an Immortal, his motives could be anything. What, he's not an Immortal? But he said he was an Immortal. He wouldn't be lying about that, would he? And he couldn't be deluded about being an Immortal, like Damien, could he?

Disco Wizard said he couldn't really remember what he did in the dreams he shared with Grace. Unless that's a flat-out lie, it means that Disco Wizard isn't an Immortal, he's the catspaw of someone else, Magic itself, or someone or something that's lying to him.

    7 minutes ago, Schmorgluck said:

He's been picked by Magic itself to send a message to Grace through her dreams.

Or he's been picked by someone or something presenting him/her/itself as "Magic itself." And DW doesn't say he was picked directly; he said on behalf of.

Does anyone remember the very strange dream Grace had soon after defeating Damien? I don't have any idea how or if it could tie in to this, but maybe we'll be seeing some horned skulls soon.

Or maybe Grace will turn dream-Pandora into a foxy Rhoda.

  3. Perhaps I'm channeling Ashley again, but so many questions.

    • Is the Disco Wizard lying? (If he is, I think we can all guess his true identity.)
    • Is Grace going to catch on to this and get into the fray?
    • Is Disco Wizard crazy? Threatening PandoraNo one in the Moperverse has been shown to be more powerful than Pandora.
    • Is Disco Wizard's plan to manipulate Grace into attacking Pandora? Grace is so powerful she even scares Pandora's son.
    • Is it really an Immortal rule not to intrude into mortal dreams? Seems to me that would fall well within the "empower and guide" limits.

Ashley's been in Moperville long enough to form a close friendship with Liz and to have gone to the movies with her the previous summer.

I forgot that. Shame on me. But Ashley could still have just met Liz that summer. Or maybe Liz used to live in California and was friends Ash, and, like Ashley, had to move to Moperville with her family, only the move came earlier. And if The Shive needs this kludge to retcon Ashley and Liz's backstory, He can have it free, gratis, and without acknowledging I may have thought of it first.

    5 hours ago, Scotty said:

Dan claims that he knows who this person is

When and where did The Shive claim this? I'm not disputing it, I just want to know, and I haven't saved all of The Shive's commentaries yet so I can search them.

Tedd being Ashley's ex-girlfriend is an interesting concept, but given how dorky Tedd was before Grace (and Sarah, and Susan) started taking off his rougher edges, I have trouble buying it. Tedd wouldn't have done anything like that after meeting Grace.

    However...

Tedd already could change anyone's sex before he met Grace. Now, with that in mind, wouldn't he have at least considered meeting Ashley as a girl? Too bad it's already canon that Ashley never met her internet girlfriend; it could have made for a great flashback sequence.

  5. I just posted a brainstorm about Ashley in the Moar thread which inspired me to start a thread about All Things Ashley (which would have made a better title, but too late now. My brainstorm was that the magnifiying glass mark at the end of the first part of Squirrel Prophet just might be Ashley's. Which leads to the larger question: Does Ashley have any magic talent(s)? Which leads on ultimately to the question of questions: Why Ashley?

Some of my thoughts follow. You may want some coffee or other caffeinated beverage to stay awake.

Ashley Is Lois Lane to Sarah's Lana Lang

Since Elliot himself isn't really up on the whole Superman mythos, I'll explain that Lana Lang is Superboy's first girlfriend, the one he leaves behind in Smallville when he graduates, goes to Metropolis, and becomes Superman. If you don't know who Lois Lane is, shame on you.

I wouldn't put my money on this one, yet.

    Ashley Is the Transitional Girl

That is, the girl you date right after a breakup, before you move on to your next serious relationship. In the real world, this would be very plausible. In the Moperverse, maybe less so. The Shive has stated He had wanted to introduce Ashley for a long time before she actually showed up. That's a lot of work for a throwaway character. And Elliot being Elliot, he'll feel obligated to stick with her until he's absolutely sure it's better for everyone to break up. Plus, that's kind of repeating the same thing that happened with Sarah just before Ashley. Now while repeats like that are all too common in realworld, I for one would be disappointed if it happened here, and I might not be alone.

