  1. Things That Are Just Annoying

They're already bolted in. The kennels were donations, so there's no complaining. Mrs. Prof needs a way to unbolt them and a source for new bolts (not an easy deal—the big box home improvement stores don't have what she needs).

If you eat a lot of the rice, that could be the culprit. There is a myth that Japanese women are always constipated because of the amount of rice in the diet. I've been considering trying this "DulcoEase® Stool Softener with HydroSoft Action" stuff to see if it works.
  3. Things That Are Just Annoying

Mrs. Prof took most of the day off from her IRS job to work at the Garland Pet Adoption Center, helping (more like guiding) the assembly of new stainless steel kennels. Using her words as close as I can use them, it was a cluster[redacted]. The moving crew did not move out all of the old kennels, leaving that job for her and the volunteers. The baseboards, which she had so carefully measured and pre-cut prior to the arrival of the new kennels, didn't match the new kennels' measurements at all. Some of the new kennels were already bolted together in 150-pound blocks which needed to be disassembled, but according to her about 50 of the screws holding them together were stripped. She came home in massive pain and started looking up solutions for the stripped screws. I told her to get off of the computer, get an ice pack, and come sit down. Stubborn person that she is, she refused. I then asked her what time she was planning to go back up tomorrow. She said 3:30pm or 4:30pm. I immediately told her to go to bed and sleep on the problem she's got. Again, no. See what I'm up against?

http://www.teavivre.com/pu-erh-tea/?selectoption=searchattrib&attribname=teapuerhtea&attribid=212 These are 200g cakes, but I think they're still what you're looking for. Also: http://www.teavivre.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=cake+tea Some of the cakes/bricks are larger than 250g.

  6. What Are You Ingesting?

Ah. Real jasmine tea. After I got news that Teavana was closing down, I figured I'd better find a new source for my jasmine tea. Boy, did I. The place is called Teavivre, and they're based out of China. I actually found tea with real jasmine flowers in it, and not oolong this time. Hell, I even found "tea" that was nothing but jasmine flowers! You've got to buy some rather large minimums (100g) or stick with the samples (14g), but if you get over a certain amount you get a free sample. I got a sample of Lapsang Souchong, just for grins. Anyway, I just finished off a cup of the aforementioned Mo Li Piao Xue jasmine green tea. I think I let it steep a bit too long, but I'll get it right. I bought the version that comes in a tin—very nice. It even has an internal lid. Bought 100g of the straight jasmine herbal—it comes in a lightproof zipper bag. Also bought a couple of samples of Jasmine Dragon Pearls tea. They're rolled into balls that expand while they steep. Supposed to be cool to watch and just as good to taste. You can buy using PayPal, which is a plus. The minuses? The tea has to be shipped from China. You've also got to keep it in the refrigerator. Finally, the little 7g sample packs don't re-seal (save the bags and put them in a larger re-sealable bag). IMHO, though, not bad enough to turn me away from the place.
  7. Loudmouth's Journey Inside

So, a vet will trim his nails? (BTW, he's asleep to the left of me again. He's much less warm today than he was yesterday. I suspect he had a fever, and that it's gone down.)

By George, I think she's got it!
  9. Loudmouth's Journey Inside

Well, we managed to get the gravy part of a can of Friskies Turkey with Extra Gravy into Loudmouth this morning. Of course, the meat was left behind. Reminds me of a little kid who eats his mashed potatoes & gravy but won't touch the goulash (e.g., me, age 6). I just hope two things: 1] that there's some nutrition in the gravy, and 2] that he keeps it down. There were no barfing incidents yesterday, which was a blessing. He felt like he might have been running a bit of a fever yesterday. He's not so warm this morning. Mrs. Prof is working here for a couple of hours before going up to the pet adoption center to take delivery of and assemble a new set of stainless steel kennels. With her awake and present, he's not glued to my side like he was yesterday. I wonder if that'll change when she leaves. Kind of hope it will, because it was a real treat to have him as a companion yesterday. God, I wish he wasn't sick. He doesn't deserve it—he's too much of a loving cat.
  10. Story Wednesday September 6, 2017

I'm thinking Sam knew this was going to happen one day. Sam just wasn't ready for it.

