Nanase and Justin have illusion, Elliot has evocation, Greg and Dex have abjuration,  Tedd,Edward, Agent Cranium, Luke, and Sarah has Divination, to use he D&D school names, just off the top of my head.  Depending on what the closed eyes meant, Carol Brown, Ace Reporter, may have Divination as well.

Spell schools (D&D definitions) and who I can remember using them - I have probably forgotten several:

    • Abjuration: Greg, Dex, Jerry, possibly done *to* Magus, possibly threatened by Tara
    • Conjuration: (Summoning) Nanase, Susan, Dex, spidervamp; (Healing) Elliot (superheroine), Grace, Sirleck - all arguable; (Calling) Dex, Abraham; (Creation) Nanase, Jerry; (Teleportation) Nioi, all Immortals, possibly done *to* Magus
    • Divination: Edward, Nanase (fairy and guardian), Ellen (guardian), Tedd, Sarah, Tara, Nioi, possibly the ether-whale (for telepathy)
    • Enchantment: Jerry, Magus, Tengu, Nioi, Pandora, the ether-whale
    • Evocation: Dex, Justin, Terra, Sirleck, Edward, probably Tara
    • Illusion: Nanase, Justin, Raven, Jerry
    • Necromancy: -- and I doubt we'll ever see it in this comic
    • Transmutation: Tedd, Grace, Hedge, Guineas, Vlad, Elliot (superheroine), Ellen (guardian), Nanase, Abraham, Tengu, spidervamp, Nioi, all Immortals
    • Universal: Susan, French Immortals, Pandora

I don't even know what some of those words mean and I'm too lazy to Google them, so I'll just trust you on those.

  2. So Football Players evolve into Cheerleaders by trading, eh? Sure, why not. However, it is pretty weird that they switch sex like that when they evolve. So far the only Pokémon who could change its gender upon evolution is Azurill, and even that was fixed in Gen VI. Of course, I'm just assuming that Cheerleaders are a female-only species in Pokémon EGS. I have nothing against male Cheerleaders, just like male Gardevoir, Lopunny and Gothitelle.

Hmm... Cheerleaders are probably the same type as their pre-evolved form, which is most likely Fighting-type or maybe just Normal-type. However, there are still many things we don't know about them. They can learn Seismic Toss and Bounce, but what about their Stats, Abilities, Egg groups, EV yields, etc? If I had to guess, I'd say that evolving would massively increase Cheerleaders' Speed, but they might not get a very big increase in offensive Stats, since they are noticably less bulky than Football Players. That leaves me to believe that they might be more supportively inclined. You know, since that's kinda what cheerleaders do. They can learn Bounce, but I could see them using support and status moves like Helping Hand, Teeter Dance, Flatter, Attract, Charm, Sweet Kiss and Double Team.

...Then again, they are the evolved form of Football Players after all, so perhaps their increase in offensive Stats would be sufficient enough to make them good sweepers. With STAB moves like Mach Punch, Close Combat and High Jump Kick they would be a serious threat against more frail and slow opponents, and they could get some nice coverage with moves like Acrobatics, Sucker Punch, the elemental Punches and possibly even Stone Edge.

As for their Abilities, maybe something like Cute Charm, Speed Boost, Iron Fist, Adaptability, Inner Focus, Simple, Prankster, Magic Bounce or Scrappy. There are lots of great options.

  3. Well, that's one old mystery solved. Transformation magic is dreadful for healing. If you want to heal fast, use healing magic.

As for Grace, if she doesn't heal as fast as Wolverine, then perhaps her healing is the same level as, say, Spider-Man's? I remember Spidey breaking his arm/shoulder/whatever once and it was good as new after a good night's sleep. That's not bad at all.

  4. Huh. You know, even though it was pretty much glaringly obvious, I never even realized that most EGS magic is transformation magic. There are quite a few other types of magic we haven't seen yet used by the human characters because most of them can only transform, summon or fly.

What are the chances of Diane falling for a post-restoration Magus?

It depends on whether or not Magus

    1) manages to get away with everything he did to regain his physical form

    2) gets possessed by Sirleck

    3) decides to stay in this dimension

    4) is into girls

    5) enjoys spending money on his girlfriend. But hey, he can make gold, so that shouldn't be a problem.

When and where was this confirmed?

I agree that we haven't seen any. But has it ever been canonically stated that they don't exist?

No, but if there were incantations, then wouldn't every wizard be able to learn every spell without ever seeing them used? That would make them way too OP.

  7. As a member of Team Fennekin, I definitely approve of Diane's transformation.

"If not other things..." I'm sorry, but doesn't this comic already have enough lesbians? I want Diane's woman-crush on Nanase to stay platonic, thank you very much. It would be best for everyone involved.

By "nerdy foolishness" you mean the marking which will take care of the first problem? :)

    Actually, I meant the Q&A. :P

Given the old symbolism and stereotypes associated with wizards, my guess it they learn spells by reading other people's spellbooks. Granted, such ideas might be from before one of the system changes mentioned in Squirrel Prophet, but the concept is simple, iconic, and would help moderate the power levels of wizards (or at least the power versatility). It could also create some interesting drama, with a wizard hunting down spellbooks with rare and powerful spells, maybe even getting into awesome magical duels to obtain said spellbooks.

I doubt that. Not only has it been confirmed that wizards need to see the spells being used to learn them, but also because incantations don't exist in EGS. There are no magic words that activate the spell a person wants to use, they just need to wish for the spell to work. In other words, I don't think it would do any good for a wizard to read about how someone else's spell works unless of course they were planning to learn the spell later by observing the spellbook's owner.

  9. Haha, I love grumpy Diane. I wonder if she's grumpy because she has no magic or because she was made to take part in this nerdy foolishness. :D

Argh, just tell us what Tedd is already! I can't take much more of this teasing. Clearly there is a better word for him than "mutant" and I want to know what it is.

Btw, those are some saggy boobs on Ellen in panel five. Yikes.

and then as a twist (almost) nobody sees coming, Sister 3 turns out to be about Grace and Vladia.

That would be awesome. We haven't seen Grace's siblings in a very long time and I've always wanted to see more of them. Still, maybe it's best to get the "Susan meets Diane" subplot out of the way first, not to mention all the other subplots we were introduced to in this storyline.