    Ashley Is Doomed

One way to remove Ashley is to kill her off. This seems pretty harsh for EGS, but real death has been an occasional visitor to the Mopervers: Damien, Noah's parents, and, most recently, Adrian's dad. This is a trope that gets used quite a lot in the superhero genre and notoriously in long-running series, usually when an actor quits or an actor. It is also a feature of coming-of-age stories, and what is EGS but a teenage soap opera with weird stuff thrown in?

Once again, I wouldn't put my money on it. The Shive was broken up by Daddy Raven's death. Despite the opportunities for some awesome reactions by the rest of the gang to Ashley's death, I don't think it will really happen. Well, I hope not.

    Ashley Is Tedd's Sister

Now this one is edging into ASB territory (ASB=Alien Space Bats). But Ashley, like Tedd, is Asian or part-Asian; we haven't seen her parents; and she just might have exhibited some Tedd-like insights. Also she's obsessed with transformations, tends to go on and on about things once she gets rolling, gets into her zone and blocks out everthing else (Ashley at the bookstore; Tedd doing almost anything in the basement.)

Of course, this would seem to mean that Ashley and Tedd are twins. Or does it? We don't know exactly how old Ashley is, and we don't know when Tedd's mom took off. The only time in the entire canon so far that we have seen Tedd and his mom together was when Tedd was such a small baby he probably couldn't stand up yet. Ashley could be only a year younger than Tedd, so it would be plausible they could both be seniors in the same high school. As for why they wouldn't have noticed each other, we do know that Ashley is from California. When did she move to Moperville? Ashley's first appearance in story-time comes after Family Ties, so it's the new year and the spring semester. Ashley could have been at Moperville North for only a few days before she hooked up with Elliot. Another point: Ashley seems surprised that it's going to be very cold somewhere near Chicago in January. Kind of like she still hasn't shaken California out of her head yet, no?

Of course, Ashley isn't one of the three sisters on the title page of Sister III. And Tedd's mom is in Europe, right? Right? Not perchance in Moperville working up to finally seeing her son again face-to-face?

    Ashley Is From Another Universe

Nothing at all to support this yet, but Ashley could indeed have come from California--just not the same California as the one in Elliot's universe. Ashley could be completely unaware of this. Her parents could be unaware of this; maybe they made a wrong turn Albuquerque.

    Ashley Is Another Catspaw

Someone posited that Ashley is really Pandora on this forum. I'm not sure how serious they were. Anyway, while Pandora could make herself look and sound like Ashley (and Voltaire could at least mimic her voice), we've gotten a lot of Ashley's thoughts from the very first. Ashley is a real person in her own right. Which is not to say she's not being used by someone else. Maybe more than one someone. What could be a motivation for a manipulator like Pandora or Voltaire to bring Ashley together with Elliot?

Pandora might have maneuvered them together for her own amusement, or for deeper reasons. Pandora says in Squirrel Prophet that Tedd is her great godson. Maybe Pandora is afraid Grace will fall for Elliot too and thus hurt Tedd, so Pandora makes sure Elliot gets another girlfriend right after the breakup with Sarah. But who knows with Pandora?

Voltaire might have put them together to set up the incident happened at the mall. If he tried to keep Ashley from intervening once the griffin appeared, it would make him somewhat less evil. Or maybe he was just adding some more spice to his game. I rather think Voltaire is as crazy or crazier than Pandora. That "better world" Voltaire spoke of to The Detective may just mean better for Voltaire.

The Government might have arranged to put Ashley in Moperville as part of a secret policy of concentrating people with detected superpowers, even dormant ones, where they can be more easily monitored.

    ----

Okay, enough to get this started. Let's have some more musings about Ashley. There are still many unanswered questions, such as why the heck won't her parents tell her where in Asia they come from? I mean, they would really know, wouldn't they? They wouldn't be anything like North Korean sleeper agents, would they?

it would be rather normal and non-meaningful for her to wear a green shirt in her dream.