  12. What Are You Watching?

Live Aussie Rules Football - playoff time from the MCG. The second quarter has just started, and Richmond is beating up on Geelong 16-4. No goals for Geelong in the first quarter.
  13. Loudmouth's Journey Inside

@CritterKeeper, Loudmouth is in need of nail trimming. Unfortunately, he won't let us pick him up and hold him long enough to trim his nails. Holding onto him is like holding onto a python. We're going to need a professional to do it. My question is, will we have to go to a vet due to his FeLV+ status? Will a vet even get near him and trim his nails? What's the protocol here?
  14. Loudmouth's Journey Inside

Mrs. Prof managed to get Loudmouth to eat one of the Fancy Feast Broths tonight: At least we're sure now he's got some liquid and some nutrition inside him, even if he isn't feeling top notch. He's now napping back in the "blue room" (i.e., a room with a blue-covered bed that makes the room look blue—used to be my son's room). As soon as she goes to bed, he'll follow her.

  16. Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)

My pain management doc questioned my recent use of Imodium. I told him it was a rare thing, which is true. However, after tonight, I'm questioning my recent use of Imodium, too. Oww. That is all.
  17. Loudmouth's Journey Inside

Oh boy. Baker woke up and came into the living room. He found Loudmouth on the sofa and was utterly perplexed as to what to do. Loudmouth is asleep on my left side at the moment. Baker jumped up on that side and walked around behind me to my right. I tried to get him to sit down, but he decided to go off somewhere instead. I think he's eating now. Crisis averted, but cat conflict warning still in place.
  18. The Weather.

Bailiff, whack that picture with a bad TV movie.
  19. Loudmouth's Journey Inside

Man ... take the above and quadruple it! Loudmouth has been with me practically all day long. He's not quite a lap cat, but he's close—when I was falling asleep an hour or two back, he came in here and jumped up next to my feet! This is bonding on a level I've never had with any pet. He follows me to the kitchen. He follows me to the bathroom, for crying out loud. (No, I don't let him in.) I don't know if this is a one-day event or a permanent bond, but it's ... well, it's emotional, and I hope it lasts. I hope he stays healthy enough for it to last.
  20. The Weather.

It's almost downright comfortable here in Dallas, if you can call mid-80s comfortable. Strange. I was born in Austin, Texas, but I've got a cold-weather gene in me. I can't stand spring/summer/fall heat. Give me winter and I'm comfortable.
  21. Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)

Well, my primary care doctor said the lesion on my ear is probably a basal cell carcinoma. That explains the referral to a skin cancer center.
  22. Loudmouth's Journey Inside

We have had an overnight improvement in Loudmouth's condition, it would seem. I woke up early, pulled up the computer, and cleared the old sinuses. Next thing I knew, Loudmouth came into the living room, looking for affection. It was back and forth on the floor for a while until he jumped up onto the sofa. He wanted petting and scratching. After a few minutes of that, he turned around and started kneading on my leg! Not even Baker has done that—he kneads against a pillow. Anyway, it was a good 4 or 5 minute kneading session until he decided to start exploring the sofa. He hit one area that he shouldn't, making me try to pick him up. Bad move. He bolted and hasn't come back. I'm going to go check on him in a second, but it was so good to see him actively affectionate again.
  23. Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)

I saw my pain management doctor at the hospital today (as mentioned elsewhere) to discuss the caudal epidural procedure and to get a refill of my pain medication. I told him I only got about 10-15% relief of my back pain overall, and only for a few days. We discussed several options and several other problems he's found with me, including a sacroiliac disorder. What we settled on is a trial of a neural stimulizer that works at 10,000 Hz and, so he says, will allow me to drive if it blocks the pain. It's going to have to work on both flare-up muscular and static nerve pain (I have the former on the left and the latter on the right), plus on pain coming from my ankles. Anyway, I'll get a call for a surgical implant date soon. When I got home, I had voice mail from another doctor about the lesion on my ear. I was under the impression I was being referred to a dermatologist, but it turns out I'm being referred to a skin cancer center. Joy. I called back about 8 minutes past closing time. I'm going to have to call back tomorrow.
  24. Loudmouth's Journey Inside

Loudmouth is not doing at all well tonight. We came home from the hospital to find at least four large barf spots on the floor. He must have emptied his entire stomach contents. He spent the rest of the day in his bed, asleep in front of a window. It's 10:32pm, and Mrs. Prof is making a grocery store run for some baby food and some liquid cat food. She figures he's got to get something down and keep it down tonight. I don't know if she's got doctor plans or not. I hope this isn't the start of his FeLV+ decline. Not on the day they buried my grandmother.
