A thought occurs to me, more common here than up north, but you could have termites. Check your foundation, see if you see any clay tube looking risers. Of, if you happen to have a stethoscope, do a little listening yourself.
  2. What Are You Ingesting?

IV8 Caribbean Greens fruit and vegetable medley; it's a sweet drink, not like V8. Not salty, and the label does not mention salt. It is an odd drink, the vegetable overtones are noticeable, unlike some similar concoctions that I've had at juice bars. (There was one in the Philly downtown subway station in the 1990s that kicked butt, a nice quick lunch on the way in to do customer service.) The weirdest thing is the color, a light olive drab. That works well for some foods, olives for instance. In this drink, it is off putting. But the weirdest thing about it is that it is apparently intentional, because several of the last fruit and vegetable ingredients are 'for color'. I should just get a juicer, I could do better.

Andouille is notable for using innards, such as tripe as part of the filling. The chicken ones do not mention pork at all on the label, so <shrug>? There are parts of a chicken you could substitute, but I don't think it would be the same. Chickens don't have a stomach for tripe, the closest analog is the gizzard, which is more of a heart-like muscle. All that said, it's not bad sausage, but if you had it side by side with actual andouille, I think you'd notice which is which. Much like bacon?
  5. What Are You Ingesting?

Saturday's noon meal did not go as I planned. Was going to be rice with shrimp, but I burned the shrimp, left them sitting on the stove too long. So I had rice with fried asparagus tips and another andouille sandwich (since andouille is a pork product, I don't know what makes chicken andouille 'andouille'; I'm guessing spices, which is kind of lame). That was the last of the andouille sausages at least until I go shopping. Drinks were V8 Caribbean Greens fruit and vegetable medley, about an oz of half peppermint schnapps and half Brandy, and some leftover coffee from this morning. The V8 was maybe an 8/10, not bad, not great, maybe healthy. The shot was nice, the brandy cut the overly sweet schnapps nicely.

I did so as well. He was a little younger than I am. One child, Deji, is 18, he should be OK. The other, Lily, is only 6, tough time to loose a dad. His partner, Mami, was not mentioned in his Wiki article, alluding to problems to come. She only has a temporary work Visa for the UK. I don't think cohabiting is a moral problem, at least not until you look at the rest, then it might be seen as irresponsible. It has been variously pointed out that it is a means of the church and state (sometimes nearly the same animal) of controlling you. The flip side is, because you have not complied with this registration process, the state will be varying degrees of reluctant to recognize your relationship. Remember, unempathetic bureaucrats are interpreting the rules. This has manifest as, for instance, a lesbian partner not being allowed into the hospital room of her dying partner 'because she's not family'. So it's allowing avoidable trouble if you can dot the i's and cross the t's, but choose not to. Mami may well face deportation for this choice, and it is possible that GB may choose to farm Lily out rather than let her accompany her mother. Would a country do such a thing? Heh, you've heard what we in the US have done to the children of illegal immigrants, right? Utterly pointless and inhumane, not to mention an unnecessary expense and concern, but "Hey, I'm a bureaucrat, and that's how I interpret the rules". The heavy guns come in when inheritance is on the line. At the very least, the burden of proof that she should inherit is on her. In Dickens's Oliver Twist, Mr. Bumble said, “If the law says that, sir, then the law is an ass.” Once you allow that as a possibility, it should frame the rest of your actions; donkeys are notoriously stubborn. Not of that is helpful at this point. I hope things work out for her.
  7. What Are You Ingesting?

Due to the mandated isolation, I have been making further forays into preparing my own food. One of my new staples is fruit salad. Right now, one apple, diced (I use the term loosely, they are not cubes), six grapes, cut in half, six Sweet 100 tomatoes, cut in half, that is my normal base, since I tend to have those around, one kiwi fruit, diced, one half of a banana, sliced, two dabs of Trader Joe's whole grain Dijon mustard, it's mostly mustard seeds, some liquid, so it's like a paste, and Wishbone Italian dressing. Thumbs up. Lunch was al fresco (don't ask me why their brand name is not capitalized, I didn't come up with it) smoked andouille chicken sausage (oddly, all of those words on the package are in ALL CAPs), split lengthwise and fried, on rye with a slice of Swiss and some horse radish and spicy brown mustard. Also thumbs up; I tend to like food that bites back, so maybe not for everyone.

  9. What Are You Watching?

Grace is a more interesting character than Rocky ever was. He was a kind of bland know it all. In the whole show, he maybe beat out Sherman, Nell, and Dudley's horse. Bullwinkle was the true star, evidenced that much later, it was renamed to be his show. Elliot would be Bullwinkle, even to the personality. Elliot is a bit sharper, but he's not Einstein. (Just read an article, apparently neither was Einstein.) I'd rate Boris second, and either Natasha or Peabody third. But June Foray was amazing. I got curious, so i looked it up. You're just south of St. Petersburg. I have an ex-sister in law that lived in Tampa and Clearwater for a while. Her current husband is from there. I've never been quite as far south as you are.

Wait, who you want to terminate? I was responding to: Say terminate on placard. Terminate means to stop. A placard is a kind of a sign. The acronym for "Say terminate on placard." is STOP. He asked for a sign, he got a stop sign.
  12. What Are You Ingesting?

Wendy's Crispy Chicken Sandwich, no mayo. I had to refill meds, was on the way home. I added a slice of Swiss and some horseradish when I got home. $1.39 with tax.

Thank you for sharing your cat.
  14. What Are You Ingesting?

For my first time ever, I tried cooking fresh asparagus. I fried it, and was not happy with the results, very woody. The insides were tender, though. Turns out, a few of the recipes suggest peeling it ... I have plenty left for further attempts. I have grow asparagus before, but cooking was never an issue. The young shoots are so sweet and tender that they were usually eaten in the garden, especially after my kids figured out that they could, and otherwise got used in salads. Never had any mature.

I've seen that here, too. I believe they are recyclable, and nearly every grocery store in my area has plastic recycling. (Aldi's doesn't, but they don't supply bags, either.)

She is a particularly photogenic kitty. Good eye contact, and she doesn't blink from the flash.

I don't think he's the antagonist, exactly - he is not the evil cult leader. He acts more like the Emissary of Magic acted, intrusive and a bit clueless. Say terminate on placard.

It makes sense, but he had fixed forms initially. Can't he still use them?

  24. Story Monday April 13 2020

It would require some cleverness. Maybe a wax plug or ice plug, something that could hold a vacuum and then melt away. You'd need to drill a port to evacuate the bottom half, either in the plug or in the glass. You could simulate it with a small pine board with a groove to fit the top of a glass, a hole for a column of water, a valve on the column and a port on the board for a vacuum pump. You'd grease the lip of the glass, fit on the board, fit the pipe on top of the board, with the valve near the bottom of the pipe. Suck out the air, cap off the port, then (with due care, and safety glasses and gloves, open the valve. It wouldn't work exactly the same, but it would be close enough.

Well, yeah, probably somewhat more so, as medical resources are diverted. But did you see somewhere that he was in the hospital for something else? I couldn't find yea nor nay.