Yup, but the background to the magnifying glass is still green. We'll never really know unless and until The Shive makes it plain. And those pesky midichlorians or Alien Space Bats could change His mind.

I too thought it must be Luke's mark because it fits his power and sort of fits his green hair. But it would also fit Grace's ability, wouldn't it? Grace starts out dreaming that she's wearing a green shirt before her clothes vanish, wakes up in a green shirt, wears another green shirt to school, and wears yet another green shirt to work that night, under that black shirt or pullover or whatever. Since The Shive cares a lot about color when He uses it and has said so kind of a lot, this could be yet another subtle clue.

    Unless it isn't.

There are at least two other green shirt wearers depicted in Squirrel Prophet. In the two flashback panels where Grace remembers that Sam is really a girl, Sam is wearing a green shirt with pockets all over instead of a blue shirt with pockets all over. And in yet another flashback, Ashley is wearing a green shirt under her mostly black outfit, a colored version of the one she's wearing when she caught Elliot transforming. It's a stretch, but Ashley comes up with some pretty timely insights in the next arc.

This statement really bothers me, suggesting that living without much money for nice things made Diane learn to manipulate men into buying her stuff.

Maybe The Shive is retconning Diane, but He showed us Diane saying that in her very first speaking appearance, and when she was talking with Rhoda about her ideal man much more recently. If she's getting boys to buy things that she can well afford herself, it seems to me it would make her a worse person than leading boys on a bit to get what she can't afford.

  9. 1 hour ago, Scotty said:

she may have felt like she didn't get much attention growing up, which would have lead to her taking interest in how other girls got the attention of guys.

Good point. Rick isn't positively identified as a sibling, but it would explain why Rhea hangs with him in spite of the probablility that Rick's significant other is Elijah. It would also explain why Rick gets the pass that Diane hasn't seemed to give Justin as yet.

If Rick isn't Diana's (adopted) sibling and she has an unrequited crush on him, it could explain the real reason she's so upset with Justin. Or maybe she's had a crush on him, too, which would be extra hurtful after failing to attract Rick.

  10. I'm assuming, given the title and their prominent (though not foremost) positions on the cover page of Sister III, The Shive will cast some light upon the questions I'm about to bring up.

Why Are There So Many Differences Between Susan and Diane?

    The short answer: Different upbringings.

    • Diane was raised with an older sibling to compete with; Susan wasn't.

    • Susan has become embarrassed by how much her mother spoiled her. Diane might have been spoiled to some extent, but her desire to get men to spend money on her doesn't bespeak being raised in a mansion.

However, we have no clue about the Diane's adoptive parents other than they don't seem to be as well off as Susan's mom. Are they a mixed couple? Are they together?

That last one is really relevant. Susan and Diane have different approaches to handling men, but the underlying attitude is fear of getting hurt. Susan tries to avoid men; Diane tries to control them. Now neither of these suggests a strong, reliable father figure. Diane just wouldn't have this attitude if she was satisfied with the father figure she grew up with.

Well, I'm interested in this, but I'll move on to something I think more of you might be interested in.

Who Are Susan and Diane's Biological Parents?

The Shive has put in a few clues, or maybe red herrings, that might lead to answers. Sometime. Maybe.

First, in a dream and then a flashback, Susan remembers the woman she found with her father. In the flashback, The Shive actually titles the strip The Woman With Susan's Face. Susan tries to cut off her hair and then her mom dyes it so she won't look like that horrid blond woman. This kind of implies that Susan realized the woman was her birth mother. She hasn't said a thing about it in any strip since, but that is quite consistent in her nature. As of now (7-22-2016 in realworld time), we still don't know if Susan knows or even suspects she was adopted.

I hope we don't get adoptichlorians.

Susan's dad? Well, her adoptive dad's face is never shown—it's actually blacked out. Now if adoptive daddy was seeing birth mommy, it's not really a stretch to think that adoptive daddy is also biological daddy.

    Except...

Diane wasn't introduced yet. If Susan's dad arranged the adoption of one of his own kids, why not both?

