Hmmm ... now, how to add B5 into the mix?

The 60's Lost in Space one, right? Robbie is a classic, too.

I think HK is referencing Babylon 5, sort of the stepbrother of Deep Space 9. Robbie the robot is from Forbidden Planet, which is sort of Star Trek 1956. Leslie Neilson (!) played the captain of the starship Bellerophon. Like the robot in Lost in Space, Robbie had all the best lines.

    'Tis a silly place.

You have your Arthurs mixed up. It was Graham Chapman who said Camelot was silly, whereas it was Richard Harris in the 1967 Camelot. Don't mix up the English drunk with the Irish drunk. And don't forget that it was Harris who played Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter movies, possibly because his granddaughter threatened to never speak to him if he didn't.

Maybe Diane's seen Sword in the Stone as well?

It's also movie with lot of transformations, and list of such movies was likely quite short at that time.

I don't think you're allowed to officially reach ten years old without seeing that movie

Both The Sword in the Stone (which I've never seen) and Camelot (which I have) are based on T.H. White's The Once And Future KIng. It's been over forty years since I've read it, and I don't remember a squirrel story, but I do remember a lot of passages where the wizard Merlyn turns Wart (the young Arthur) into various animals to teach him lessons.

Diane seems more likely to have read the book than seen the cartoon. BTW, the book does have a griffin.

The Goo was slow, loud and menacing. All things you do NOT want an actual assassin to be. I do not think it was meant to actually kill. Rather, it was intended to provoke Tedd into becoming less timid and more aggressive and assertive.

Excellent points. Was our Tedd the actual target? The Goo never attacked Tedd, or even tried to. That would tend to support the "strengthen the other Tedd's" theory.

  5. 37 minutes ago, Scotty said:

It's hard to say because at one point we have a Lord Tedd who's clearly angered by the fact the goo failed it's objective, but then the next time we see Lord Tedd we're questioning how it's possible for him to be like that.

Could be that General Shade Tail is in the background and behind Lord Tedd in the first instance--where Lord Tedd can't see if GST is up to something.  Maybe the General has some power or spell that influences others feelings--like Magus.

Lord Tedd's crusade against "weak" Tedds doesn't make a lot of sense, does it?  We really only have the word of Beta Tedd that that's what Lord Tedd is doing.

That's possible alternative, yes, but personally I would consider more likely Nioi got the universe hopping magic from Tedd. Remember that she used some item to open the gate.

Is that glowing sphere a device, or simply an aspect of Nioi's spell, like Ellen's beams? If Lord Tedd could make magical doors like the one Nioi went through, why would he need to send tiny goo cells? Why not send General Shade Tail; who clearly loves to kill?

We actually know more about the second life universe than about Lord Tedds. At least in terms of "Ellen would definitely mention this". Specifically, she would DEFINITELY mention dragon sirens.

Dragon sirens certainly need mentioning, but the context would be Magus-Ellen. While M-E could crash this party, he doesn't seem to know squat about the how-to's of universe-hopping, including doors to other worlds. His best reason to crash would be to ask for help getting back to his home.

Of course, there is a chance that Terra, who is, after all, an alternate Tedd and therefore almost certainly a mad scientist, has worked out enough how-to''s to come through that door in the next thrilling comic, coming real soon now, looking for her boy/girlfriend.

You believe Kaoli is from the same universe as Magus? Is there an in-comic reason?

Which Kaoli? There are at least two: the Kaoli from the second life universe, and the Kaoli created by the dewitchery diamond of Nioi's universe. Now that I think of it, there isn't any real reason for the real Ellen and Kaoli of the second life universe to meet the Ellen of the Mopervese and the Kaoli  who Nioi accidentally created. It's the accidental Kaoli who shared the second-life dreams of Ellen whom Ellen was promised to meet.

  9. 1 hour ago, Scotty said:

Not from same universe but Ellen suggested Kaoli as someone who'd know how to get Magus to his universe so that's a good enough reason to put them together in an arc.

