  1. I recognize that third image! It's from Fantasia, right?

*Me: is about to comment on the phase of the moon being incorrect for the time of day
    *Brain: the segment involved deities
    *Me: pre-emptively shuts up

Okay, so I read the title and my brain's first thought was

  2. I'm in the kitchen getting my dinner and my grandmother wheels up and hands me something. It's a shiny little gift bag about the size of a gift card with cardboard.

Me: "It's just what I've always wanted!"

Nana laughs a little. I look inside and take the thing out. It's obviously a check, but I'm deliberately looking at the back of it.

"A piece of paper! It's just what I've always wanted!"

She and Mom laugh a little and tell me to turn it around. I do.

    "Ink stains!"

    She and Mom laugh more.

Nana says the check shouldn't be cashed until the 3rd of August. Give her time to get the money. My response?

    (beat)

"An IOU! It's just what I've always wanted!"

That single sock you lost after getting the clothes out of the washer. Well, at least you lost it when it was clean...

I think all the socks were in the Box once. I remember saying something along the lines of what you said. Something like...

"You know how when you do your laundry and it comes out minus one sock?

    "All of them."

Which Wiki? EGS? Or a different one?

Ah, well, thanks for being honest with your commitment issues. I find that it helps to see the fruits of your labour every once in a while, such as re-reading one of your own stories, or taking a peek at the analytics for your traffic.

It's always good to be aware of your own limitations.

And I will reread. I've been on and off with my writings for such a long time. It'd be good to get back into the fold.

For the background noise thing, I agree with you. My phone mic isn't the greatest mic in existance (and I don't plan on carrying my laptop everywhere!), but with the volume that the noise would be at, it shouldn't matter. For the voices at the venues, I can add some reverb and echo to try to simulate the conditions. Maybe I can make a Discord server so we can discuss this in further detail?

I'm not entirely sure. I'm like Ellen; I can do guesswork and conclusion-jumping, but if I'm not well-versed in a topic, there's not really much I can offer in terms of informed opinions. In this case, the topic is audio quality and studio sound vs. on-location sound.

If I have another Ellen-esque burst of conclusion-jumping, I'll letcha know.

...I'm now starting to ponder sound effects.

This is the moment where I realise just how young I am. I've only ever heard of Ben (from the Ben 10 franchise) and Caroline (Portal 2). *insert sadder violin music*

Might not be age. You could just not be much of an anime person. Fullmetal Alchemist and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex are among the good ones.

Speaking of FMA, I think Greed II (Troy Baker) would be a good fit for Voltaire's buddy Abner. Or maybe for Jerry II?

<train of thought>Heh. Jerry II voiced by Greed II. Jerry I voiced by Greed I? No, that doesn't fit. Maybe for Hedge? Vlad? Greed I kinda reminds me of Snake. Didn't they do Princess Snake in Snake's voice in DBZ Abridged?</train>

Oh God, can you imagine the Abridged version of this, done by Team Four Star?

Also, I can tell which side of the pond you're from just from what words of yours are triggering my spellcheck alert.

  5. As much as I'd like to... I can't.

Not that I'm unable or unwilling. I think this is an interesting idea and I'd like to give it a shot. I could probably download a sufficient recording software, use my laptop's microphone, string a bedsheet through a knitting hoop to serve as a "breath wind blocker" like they have on professional mics, and use my closet as a quiet room.

But let's be realistic. I have procrastination issues. I also have commitment issues. Just look at my DeviantArt; despite having a few ongoing story projects, one of which I'm still consistently invested in, I haven't updated anything there since 2014. Doing a voice role? Even if I settle for being the "Various Minor Characters" guy, I'll still probably fail to meet deadlines or, if there aren't any, just not send in any recordings in a timely manner. And forget about a major or recurring character.

So no. As much as I don't want my voicecanon messed up for this... I'm gonna have to stay out of it.