    The Raven Factor

In Death Sentence, Grace notices that the disguise spell Adrian Raven uses to hide her three-tailed form makes her look exactly like Susan. Although Raven tells her half-immortals can't have children, he doesn't say that he doesn't have children. The Shive is very cute about maybe denying that this is more than an amusing coincidence in His commentary. What's your call? Remember, by this time we know that Raven can morph to change his appearance. It would have been a necessity to have maintained the same identity as a (somewhat) normal human for as long as he's been teaching at Moperville South.

Also, why exactly does Raven choose to let Diane off when he finds her AWOL from her class in Sister II? He knows Diane isn't the ditzy valley-girl she's channeling; he tells Ellen and Grace right after Diane is gone—but doesn't call out Diane on her ploy to her face. Not proof he has special feelings for Diane, but it would fit very well if he does.

Also, in the flashback strip with Noriko and baby Tedd, Raven's face is blacked out just about the same way as Susan's dad was. This time it wasn't in Susan's mind, so the connection is spider-silk-thin. Still...

    Third Sister?

I think The Shive likes ambiguous titles and titles that have multiple meanings. Do Susan and Diane have a third sister?

I don't think I would need Alien Space Bats to posit that the third sister is the mysterious sibling of Tedd, whether or not she's Susan and Diane's sibling, and whether or not Adrian Raven is her father. What, surely I'm not the only one that thought that perhaps that's the reason Tedd's parents split up and Tedd's dad hates Adrian Raven? And why Noriko can't face her son? Come on, how many of you out there aren't panting to finally get Full Frontal Noriko?

Another candidate for a third sister would be Ellen's Second Life doppelganger, possibly along with Kaoli. They're supposed to meet eventually; maybe eventually is coming up soon.

Vladia is Grace's sister, and if she's Gregs New Girlfriend, it gives an excuse to get Greg involved more.

Carol Brown is Sarah's sister, and given not one but two Immortal schemers behind the scenes (that we know of) plus Sirleck, it seems pretty likely that Carol will finally get to the scene of the latest weirdness in time to (choose one or more):

    • Find out little sister Sarah knows what's going on

    • Find out little sister Sarah has magic

    • Find out vampires are real in the worst possible way.

    • Get The Government much too interested. Hey, you didn't think Grace's siblings were the only people confined “for their own protection,” did you?

So, anyone want to add their thoughts?

Not that I'm objecting to your attitude because these griffinfants could grow up to be as hellishly dangerous as their dad, but I'm reminded of an almost-forgotten Disney movie from 1981, Dragonslayer, and in particular two scenes. Galen, apprentice of one of the last wizards and would-be dragonslayer, tries to save the king's daughter but finds her dead with a bunch of hatchling dragons eating her corpse. He kills them. And later, in what I think was the greatest scene in the movie, the mother dragon finds them dead. Somehow ILM managed to convey that this maiden-eating monster was mourning.

  12. It's a dream. Even if Greg and the fire goo griffin are creations of the "informer" Pandora is looking for. This is not the real Greg and isn't bound to act like the real Greg.

The real Greg would have made some reference to an anime. Which is kind of an indication that this Greg might be an Informer creation, since Grace knows the real Greg by now and the dream Greg would be expected to act something like what Grace believes Greg would act like.

And the fire goo griffin here isn't real, either. I'm sure real fire goo griffins are usually responsible griffins and reproduce responsibly, although those vulcanized condoms must take quite a lot of the fun out of the process.

  13. I see the "LAST DREAM" bit as one of Pandora's mannerisms. If you look at Pandora in Squirrel Prophet and in the NP arc which takes place immediately afterward, she often says something ominous and then follows up with cuteness. Pandora was actually happy to learn someone was advising Grace in her dreams when she discovered it in Squirrel Prophet, and Pandora knows that the last dream before you wake up is the one you are most likely to remember.

Also, notice that in both Squirrel Prophet and in this installment, Grace has a pad and pencil right next to the smart phone she uses as an alarm. In Squirrel Prophet, when she wakes up, she picks up that pad to record  what she remembers about that dream. Even though she can't (yet), it proves that she's been doing that for some time.

