  1. Loudmouth's Journey Inside

Dear Lord, please don't let him be a McLaren Honda.
  2. Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)

    * sigh * Unfortunately, no. I still have to eat something. Just had a leftover shrimp sushi roll with my late day pills.
  3. Loudmouth's Journey Inside

Loudmouth's back from the vet. The verdict: a hairball in the small intestines. Mrs. Prof's been given a lubricant for Loudmouth to ingest for the rest of the week. I asked her if it was 10w40. She ignored me.
  4. What Are You Ingesting?

Trying my first cup of jasmine flower herbal tea. Nothing but 1½ tsp. of jasmine flowers, steeped for 7 minutes with 17oz. water just below boiling. First impression: hot flowers. Second impression: more flowers. Third, fourth, and etc. impressions: flowers. While I love jasmine tea, I'm starting to think I need the tea to make the experience complete. Later impressions as the drink cools down: herbal notes. The waxiness from the superhot flowers is diminishing. Note: do not let it backwash up your nose. Later: the jasmine note that I seek from jasmine tea is starting to appear. The only problem is that it's taken half of the entire batch to get to this point. I'm full. Experimentation time. I have a glass of Crystal Light lemon tea next to the jasmine. Let's mix. Not bad. Needs more ice. I'm still full. Thus endeth the lesson.

Voyeurism. Susan has admitted to it. Now she may get a game-driven mild voyeuristic opportunity. Bags of ice on stand-by.
  6. Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)

When you add up all the pills I take every morning, does that count as breakfast? I mean, I do take a cup of coffee with them ...
  7. Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)

I tried that with music, but I kept forgetting to write down the musical ideas that came to me in my dreams.
  8. Loudmouth's Journey Inside

Breakfast time for Loudmouth. We'd given Loudmouth nothing but wet food, and that seemed to make Baker a bit snitty. After Baker made a good dent in his own food, he tried to go in to Loudmouth's room and poach his wet food. I got tired of chasing him away and figured that Loudmouth hadn't done anything wrong, so instead of closing Loudmouth's door, I closed Baker in the master bedroom for a couple of minutes until Loudmouth could finish. It was literally only 2 or 3 minutes, but it pissed Baker off to no end. Sure thing, when I did let him out, first thing he did was make a bee line for Loudmouth's food. You could see him slump like a human's shoulders would slump in disappointment when he realized that all of the gravy from the wet food was gone.
  9. What Are You Ingesting?

Man, I am enjoying the hell out of the tea I bought from that Teavivre place. I'm tearing through the Jasmine Dragon Pearls like there's no tomorrow.
  10. What Are You Ingesting?

With my recent investment in teas in mind, I felt I needed to get a clear teacup so I could see what I was drinking. Easier said than done via Amazon. I dd finally settle on something though: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NBUUH9V/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's 15oz, it's tall, and there's no handle, but it's dishwasher safe (BIG plus) and gets the job done. It can multitask if I want to drink a tall coffee or a small beer (when that comes back). And, it's aesthetically pleasing. I'm happy with it on first use.
  11. Loudmouth's Journey Inside

Looks like Loudmouth will be going to the vet on Monday. Mrs. Prof is taking Monday off from the kennel project on Monday, come hell or high water she says (both current Texas possibilities).
  12. Loudmouth's Journey Inside

Loudmouth barfed again overnight. Woke up Mrs. Prof, he did. Sigh. I told her we've got to get him to a vet, but she's engrossed with the kennel project (which must be finished today). She says she's "thinking about it." I don't know what else it's going to take to get him there.
  13. Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)

10:35 p.m. CDT 20170909. I'm starting to get a bit worried about my memory as related to my hydrocodone intake. As I've said before, I try to run on a 4am/10am/4pm/10pm schedule when I take my doses. Sometimes I wake up about an hour late for my first daily dose. The problem happens on days when Mrs. Prof leaves the house in the morning. For example, I fell asleep after she left this morning to go back to the pet adoption center. She says she called and told me something important, but I have absolutely zero recollection of the call. However, the call is on the call history—10:17 a.m. this morning. Scary. I've told her that, in future situations, she should have me repeat what she says so that it sinks in. Or at least, I hope it'll sink in.
  14. What Are You Ingesting?

Leftover Pizza Hut Quepapas (Tater Tots with a touch of cheese and jalapeño), reheated in the microwave with some butter and then mashed with a container of Pizza Hut's Blue Cheese dip. Not the most nutritious thing, but Mrs. Prof didn't bring anything home after her work on the kennels and the cupboard is kind of bare at the moment.
  15. Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)

Our local Chinese delivery place has - wait for it - Mongolian beef! No breading. Just beef and onions in a plain-jane brown sauce. Good stuff.
  16. What Are You Watching?

