Yeah ... first, change your last name is harder, second, she doesn't have any better.

Yeah, Susan's mom went out of her way to say Susan shouldn't hate her father, although excusing his philandering by telling Susan that men can't help it wasn't exactly the best thing to do. As for her mother's name before marriage, it's "Snoot" in my headcanon. I decided that the biggest house in the most expensive part of Moperville , Snoot Creek, would be the Snoot Mansion

  2. How big is that basement anyway? How is it Susan and Nanase are getting in five panels having what should be a private conversation now? Has one of them gotten a Cone of Silence spell now?

That aside, I see interesting things in the last three panels. First, Devil Nanase's belts (and choker): This is the very first indication that Nanase might have been attracted by Diane before. Second, Nanase seems to call Diane "Sherlock Pompoms" in Panel 5--but that could refer to Susan as easily as Diane, though so far only Diane has been pictured with a deerstalker cap. Third, why wouldn't Diane  use Diane's actual surname? I mean, other than Dan refusing to reveal it or haven't decided on one yet. And finally, why would Susan keep "Pompoms" but reject "Tiffany"? Is "Pompoms" actually Susan's mother's maiden name?

... on the other hand, Ellen is FV5 and yes she was flustered by her ... so, maybe it depends on mood?

The other idea is that Sarah thinks of Ellen as a separate person, not just "FV5!Elliot" and therefore can be attracted to her separately.

Maybe. It's true that just because they look same doesn't mean Sarah would be equally attracted to both.

Maybe Dan has in mind that last-panel Sarah is mad at herself for being attracted to female Elliot when she thinks she's got all that behind her and has moved on to Sam (although Sam doesn't seem to be moving in the same direction, but that's literally another story.)

Or, it's Sarah's uterus talking to her again about all the time she "wasted" dating Elliot.

Or, Sarah is  uncomfortable picturing Elliot really enjoying being female, which doesn't feel right since Sarah has known Elliot as a boy for as far back as she can remember pretty much anything.

Or, Sarah is picturing female Elliot doing "poor tiny helpless sexy me" for the benefit of his new girlfriend and maybe for everyone else, awakening the jealousy she's suppressing.

BTW, I don't believe Sarah has ever been shown witnessing Elliot's pink-haired-Rose-Elliot form or Elliot and Ashley kissing. Keep this in mind for the next comic.

Well, maybe add Justin and Luke cus Sarah apparently likes to fantasize about gay male couples too, which....I wonder if that means she'd be into male/male stuff with herself being transformed, or if she'd just like to watch?

Well, Sarah did ask Jerry if she could have a spell to change herself into a boy, and when Sarah was a boy during Grace's birthday party... it's a possibility...

Remember, Diane discovered the story of her ancestry essentially through an accident

How will Rhea arrange a catastrophe that will publicly reveal a great personal truth about herself?

I think the question here is more like "How will Dan arrange a catastrophe that will publicly reveal the truth about herself." The obvious answer for that one is for Rhea to witness an incident with Diane involving magic, either her own or her magical friends. Maybe a good way to arrange that is to have Rhea grow curious about Diane's changed behavior. As long as Diane isn't telling Lucy what's going on, Lucy's likely to be curious too, and maybe the two could get together for some detective work. One or both could shadow Diane and find Diane visiting Mr. Raven at home, or maybe even to the rendezvous with the griffins coming up in another couple of weeks, Moperville time. Hey, it's a change of pace from "wandering monster shows up."

On the other hand, Diane doesn't want to lose her relationships with Lucy or Rhea, and, after a suitable period of arguing with herself, decides she must tell one or both.

  6. I wonder what would happen if (or maybe "when") Diane's adoptive sister Rhea finds out Diane knows who her biological father is. If EGS were a soap opera (or even more of a soap opera), Rhea searching for her birth parents could be good for several seasons...

So what is the risk/reward return ratio when experimenting with potentially dangerous magic for fun?

I don't know, but Tedd really should by now.

BTW, I meant "Sarah" when I wrote "Susan". Maybe it was a Freudian slip; Susan should have had at least one line (the best one) in this comic.

Yes and no, but I've seen enough of it to know that just watching a movie doesn't give you the full effect of Basic Training.

Full Metal Jacket (A Stanley Kubrick film set in the Vietnam War) does have the best representation of the boot camp experience I've ever seen in a movie. We had three suicide attempts when I went through boot camp. The actor playing the drill instructor was a real U.S. Marine drill instructor.l

I wonder if we'll see Nanase be like "Oh no, I've been seducing my ex boyfriend's girlfriend this whole time!?!"

Possibly after Ellen has a word with Nanase. Also, remember this baseball moment?

There is a philosophy (with which I disagree) held by many that to train a man, you must break him down completely and then build him back up again as you see fit

This party seems designed to force Ashley to maximum awkweirdness and embarrassment at which point she may finally begin to learn, use, and enjoy magic

Been to a boot camp? Or have you seen Full Metal Jacket?

  10. If the click is locking the door or turning off something, I have another possible suspect: Lavender. Maybe she doesn't want Edward to be distracted by shenanigans in Edward's basement... or maybe she wants to give the kids their privacy... or, of course, both.

Aaaaaand still nothing more about that doorknob.

My theory is that the click was a lock locking, and that it represents a magical lock activating. Given the timing of the click, I suspect they'll notice it when they try to unshrink Ashley and find that something is keeping the enchantment from being undone.

Why would anyone lock a door which is not hung in a doorway? If it's an artifact, maybe there's a magical doorway elsewhere. But if it's locked now, it will be unlocked before the end of the party. Kind of a Chekov Shotgun kind of plot device.

Or, maybe the "click" doesn't belong to a lock, but a switch--say, on a microphone hidden inside the doorknob.
