    Err, 'reaction'? *scratches head*

As my argument was that searching for radio signals alone might not be sufficient, this was my entire point, yes. Indeed. Dan went from everyone using land lines to smart phones in the space of less than one in-comic year. That's fast, even for the telephone industry.

I had so much fun with this game. I created involved backstories for my characters. Some of them serious, some less so. It was not uncommon for me to undertake adventures based on motivations similar to your outfit run and your cosmetic surgery patient. I approve wholeheartedly of both; the former reminded me of the time where I -- but I think I'll save these tales for Off Topic.

Also, again, it presupposes that radio will be the go-to method of communication of any sapient species. Humanity has used radio transmissions for only about a century. It remains possible that some technological development will supersede radio as means of communication at some point. Tightly focused directional transmissions of some kind might become possible or desirable. This is not to say that listening for radio is futile, merely that there might be different things to look for as well that we simply have not thought of as yet. The Freefall webcomic posited another possibility to look for. Mind you, personally I am with Winston on that one.

Goes to show what they knew. Middle Kingdom Egypt was so named because it fell in between the times of Old Kingdom and New Kingdom Egypt. Mind you, I doubt they named themselves that. It's hard to see yourself as in the middle of something when from your point of view you are the cutting edge. (Hmm. The Cutting Edge Kingdom. That actually sounds kinda awesome. Maybe something from the times of high adventure when Conan ruled Aquilonia.)
  6. Story Friday April 20, 2018

What, did the Middle Kingdom import interesting times from China back when no-one was looking?
  7. Story Friday April 20, 2018

Oh Lord. I just realised. Kevin is a teacher. He is a teacher from an older system of magic. He can single-handedly revive an entire system of magic that has been dead for centuries. Or maybe single-wandedly.

Different story universe, but yeah, you got it right. People still make astoundingly stupid decisions but at least the worst of them are generally confined to the NPCs.

  10. Story Friday April 20, 2018

I just realised. It wasn't a library golem per se. It was returning a book. When the poor thing finds out that it is not only centuries overdue but that it has also lost the book, it is going to have a minor meltdown.

That was the fault of your own mathematicians. They got the stars wrong.
  12. Story Wednesday, Apr 18, 2018

Most logical at our stage of development. Maybe in a century we will be looking for hyper-tachyonic quantum bosons, or something. Or super communications x-ray lasers. Or modulated gravitational pulses. Or smoke signals by waving a blanket above supernovae. Who knows.

It kinda depends what sort of Habitable Zone you are looking for. Life might not be carbon based oxygen breathers everywhere. There has been some quite creative forms of sci fi at times with life very definitely NOT as we know it appearing in all sorts of places, ranging from ice worlds like Pluto through gas giants to the photosphere of the local Sun...
  14. Story Monday April 16, 2018

I loved this spell as well. I'd spam it endlessly. There was this one time where I was really badly hurt after a massive fight and then a monster I'd missed started to come for me and I thought, "Well, I'm toast." Then somewhere in the distance there was a squeak as some creature died from residual charged bolt spam and I leveled up, instantly returning to full health and mana. And then that monster was toast instead. I still resent Blizzard passing my character the idiot ball at the end of the game, though. They could just as well have had some surviving NPC do it, but nooooooo.
  15. NP Wednesday April 18, 2018

I miss City of Heroes. Darnit.
  16. Story Wednesday, Apr 18, 2018

Don't mention von Däniken where @Pharaoh RutinTutin can hear. He doesn't like to be reminded of him.
  17. Story Monday April 16, 2018

Yeah, that ending did not appeal to me, either. Nor did the ending of Diablo 2. After sitting on his arse for the entire game, the Archangel of Dumbasses (or whatever he was archangel of) finally takes action by DESTROYING THE WORLDSTONE. I was sure that wouldn't come back to bite us on the ass in D3. He annoyed me enough in Hell when he made his big speech about it being humanity's hour now and I being the last great hope, and then CHARGED GOLD to revive my henchman whenever the poor sod died. "Yes, I know. The fate of the entire world is at stake. But God has a bottom line set, and I have to meet it."
  18. Story Wednesday, Apr 18, 2018

These artifacts might be from several different systems for all we know. Still, I suppose it is possible.
  19. Story Wednesday, Apr 18, 2018

At least a couple possibilities suggest themselves to me. Either the damage resulted from crushing impact such as a fall and the damage we see is from where it impacted or it was caused by some kind of explosion and primarily damaged the side turned towards the explosion.
  20. Story Wednesday, Apr 18, 2018

Who says it was guarding the library? Maybe this was what they used to retrieve overdue books. If so, boy are there going to be some epic fines being handed out soon.

The Moderator: Ease up on the sarcasm there, please. It can readily come across as at least a bit offensive.
  22. Story Monday April 16, 2018

Also, they knew that the Ark was active and had fried a bunch of Nazis. Really stupid to put it together with a lot of inactive artifacts.
  23. Story Wednesday, Apr 18, 2018

Sorry, only moth bad guy I am currently aware of is Hawk Moth of Miraculous Ladybug (in)fame. Presumably he got so named because just translating 'Papillon' into 'Butterfly' would have sounded a wee bit non-intimidating.
  24. Story Monday April 16, 2018

Works for me. I'll send it gift wrapped to their next assembly. This one is kind of small and cramped. The one in Raiders was HUGE.
  25. Story Monday April 16, 2018

No no, that one got stored in an entirely different warehouse. Anyway, maybe this would be a good time to dig it out, seeing as it is apparently really good at frying Nazis.