I might be able to offer some amateur advice, though. Sure, background noise is one thing, but some comics would realistically have them, like the scenes set in the schools or the mall or even just outside. Maybe doing some audio recordings of various locations close enough to the comics would get you a good sample of background noise. Or recording lines at those places would get more believable audio (the place is an echoey mall or something but Justin sounds like he's in a recording booth).

Wait, what am I doing? This is a fan project, not a studio feature. Brain! Stop overthinking!

Find out is Tara Strong will help.  She has done some fan based stuff for MLP, she might, at least do the voice of Tara, given that is who Tara is supposed to sound like.

I still remember the pre-Crash "who do you hear the characters as?" thread. I still think teenage Ben Tennyson is a good fit for Elliot, and FMA's Envy is a good fit for Chaos (all forms). And maybe Ghost in the Shell's "The Chief" for both Arthur J. Arthur and Sirleck. And now that I think about it: Portal 2's Caroline for their secretaries, minor though they may be.

Tara (griffin)'s comic appearance is years away from us at minimum. Maybe Tara (VA) could stall for time as Vladia, that panicky blonde girl, or maybe Carol.

This is so gonna mess up how I hear their voices in my head. Big time.

  6. The Infinite Loops fanfictions. Specifically the "restore the Puella Magi Madoka Magica universe" snippets on the Spacebattles forums. I think I'm gonna stop waiting for updates on fanfiction.net (which very rarely happens) and stick to reading the forum where the actual updates are.

  7. Finally got my keyboard working (a Yamaha-brand 61-key going from C2 to C7). Turns out it just needed a new power cord; it won't work with batteries anymore. So we got the cord, I play it, it works fine. The A3 key sometimes craps out for a bit, but it still works in general.

I plug it in today to play Temmie Village just for kicks. And...

    C. F[tweet]ing. Five.

Okay, so I just checked right now turning it off and on and it works again, but while A3 would work again if you bug it enough, C5 just up and died and wouldn't work until I reset the thing. This is in the "annoying" thread and not the "mad" thread since the key still works and the thing's still playable, but now there's precedent for one of the vital keys crapping out, which means it could happen again.

  8. My brother got a Wii U, Smash, and the new Star Fox games a little while ago, and recently got Twilight Princess HD + Wolf Link amiibo.

For Smash, an ongoing thing I was doing was trying to get all the custom special moves. It's ongoing. Corrin and Shulk are pretty fun to play as, though. I gotta say, I love Lucario's "Advancing Force Palm" custom move. It's a good horizontal recovery.

Twilight Princess, the fact that the map was reversed from what I'm used to was kinda messing me up a little, but I think I'm okay now. Except in the original version, when you had a full wallet and you opened a chest that had money in it, you'd put the money back and leave the chest for later. I didn't like that they removed that for Skyward Sword, and I don't like it that they removed it for the remake. Also, all those Miiverse stamps are annoying. Dangling a chest in front of your eyes, going through all the effort to get it, only to find a stamp for a feature we don't even use! I'll take the ten Rupees over a frikkin' stamp any day.

  9. As of last Sunday, the last two kittens are no longer with us. It was nice having them around, but now they're in a better place.

...by which I mean they were adopted by one of Mom's friends from work. What'd ya think I meant? ;P

Belated byebye for Lily and Joe.

    [EDIT] removed piano comment [/EDIT]

Also my brother got a Wii U a while ago, as well as Smash and the new Star Fox games. Recently he also got Twilight Princess HD (I'm used to the Wii version, so the map being reversed threw us off for a bit). It's fun.

  10. Forcefields.

    With forcefields I could...

    • have an umbrella anywhere I went
    • have stairs and ramps to go up and down things that don't have those
    • make a table to write on or eat on
    • make a stand for my keyboard whenever I need one
    • make a chair to sit on whenever I need one
    • block the door so I could have privacy
    • have a box to carry things in whenever I need one
    • have a light source, if the forcefield glows
    • herd cats easily
    • make a bridge so I can cross the road without having to wait for the light to change
    • ???
    • profit

Could have been members of the same species that are not Greedo.

