I got a phone call from my pain management specialist's office yesterday. Let me back up a bit first. I had a telemedicine appointment with my pain management specialist's office on Monday, while I was in San Antonio. During the call, I complained fiercely about my right shoulder and how badly it hurt. We discussed a pain block. Move forward. The surgical scheduler for his office called yesterday. I'm now scheduled for surgery to have a pain block administered on Tuesday of next week (the 25th). This was quick. Let's hope the pain block works, please O please.

Just got off the phone with my pain management doctor's surgical scheduler. I'm going to have a pain block procedure done to block the receptors affecting my right shoulder. It's going to happen some time on Tuesday of next week (the 25th). Real quick scheduling. We'll see if the surgery does any good. EDIT: Don't know why I put this in this thread. Sorry.

I never did remark on the rehearsal. It went just fine. Lots of fun - it was good to be working with other musicians again. We did several runthroughs, but settled on three major takes. I liked the middle take the best. Sorry, I can't post it yet. The band is going to go into the recording studio next weekend. I might be called upon to do some post-production work. I think they're going to do a sneak preview of the piece at their concert this weekend in San Antonio. No idea how that's going to work out without me cueing up the synth solo file.

My left knee is getting out of control. I've always had trouble walking on the knee replacement - the surgeon wants to insert "shims" to fix the looseness of the hardware - but now I'm having serious trouble getting out of a chair and standing up, not to mention walking afterward. The knee is swollen, especially in the area above the kneecap. I need to go back to the surgeon and, most likely, get the knee drained of the fluid that's built up. I've had this done a couple of times already. They stick a big needle into the joint and pull fluid off of it. It hurts, but there is relief a couple of hours later. We'll see if the surgeon will do this or not.

***The Edema Chronicles for April 19, 2023 Today's weight, taken at around 5:33 a.m., was 328 lbs. I definitely have a problem. It stems from my San Antonio trip. I didn't get to elevate my legs at all during the trip, so they must have retained water. A lot of water. Doctor contact time. NOTE: A subsequent weighing came in at 325. Still bad, but not as bad.

My right shoulder has been flaring up like mad since the beginning of Saturday. I'm near topping out on the 0-to-10 pain scale. To complicate things, there's no place for me to sleep here in the hotel room: the sofa that I thought I'd be able to lean back against is too low, meaning I can't get up from it once I've sat down on it. I've constructed a makeshift pillow fort of sorts on the bed, but it's only marginally acceptable. I'm up in the middle of the night, typing away on this entry as a result. Add one more thing to the fun - I broke off a tooth that was under a crown. Joy. Things are conspiring to fark up this trip, damn it.

And in the end, it wasn't. We got a late start and didn't make it down here in time.

In reality, I'm probably going to be all over the upper half of the city. Our hotel is up by the Airport, while Mrs. Prof's brother lives on the Northwest side of town. Much gasoline will be burned.

The host of the show last night (again, my brother-in-law) was very nice to me in his on-air description of "Pavane," and the entire segment about pavanes in general was quite interesting. I hope you tuned in to hear it. Now, on to the future! I leave for San Antonio at around 11am CDT today so that I can attend tomorrow evening's rehearsal with Nu-metal band Agony. Prior to the rehearsal, we've got a concert to attend with the same brother-in-law tonight. We'll be seeing the San Antonio Philharmonic orchestra, who'll be performing the following pieces: Barber’s Adagio for Strings Mozart Concert Aria “Bella mia fiamma” Barber Knoxville Summer of 1915 Mozart Symphony No. 40 Mrs. Prof and her brother will be going off and doing something tomorrow on their own. Then, just before 5pm, Mrs. Prof will be dropping me off at the rehearsal on the east side of San Antonio. Can you tell I've been overplanning this for weeks now? I'm stoked to finally be around other musicians again. If I get the chance, I'll drop a line to describe the experience while I'm down there. No guarantees.
