As much as we know that the relationship between Edward and Tedd is less than perfect, it is apparent they trust each other.

Arthur apparently does not share nearly as much inside information with Jay.   This leave Jay feeling like she can't turn to Grandpa for answers and must figure things out for herself.

A few bad assumptions and a simple inquiry can become an inquisition (Bet you didn't expect that)

    Susan?

She's been to salty crackers a lot.

It was an encounter at the shop with Rich & Larry that alerted Susan to the loss of the hammers.

She may not be a tournament regular, but she is no stranger.

Also, Susan is a multiple grand descendant of Adrian Raven, her father is the cheater.  Adrian is Diane's bio-dad.

Rich has seen Sarah at the tournament before.  She wouldn't rate a gasp.

No, we have already seen enough usual suspects.  Whoever is walking through that door is somone we would not expect at the tournament.

The unfortunately named cheerleader themed superheroine?

All the silly and irresponsible things Tedd imagined doing with the Transformation Gun and other Magic-Tech back when he was proud of being a pervert?

Ashley and Nanase have realized they can get better spells by doing those things responsibly, with the right intentions.

Tedd is now thinking "I have to be the responsible one while these two are out of their parent's house for the first time in the dorms".

Nanase is an Aztec warrior slain as a sacrifice to the Sun?

Ok.  I guess that makes sense.

Running through the list of animals with similarly high metabolisms, the one that comes to mind is the Shrew.

And Tedd would not survive if he called Nanase a Shrew.

     . . . . .

Thinking back to my own college cafeteria experience, I recall substances without much flavour but very high levels of fat, sugar, and other carbohydrates.   If Nanase can use calories to power her magic, the campus meal service may be perfect for her. Provided she uses magic at least as fast as she consumes the "food".

So Ashley is in Magical Kindergarten?

    Sorry.

    Kittengarten.

     . . . .

Several million years from now, paleontologists will examine the fossil records and determine that primates and felines were at one time distinct and unrelated mammalian families.  But some how in the late Anthropocene era, a chaotic event caused the two groups to fuse and become the adorably dominant life forms on the planet.