The latest tracks are showing a path more toward the Gulf side of Florida. I don't know if this is a good thing or bad thing for the Miami area. They'll miss the direct hit, but they'll get the northeast quadrant winds in a worst-case scenario.
  17. Loudmouth's Journey Inside

Well, he may be sick, but he's not acting like it. He's doing his affectionate cat routine, jumping up on the sofa and wanting attention. This time he jumped off, but I figured I could get him back up if I showed him his cat brush (he loves to be brushed (both do, so much that they have their own brushes)). Worked like a charm. He jumped back up and let me brush him. Halfway through the session, he started kneading my left leg with his paws—something he's only started since Thursday and something that I feel is a real indication of trust. (He forgives me for making him eat the dry food.) The kneading transitioned into a sitting position, so for the last quarter of the brushing, I had a lap cat! That's something I never get from Baker: he only does that with Mrs. Prof, and again, brushing is involved.
  18. What Are You Watching?

Texas Gameday. Pre-game coverage of the match-up between the Texas Longhorns and the San Diego State Aztecs. It's mainly on as background noise as I do other things.
  19. Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)

I don't know if it was the pizza, the coffee, or all of the above, but I've had to take a phenergan tablet. Mild nausea kicked in about 20 minutes ago and hasn't gone away.
  20. What Are You Ingesting?

Probably not. Forgive me. I can't help myself. That's one of the paradoxes of my diet. I have to go high protein due to my Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. I also need some form of dairy to offset a vitamin D deficiency. At the same time, I can't handle straight milk—the bypass made me intolerant of uncooked dairy. Cheese and yogurt I can handle, as long as it's not Velveeta queso.
  21. What Are You Ingesting?

Finishing up a slice of Pizza Hut cheese pizza (w/extra cheese). About to chase it down with a cup of Tarrazu coffee.
  22. I hate to ask this, but since I can't go to my grandmother's funeral, I need all the help I can get. If anyone would please send a small something—even a $5 potted plant—I, my wife, and my son would be eternally grateful. Here is the address for the funeral service: Mildred Jackson Ben Hur Shrine Temple 7811 Rockwood Austin, TX 78757 The funeral will be held on September 6th, and the visitation begins at 1:30 p.m. CDT. If you have something sent, please make sure it arrives prior to this time. I apologize for asking for this, but I am distraught at the moment and don't know what else to do. My mental state is getting worse as the funeral date approaches.
  23. Loudmouth's Journey Inside

Okay, that was a STUNNING failure. Barely 45 minutes after eating the dry food, everything in Loudmouth's stomach came up. Looks like it might have gone past his stomach as well. He needs to see a vet. I'm starting to wonder if he's got a blockage.
  24. My Grandmother's Funeral (Sorry)

In a final post, I would like to say that I appreciate everyone's kind words, thoughts, and deeds during this time (tOH, that means you, especially). I've grieved long and hard, thanks to Hurricane Harvey. It's been a very difficult time that not even my psychiatrist has been able to help with. However, with the help of my immediate family (Mrs. Prof and my son plus, believe it or not, our cats) and my internet family, mainly here, I've managed to pull through. I hope I won't ever have to go through an ordeal like this again, but if I do, I know I've got an incredible group of people on which I can rely to help me keep from landing hard. In one last request: @The Old Hack? Would you please lock this thread? Thank you all, one final time. Now, it's time to move on.
  25. Loudmouth's Journey Inside

I just got Loudmouth to eat dry food again for what I *think* is the first time since Wednesday. I guided him back to his feeding room (no longer the cat room—he doesn't live there anymore) and got him to eat a few bites of EVO dry. It's early (6:15am), so the food has been sitting out for about 8 hours. I hope that a] that won't affect him, b] he won't overindulge, and c] he won't get sick. He needs the nutrition right now. I mean, he's doing better, but it's all been done on gravy and broth. He needs some regular food for the full nutritional package. EDIT: It seems to have perked him up a bit. Now, he's messing with Mrs. Prof, wanting attention in the master bedroom, and generally trying to get me to follow him all over the place. I don't know what he wants me to do, but it's not a long-term petting session. He might want to play, but I'm not doing that so soon after he ate. I don't want to see his breakfast on the floor, if you get my drift.
