I find it much easier to remember who is who when posters use avatars. I assume I'm not alone in this. Please consider using an avatar. If you can't decide what to use, even an abstract shape makes things much easier. Thank you.

Agreed. For instance, I can't remember what your original name was, but I recognize that avatar image for sure. (I also enjoy having avatar threads in order to post previous avys to keep track of the changes people have made over the years).

... unfortunately, still doesn't seem to work. Announcements are http, forums are http, profiles are http ... only images and styles are https on https://community.910cmx.com/ ... at least as I see it (can it be cache or something?).

Yeah, and if you load the page under https rather than http, marking forums as read by clicking on the bubbles doesn't work.

I think he could do it with his existing "any woman he can imagine" spell - he just needs the possibility pointed out to him, followed by maybe practicing it enough that he can easily get it right.

Enter the Disco Wizard: Now that's just cheating! Well lets see you deal with this...

And suddenly Elliot develops some new side effect. I can't imagine anything suitable, but I'm sure the Disco Wizard has a lot of experience trolling lazy magic users who tries to play the rules.

Disco Wizard is heavily implied to be just a messenger for Magic itself, he doesn't make the rules or anything like that.

Well, Tara and Andrea were still off to the side sharing a moment when the rest decided to meet back at Charlotte's, so they didn't really have a chance to voice their concern and suggest an alternative until it was just Elliot left.

But why do that? Why wouldn't you check with the very two people you need to talk to about where you should talk with them?

We don't really know how does the magic behind the spellbooks work, but the first thing I would do is see if there is a way to digitize (is that the word?) it, set an app that notify me every time the document has changed, and tell me what lines were added / modified, like Git does. There is a point in time where keeping track of that damn thing, in a physical book, is simply unfeasible, and it would be really annoying well before that point.

Tedd! Get on it! (Hah, the idea of Git Repos for each magic user is pretty great too).

  6. So...like, they already all drove back to Charlotte's dorm, and didn't clarify where everyone was going before driving off? Huh.

Nanase has>met Cheerleadra by now, but she hasn't seen the area where the Griffins are and Ch(etc.) isn't carrying a preexisting doll, so unless Nanase has received a slight upgrade the connection shouldn't work.

Of course, lately even Nanase can't keep up to her frequent upgrades, so that wouldn't take much of a stretch.

Goodness, that was a lot of white space.

So ... Nanase, are you going to help ask questions or to help offend Elliot?

Also, it looks to me like the editing tools are fairly straightforward.  So I'm not sure I understand the earlier comments in this thread.  Unless, of course, additional changes have been made in the last three days.

There are some nifty additions and serious problems with how some of the stuff is handled (quotes being the biggest problem: They only show one level of nesting). I made a thread about both things here:

(Also amusing to note that nearly all of the activity here has been us EGS folks...)

That was the majority of the traffic before the crash as well, by a fair margin. I think maaaybe the Wotch was a distant second?

  8. ~waves~ I lurked in at the tail end of the EGS Keenspot days, joined the forums proper back during the Bad Old Days of '07-'09 IIRC, bounced around a bit during that time, coming and going... and finally came back pretty solidly a few years back. Not completely certain of the timeframes involved in all of that, though.

So, did we loose our old logins as well, or did I just forget what it was?

Everything got nuked. :/ You didn't forget anything.

I don't think we know yet how much of the old data might still be recovered.  I made a plea for them to please at least set up something so we could carry on, and not wait for the data recovery attempts' conclusion.  If they can get a bunch of stuff back, they'll probably either set it up as an archive or try to merge it all together, no idea which.

I'd much prefer the archive over a merge. Have it there for reference, but let's start anew outright.

  10. Currently listening to Rise Against's Endgame album. Great band.

Verity!, an all-women Doctor Who podcast (named in honor of the original producer of the show).  They've decided on a theme of Firsts for this year, and thus are reviewing both first episodes, old series and new.  It's great hearing the breadth of perspectives on "Rose" and what everyone thought of the idea of a revival of the series at the time.  The sort-of-companion-podcast Radio Free Skaro (which is all guys) often makes for a good contrast to this one, but I haven't caught up yet to learn what the boys have planned for the season off.

One of my favorite review quotes ever came from a Verity! episode, describing Clara's influence on the Doctor.  Something along the lines of, "Donna showed how sometimes, the Doctor needs someone to tell him when to stop.  Clara has taken the brakes off and is going WHEEEEE!!!!"

My girlfriend got me into Dr Who last year...and the only way I had of watching it was Netflix. This was also the only thing I got Netflix for as well. Now I get to cancel Netflix...but I don't get to watch Dr Who anymore. :/ Bit of a mixed feeling, there.

  11. 2016-03-01 Comic

Hah. Y'know, with as much of a deal that Dan's made of where Elliot's keys and other assorted items go when he transforms, this should have been predictable...
    ...
    I totally didn't predict it.

