  1. Immortals habitually hide from one another when they are not actively seeking each other out. They seem to form small cliques, with not much in the way of an over-arching civil society—note how their voting for the new rules was a sort of ad hoc all-are-technically-equal meeting, rather than having a Chairman or President or other formal leadership. Their Law is mostly self-executing through a magically binding contract, and focuses entirely on mens rea (subjective mental state of the offender), with little reference or recourse to objective fact-finding, and so they have minimal need of courts, judges, or police. They have no “public works” or formalized redistribution of resources among themselves, so there are no taxes or ministries or standing committees. About the only thing that they need authority figures for is to arbitrate disputes between Immortals in order to prevent dangerous feuds and vendettas. In short, every Immortal is an island, needing no material resources from one another, and indeed only needing assistance outside of their friend circles when confronting massive threats (such as taking down Ragnarok and his army).

  2. We know of at least two offspring fathered by Adrian—the one “in his actual 20s”, who is implied to be Susan’s ancestor, and one 19 years ago, where Diane was conceived. He is thus not so jaded as to have sworn off sleeping with women, but he may have taken a cynical attitude towards monogamy due to the several pregnant girlfriends.

  3. Senator Alex Padilla (D-California) was arrested at a protest today, supposedly even after identifying himself.

I am worried that this may be a trial balloon for arresting other politicians who openly speak against the Administration.

Furthermore, it is a blatant violation of Article I, Section 6, Paragraph 1 of the US Constitution to arrest/detain any member of Congress in such a way as to prevent their attending a vote of their respective House of Congress. If, hypothetically, several Democratic Party Senators were so detained, it would grant the Republican Party a filibuster-proof majority of the votes that remained.

Thank you.  I had to add that 2nd comment after a much younger than me person on a Discord server asked “Who is Roger Daltrey?” without being ironic.

Sufficiently young people may actually not be familiar with the music of “The Who”. I have encountered enough teenagers that literally do not know of Elvis, for example.

  5. I’m more worried about what this does to the demarcation between civilians and soldiers, and whether such “irregular forces” will be treated as entitled to the same legal protections as soldiers or civilians, or whether Russia will declare them to be a third category exempt from protections (as the USA has done in declaring “illegal combatants”).

  6. I will avoid trying to start any “Who’s on First” type antics here.

I was trying to point out that the UK is handing out a lot of Knighthoods to people whose accomplishments are in Arts and Entertainment rather than service to the Crown/Kingdom—people who would not have been getting Knighted back when Knights were primarily warriors or government officials.

  7. Dan(a) has said that they were using whatever clothing fashions that they found to be aesthetically pleasing, spanning from at least the Regency era forward, so going by the clothing would not give a consistent date. It is, at minimum, set in an era before automobiles were common among the wealthy, so definitely pre-1900.

  8. True, but even if Magic does not care about gene-based inheritance, only some of the offspring of an Elf (or their grandchildren, great-grandchildren, etc.) will inherit the “Wizard instead of ordinary Mage” trait. So, while all humans are potential Mages (who can get personal spells), only a fraction are potential Wizards (who can copy spells from Mages).

Never heard of him; he was the real deal; wow, just wow.

To me, this feels like another 'Day the music died'. They never regained their sixties popularity, but they had some of the best music. And he was a cornerstone.

My brother is very much a fan of their music, and he has all of their albums and plays them often.

don't tell me Hope is supposed to be a young adult

The age of “adulthood” has increased in the past couple of centuries, ever since high school and post-secondary education for the working classes became common. It used to be that one would seek their apprenticeship straight out of elementary school if they were not expecting to attend university, but after the First World War, employers wanted workers who had gone to high school or trade school for all but the most menial of jobs.