I know, but I wonder how many people were like "Wait, is that Greedo? Didn't he die in the last scene?"

Or the worse implication, "Sorry. You know all you Greedos look alike."

Anyone have any thoughts on the Sun/Moon trailer and the starters?  Can't say any of the three have grabbed me the way Fennekin or Tepig did.

I like Rowlet. He's kinda cute somehow.

I've recently dusted off MegaMan Battle Network 6: Cybeast Falzar. I don't remember restarting, but I did, and when I started it back up again I was between the Seaside Town level and the first Expo Navi test. Right now I'm trying for 100% Completion (minus the secret chips, at least). Still need to get past that S door in the Graveyard.

Interesting note: If you have the "Oil Body" NaviCustomization program equipped and run around Central Area 2, BlastMan will be the only opponent you encounter (after you've fought him once in that area, anyway, since that first encounter is on a specific tile). Oil Body attracts Fire-element enemies, and since BlastMan is the only Fire enemy in that area...

Also, Minecraft version 1.10 is out. Took three weeks from the first snapshot to the final release. Polar Bears and new Zombie and Skeleton variants were added, Mesa biomes have a lot more gold, magma blocks were added to the Nether, and a few other things.

  13. Star Wars IV, 2004 edition.

I do not care for the Jabba scene. We just had this conversation like two minutes ago with Greedo. It's redundant. It annoys me with its pointlessness.

(also the Greedo costume gets reused like six times after Greedo dies, including three times in the Jabba scene)

There are a few OC remixes of that, both quite good.

This one is HUGE, though. I can't tell if it repeats,or keeps on doing different variations, without listening more carefully than I can right now.

... okay, I think it began repeating.

It lasts twice as long as the original before repeating, if I'm hearing correctly. Starts repeating at about three minutes; the original repeats at one and a half.

Anyway, here's another one. We got a Wii U and Smash and we downloaded Corrin, and he came with two music tracks. "Lost In Thoughts All Alone" from Fire Emblem: Fates, and a remix of said song.

I went and tracked down the full version.

Obligatory lyrics. The captions for this one are surprisingly accurate for a YouTube video.

You are the ocean's gray waves, destined to seek

life beyond the shore just out of reach

Yet the waters ever change, flowing like time
The path is yours to climb

In the white light, a hand reaches through

A double-edged blade cuts your heart in two
    Waking dreams fade away
    Embrace the brand new day

Sing with me a song of birthrights and love
The light scatters to the sky above

Dawn breaks through the gloom, white as a bone
    Lost In Thoughts All Alone

You are the ocean's gray waves, destined to seek
life beyond the shore, just out of reach

Yet the waters ever change, flowing like time
The path is yours to climb

Embrace the dark you call a home

Gaze upon an empty, white throne
    A legacy of lies
    A familiar disguise

Sing with me a song of conquest and fate
The black pillar cracks beneath its weight

Night breaks through the day, hard as a stone
    Lost In Thoughts All Alone

The path you walk on belongs to destiny, just let it flow

All of your joy and your pain will fall like the tide, let it flow

Life is not just filled with happiness, nor sorrow

Even the thorn in your heart, it time it may become a rose

A burdened heart sinks into the ground

A veil falls away without a sound
Not day nor night, wrong nor right
for truth and peace you fight

Sing with me a song of silence and blood
The rain falls, but can wash away the mud

Wuithin my ancient heart dwells madness and pride
Can no one hear my cry

You are the ocean's gray waves, destined to seek
life beyond the shore just out of reach

Yet the waters ever change, flowing like time
The path is yours to climb

You are the ocean's gray waves

I think the Harry Potter series could probably span several age demographics, but then it was done in a way that people who were teens when the first book came out, kinda grew up alongside Harry as new books were released. At least that's the impression I got.

I think Azumanga Daioh was the same way in Japan, having a three-year run matching a three-year high school term.

Anyway, I'm officially 26 in about a month. Think I'll dust off my "Party Hat" slay collection and see what happens.