Dan gave us four reference links in his commentary for that page, and it is one of the final comics in Sister 3. And Dan made Ellen say "overdue for a visit". It's only a mere seventeen months later in our time, so I have some hope Kaoli will be the next surprise guest. Connecting her with the door must rely on speculation, but Kaoli is essentially a variation of Nioi, who made her exit through a magical door in Painted Black. Kaoli could logically have the same kind of magic.

Being another furry like Grace and the slightly more humanoid Braixen from Pokémon (Ashley's favorite form to transform herself into in Marker), and Ellen's childhood-friend-from-another-universe, there are at least three of the nine who should be glad to see her.

That click seems rather ominous. So, is this a magic mirror - or a magic door? Is it responsible for the wand being able to shrink Ashley more than expected, and if not why did it "click" now but not when Diane cast the hair spell?

What I'm expecting is that it's the shrink spell triggered the "click", and that someone is about to come through the door.

This is the big introduction of the "Surprise" guest star that will explain why Dan has been so reluctant to reveal the real title for this story

Since this is Edward's basement, and presumably Edward's spare door, Edward sounds fairly likely to me. Tedd's father may have anticipated something needing his attention at the party.

Or, maybe someone else using the door as a prop to make a flashy entrance from another universe. Perhaps someone Ellen thinks is overdue for a visit?

Tune in Monday, maybe, when Dan's feeling better.

  11. Considering how long Tedd has been studying how the duration of transformations seem to have been subjective before Magic's "minimal" changes, he seems to be unduly surprised that "size" isn't as limited as he assumed it was.

Grace, however, does know that Rhoda did increase the size of that wild boar by far more than the size increase limit imposed by the TG gun and has known more than six months, long before either MV5 and Playing With Dolls.

  12. I'm sure Tedd will want to talk more about the mystery of the unexpected size change, but let's get back to that darned doorknob and the door it's part of. Gee, think this door hanging out in the basement of a wizard's home might be some kind of magical artifact?

What does mind reading have to do with this?

In Marker, Pandora said that she could give Ashley a spell to magically share feelings. That suggests that Ashley does have the potential to access other minds. Maybe Ashley is the one who should be wearing the Counsellor Troi uniform. Ashley already has an overabundance of empathy; it wouldn't be such a stretch to give that empathy magical amplification.

She will not settle down and learn what she can do with magic if she keeps indulging in fantasies of what she might do with magic, or what others might do to her

I disagree. Dan has given us multiple examples of how what a spellcaster pictures in their mind can affect the result of the spell. Or, in other words, fantasizing. The very first comic in this arc featured Ashley having a fantasy about casting transformation spells, and feeling guilty about the fantasy. And that was foreshadowed way back in Marker; it was the reason Pandora held back on giving Ashley a transformation spell. I say "held back" because Pandora revealed earlier she was not as restricted as most Immortals were in choosing spells to grant to mortals. I'd say the basic theme of Title Pending is "Ashley learns how to deal with her fantasies."

Speaking of fantasizing, let's hope Sarah isn't slacking off. Remember the clog? Pandora said she wasn't going to see her son until "Saturday" the last time she talked to Sarah. Then with all the big bites Sarah had been taking out of ambient magic would have made it safe enough for Adrian to take down the "dam". But Pandora didn't see her son on Saturday because she reset that Friday evening. Since then, we haven't seen Sarah using her spell--but she hasn't given any indication she's lost the ability to use it or that it's become harder. So the dam seems to still be in place. Could be that Pandora held off showing Adrian how to take down the dam until she was sure it would be safe--but, vampires!

Having the dam clogging things up could be plot-convenient. Ashley is probably even weaker than Sarah for magical power now, so the higher level of ambient magic around Moperville looks pretty much a prerequisite for her training. And the higher ambient magic will continue to draw monsters and aberrations like a bug-zapper, providing work for the best monster hunters around the world...

I find it odd that Dan comments about dolly Ashley being similar to original Barbie when the pose she is in would have been impossible for original Barbie to make. Those original dolls had very low range of motion.

Diane actually liked being called "Barbie" when she was six. Presumably she didn't know then that the Barbie doll is based on a German doll named Lilli, a high-class call girl in a comic of the 1950s.