Gee, do you think maybe Dan has been setting up the discovery of the dream adviser for a long time?

Grace isn't the only character who's had things implanted in her dreams. Ellen certainly has. And maybe Elliot. Remember how Elliot had a Super Elliot dream just before he woke up as Cheerleadra? And what were those two dreams he had about Susan and the other girls about?

The other advisor will be whomever Dan decides, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's Nioi, not another Immortal. Doesn't seem like Voltaire's style, and Helen and Demetrius are still re-learning their powers and aren't entirely competent with the ones they have.

  15. Since the last panel shows Pandora changing her attire to have a cark mass of fur or feathers around her shoulders, and the silhouette behind Magus' silhouette, it suggests that Magus is still the catspaw of Pandora. But there's something behind Pandora--something with slitted eyes. Guess who has slitted eyes? Sirleck does. True, he has six of them, but the other ones are more to the side than to the front. I thought those sort of pie-shaped segments could be more eyes, but taking a closer look today, I think they're a couple of Sirleck's fangs. Maybe his wisdom fangs, the furthest back, upper pair,

So if that's a hint at the plot, Pandora is trying to manipulate Pandora. Not exactly a wise strategy, that. Bravely running away sounds a lot better to me. But maybe Sirleck's limpet-like nature is making him hang on to whatever plans he has for Magus.

Or maybe the owner of those slit pupils is someone or something else. Damien and Vlad seem to have slit pupils. But Vlladia doesn't. And even if Damien isn't really dead, using catspaws is totally out of character for him. And probably way beyond his intellectual capacity.

BTW, I kind of think Pandora will reset at the end of this arc. Maybe she could be passed off as Noah's little sister.

Of all the characters we have seen Vladia comes the closest to "new character".  She (vs her "monster form") has only been in two scenes.  The end of painted black and the start of Grace's birthday party.  If it has to be a character we know, that's not Carol Brown, Ace Reporter, Vladia will do.

Note the Carol Brown, Ace Reporter + Greg ship is a joke.  I don't really ship them.  It would be funny however.

I actually wrote a bit of fanfiction where Carol gets laid off along with the rest of the Channel Four staff when the owner decides it's better for him to close the station and write it off as a loss for taxes. Carol decides to go to a bar in the seediest section of Moperville--you know, close to a cigarette store, an abortion clinic, a strip club, an ice cream parlor... Don't bother looking for it. I doubt I'll ever put it up. But I can see Greg and Carol hooking up.

  17. Somewhere (I just can't find it right now) after Family Tree, one of the Gang of Eight announces that Greg has a new girlfriend that he met on New Year's Eve, which is, of course, when Family Tree takes place. I'm going to propose some possibilities. Share your thoughts and any new candidacies, please.

    Pandora

It's already established that Pandora can look like anyone or maybe anything she wants to. She doesn't have to have any reason better than "it might be fun," but better reasons might include that Greg's as much of a good guy and oddball as Blaike, and that being Greg's g/f gives her a stealthy way to blend in with the gang she's invested so much in observing.

    Vladia

Hey, know any other female in EGS that's as tall as Vladia? And since Greg knows Vladia's sister Grace has a weird background and powers, Greg would be a member of the very small group of "men I might date safely." (And also "men who might survive dating me.")

    Susan's (Adoptive) Mom

We have no idea how old Greg is, but we do know high school and maybe college coeds are out of his strike zone. I don't think it's likely at all; what would bring Susan's Mom and Greg together on New Year's Eve? Match.com? But it has massive comedy potential after Susan learns about this new ship.

    Susan's (Biological) Mom

If The Woman With Susan's Face Who Isn't Diane turns up dating Greg, we have the potential for complications which could register on the Richter scale.

The Voice Actress Who Played Lucky Bunny

Could be either the original Japanese seiyuu or the one who did the English dub.

    Noriko, Tedd's Mom

Noriko could have been in Moperville on New Year's Eve. Even if she can't face her ex or her son, she could have come to check up on Tedd and is likely to have ninja as well as magic skills. And it's not entirely out of the question that she voiced Lucky Bunny in both Japanese and English (and probably French too; France has a lot of anime fans.)

