Here it is.

This does raise the question of who certifies a monster hunter.  Also, given that there most likely isn't a cash bounty on monsters, she needs a day job to pay the bills. Working at DGB, even if not an agent, provides her with access to information about where monsters are being a problem so she can go out and deal with them.

How would a monster bounty work if the existence of monsters has (until recently) been secret and most jurisdictions in the US have no (or extremely limited) nusiance wildlife bounties.

And our author really wants to bring a manticore into the story.  Why the hand wringing?  It's just a big cat with an unfortunate face.

And wings.  And a venomous stinger for a tail.  And, depending on which mythos you get it from, may be more intelligent than your average human.

See the “Monster Hunter International” series of books by Larry Correia.  “Puff” payments are from the secret branch of the government and are paid out for killing select supernatural beings.  Not all supernatural beings have Puffs, just the dangerous ones. Of course in EGS, the branch that would be paying would most likely be DGB, so there is that.

That is not a particularly high bar.

It's higher than, say, your average dog.  Maybe not cat, however.