(Also, Panels 3 and 5 are BEGGING to be taken out of context. Panel 5 in particular with that pose and blush...)

EDIT: Playing around with tags. Interesting. I like that we can have one called out. Also, I love that we can FINALLY edit our topic titles. About freaking time.

This is useful information, and should probably be in a separate thread, maybe in the General section.

Good idea, I'll throw together a post real quick with some of the basic info I've figured out from playing around on the forums the past hour or so :). It won't stay accurate for too long, due to upgrades and other such stuff being done as the forums get put into order (Like @Robin has implied that BBCode will probably be coming as soon as it gets fixed on the forum software end, and in the meantime if we wish [and we {or at least I} definitely do] they'll turn on HTML formatting for us).

But some basic stuff on how the editor seems to be working would be good, and then others can add what they've figured out to it as well. :)

EDIT: And done. Here's the thread as promised:

    Comic [url="http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=2163"]here.

As stated elsewhere, are we really sure Elliot has been neglecting his spellbook?  Or did he just get an upgrade or two today or in the recent past?

Unknown at this moment. We'll probably get clarification in the next page.

10 hours ago, Aura Guardian said:

Elliot, would you PLEASE reference your spellbook more? Maybe on-panel, so we know what your spells are?

    This would be nice.

I still don't think Elliott is dumb enough to keep making the mistake of neglecting the book after what happened the first time.

I wouldn't be too sure. He does strike me as a "make the same mistake 8 times" kind of guy. He means well, and he isn't stupid, but he is a bit predictable and doesn't seem to put a whole lot of thought into his choices. I can see him checking the book regularly for maybe a week or two, then going back into his old routine and forgetting to keep up with it.

Hah, I seem to have figured out a way to force nested quotes. (You have to multiquote both posts, then drag one quote inside the other in the WYSIWYG editor). Also, I agree with Changer.

I still wonder if his "phone integration" allows him to use something else than call. Like ... SMS? GPS? Internet?

Also, is this "integration" specific for Cheerleadra form and Heidi has "normal" hidden pocket, or does Heidi have this power too?

I think she check at least twice a week, maybe more often, if something new appeared ON THE END. Re-reading whole book for case something appeared in middle? That would be too time-consuming to do weekly even if she would want to. So, IMHO the information about new outfit appeared in the middle and THAT's why she overlook it.

I'm not sure NANASE always does. Remember, it's very verbose and it's making up new words.

This post is an example of why we need the nesting quotes. Is this even possible to understand in context without following the linkback three different times? Now what if we had an entire chain going on, with multiple multiquote responses? Anyways, I think the GPS, Internet, SMS integration would be a cool thing.

ALSO, just so everyone knows: On these boards hitting enter adds a new line in between the line you're writing on and the next thing you type. Like so:

: See? No need to hit the enter button twice to spread paragraphs out. Now, if you need merely a carriage return and not an empty new line between them, hit "shift+enter" to get the next line without excess spacing. Like so:
    : see? :)

  14. I'm here again as well. But I'm sure this surprises nobody.

    • Good points.  Has a like button.
    • Bad points deals badly with cut and pasted text.
    • No apparent way to turn off WYSIWYG mode on the editor.

Good Points: Very fast compared to the old one. Multiquote is handled quite well, except that adding commentary BEFORE the quotes is impossible without dragging the quotes around within the editor.
Bad Points: WYSIWYG (Though it is MUCH improved over the last one at least), and the BLINDING WHITE. My eyes bleed already. I'm not seeing any issues with copy pasta though.

    4 hours ago, hkmaly said:

I second the WYSIWYG disadvantage. Where's my bbcode?

Thirded. Either BBCode or HTML or Markup. Or all three, preferably.

    Mine eyes. They is pain.

So, I was reading into the Invision forums on this version of the forum software, and it seems there was a big glitch in BBCode and they're working on bringing it back. Until then, I could turn on the HTML format if that'll help you guys out, let me know if you'd like this.

I'd be super down for that.

Good luck with recovery. There are definitely posts I would like preserved.

Meanwhile, can you get the option of editing the source back? I mean, write the posts in bbcode instead of WYSIWYG.

Yes, this please. BBCode or basic HTML or something other than in addition to WYSIWYG. (I'd also take Markdown).

Also, there's a bit of a bug in the profile area. When putting in date of birth, both the first two boxes are the month of birth...and no option for the day. And it throws an error if you don't put at least the month and the day.

Good luck with the data recovery. I'd like to see some of the stuff preserved as well.

EDIT: Also, another bug report: The "Location" info underneath the user's post count has formatting issues. If you just put "Texas - USA" in the box, for instance, what appears to show is "LocationTexas - USA". So I had to put ": Texas - USA" to make it look right.

Maybe a bug report forum / subforum would be a good idea?

EDIT2: Also, I know this is probably a big ask, but is there any possibility of a dark theme (Grey or black) being offered? I like the general design and layout, but the bright white is quite blinding.