  18. I can buy the "Grace's vague memories" theory as plausible, but that would still mean she should have sensed something about Diane's back at the same time she was looking at Rhoda's back, since they were side-by-side and walking away when Grace had her epiphany.

If Diane's mark has been foreshadowed in that eight-mark page at the end of Grace's dream, it could have been either the smoke-screen with the gray background (stealth) or the reversed-color disk with the yellow background. The male-female combination (or Venus and Mars) would be Tedd's--the background suggests the flash that Luke saw and the aura Tedd has when he re-dude-ifies himself.

I've long assumed the magnifying glass on a green background would be Luke's, Luke of the green hair and the ability to check auras (but remember how puzzled he was when he didn't find Justin's mark. Pandora was "kind" enough to explain why he didn't. But... Luke sees Grace with a green aura which is very similar. Could that mark actually be Grace's?

Hmm. Yellow background, blond hair? Diane is sort of a reversed version of Susan, or a photo negative (a term from the dimly remembered days when cameras used actual film which had to be developed and then printed.)

  19. 1 hour ago, Scotty said:

When and where has she done this?

Diane's seen, or at least heard about Nanase's tendency to float around the halls at school, but that's about it, she only guessed that Ellen has magic because of her association with Nanase.

I realize the way I wrote that was ambiguous. Curse you, easy-to-confuse pronoun! What I meant is that Grace was sensing marks at Moperville South on the day before the date at the mall, in Squirrel Prophet. In fact, when Grace sensed Rhoda's, Rhoda was next to Diane.

  20. There seems a pretty good chance Diane will get a magic mark at some point. Possibly she might already have one when we see her next, but since she goes to school with Grace, sees her frequently, and has sensed other magic marks, and did not instinctively use magic when confronted by the spider vampire, such a mark would very probably not have been put on Diane before that encounter on Saturday night.

So what should it be? I favor a crescent moon, a bow-and-arrow, or both. Why? Well, Diane is a form of Diana, the Roman goddess of the moon and the hunt. Artemis is her Greek counterpart, as any classically educated person or any of the much more common Sailor Moon otaku already knows.

It also suggests that while Susan always has the hammers, Diane might have a ranged attack. I find it easier to imagine Diane as a stealthy sniper than another hammer queen.

Here are a few inspirational images:

  21. I kind of think Blaike didn't die of old age but died when Adrian was still a child. This would give Pandora a legitimate reason for delaying her reset--and maybe resetting at around 150 instead of 200 was something she had been doing in her previous incarnations for a reason other than approaching the limit of boredom tolerance.

Also, if Blaike was killed, Pandora would be so angry she wouldn't be likely to be bound by the rules. Maybe she went on a berserker rampage that got her in trouble with so many other immortals she had to remove to the current universe, or at least to the current side (the other side being Dame Tara's and Lady Andrea's).

Speaking of the rules, it's already sort of implied that immortals aren't supposed to have kids with mortals. So maybe when Adrian told Grace half-immortals "cannot" have children he was telling something less than the whole truth.

Wouldn't Granny Pandora be kind of awesome?

    OH.

I uh... must have missed that day's comic because apparently I didn't know how Adrian potentially fits into the mess of family issues surrounding Susan.

Well. At least I knew before the current 'likely to involve resolving the familial arcs for a time' chapter is up!

also, sidenote: anyone else getting I Dream Of Jeanie vibes from Pandora? Girl got seragiglio clothes on, or at least got the Jasmine style tied up hair you see in Korean knockoff action figures of Jasmine anyhow.

Yeah, but it may be more like I Dream of a Jeanie Bottle. There's already been a crossover from EGS to C.D. Rudd's webcomic (#101 and #102, in case you want to check it out.)

Actually, the Ancients/Immortals in EGS sort of fit folklore about the jinn. They're supposed to be invisible most of the time and often are the source of those invisible voices some of us hear from time to time.
