No no, it means that Mr. Raven had no less than three of the ultra-rare Extravagant Spellbreaker card but that he traded them away for less useful cards because he thought he couldn't use them.

Eh, it's okay that she got a Flash spell. I am just wondering if at some point since she has gotten Arrow as well.
  3. mixing genes

I dunno but I would love to hear the howl of agony that would rise from the MRAs.
  4. Story Wednesday June 14, 2017

For many generations now, Immortals have mistakenly passed the belief on to their children that they cannot use the Extravagant Spellbreaker card from Magical Gatherings.
  5. Story Wednesday June 14, 2017

    It is now.
  6. Story Wednesday June 7, 2017

    I wish.
  7. Story Monday June 12, 2017

Somewhere up our ancestral tree is swimming a lungfish we are all descended from. I knew this fad of breathing air and crawling on land wouldn't lead to anything good.
  8. Things that make you go WTF

If I may be permitted an aside... I was once chatting with my friend Liz, whose late father was part of the Danish diplomatic service. I was telling her about World of Warcraft, that dread time waster among MMOs. One thing that is rather useful to learn is how to cook. One of the easiest ways to do this at intermediate levels is to catch lots of fish and cook them. But fishing takes time to learn and I am lazy, so accordingly I had a character of mine who did know how to fish send several packages containing stacks of 20 fish each to the would-be chef de cuisine. I reflected to Liz that it must be odd to work in a mail service where part of the job is hauling packages of dead fish from point A to B. Liz responded with a story from the real world. Her father had been privileged to read some of the communications sent from the British diplomatic service. One of these happened to be regulation changes for how to use diplomatic mail. It read as follows: "Due to the recent incident in South Africa, it is with immediate effect from now on and in all future forbidden to use the diplomatic pouches for the transport of live bees." Once again, real life surpasses imagination. In any event, I still find myself incapable of imagining what kind of mind in which universe would think that it was a good idea to send live bees by way of diplomatic pouches.
  9. Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)

As you wish! If I may be permitted a terrible joke, the sausage is in the mail.
  10. Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)

I... frankly am not sure, Prof. I am at a loss. All I do know is that every health care system, the Danish included, has blind spots, flaws and will at times fail to serve its purposes. I can only give you generalised advice related to the struggles of myself and my own friends and family when stuck. Number one is not to focus on the whole. You get overwhelmed that way. Focus on what can be done. To quote Heinlein, "When faced with a problem you don't understand, do any part of it you do understand, then look at it again." Your podiatrist at least seems to have his head screwed on straight. The problem with your foot may only be a small part of the whole, but if you manage to solve it, at least that much will have been taken off your load. Number two is, a problem which appears unsolvable may become more tractable if viewed from a different angle or simply from stepping back from it and focusing on something else for a bit before returning your attention to it. If need be, I will buy you some more sausages so you can focus on cooking and eating them. Once you turn back to fighting the health care system -- because that is unfortunately how it can feel, being in this situation -- you may find a different approach or a different health care specialist who might listen to you and find a solution that has eluded the others. In any event, you remain in my thoughts. I remain hopeful that you will manage to find a way through. I am certain your other friends here are in agreement with me on this.

Indeed. But this is Sarah. And one of her principal qualities is empathy, closely followed or perhaps even exceeded by her compassion. Box barely even let her close at all and yet Sarah could still sense that there was something wrong. It is one reason Sarah is one of my favourite characters in comics.
  12. Things that make you worried.

This is true. I should have remembered that my old Burmese Catso firmly believed that he was perfect due to being big, brown and fat.
  13. Things that make you worried.

Maybe he is just fretting because of the trail camera. He probably decided that if he ever had to pose in front of it, he'd better be in perfect shape to impress all the ladies, so he started dieting.
  14. Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)

This sounds like good news for a change. Not sure about you but I'll take it.
  15. Things that make you go WTF

Well duh. That's open and shut.
  16. Things that make you go WTF

    I'll stick with Windows 7.
  17. Things that make you go WTF

And then some Spartans throw it into the air and it ends its career as air pollution.
  18. Things that make you go WTF

This kind of reminds me of Catbert making a policy change that was incredibly aggravating yet did not actually achieve anything. He then sits for a moment, trying to think of a justification for it he can append to the policy. He finally settles for, "Because I hate you all."

A sufficiently sized ego will normally have no problems. However, unusual situations may arise even for them at times.
  20. Things that make you go WTF

They do the coding, you do the cooing. Seems like a fair division of labour.
  21. Story, Friday June 9, 2017

Very true. Nonetheless, I have the feeling that this is not something that happens to Pandora often. Especially when they reach plurals.
  22. Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)

Just keep an eye out for ninja and pools with sharks in them, and you'll be all right. Mind you, if someone passes you a stash of uncut diamonds it will be time for you to be careful. In that case, make sure that your sexy assistant and driver (Mrs. Prof) has the engine warm and ready for a fast escape.

Eh, we did see him play with a ball of yarn once, didn't we?
  24. Trail Camera and Other Nature Images

It's too small to be an insurance agent.
  25. Story, Friday June 9, 2017

Box is... interesting throughout today's page. Much more quiet, pensive and... no, restrained is not the right word. 'Subdued', perhaps. Which is almost frightening in its own right. It gives me a feeling of a potent and knowledgeable being contemplating matters that makes even her feel small.
