The Moderator: While I understand your indignation, I am afraid that this is rather necroposting. My apologies but I am locking the thread.

Try to imagine that you are wearing full kit. Now you get told that you also have to carry the squad radio. This radio, as it happens, turns out to be a WW2 hand-me-down that weighs around 40 lbs. Now imagine that you get told to march along one of the roads the Germans laid down in order to improve communications between various key defense points on the western coast of Jutland. These are always straight as a ruler. You get told to cover twenty miles and they are all straight ahead. No turns, little variation in elevation, barely any change in the landscape at all. Mental exhaustion from boredom gradually reaches the point where you do not even notice your physical tiredness anymore. It becomes an effort of will to put one foot in front of another, not because you are tired (though you are) but because you can no longer see any point to doing so. If you are making any progress at all, it is beyond your ability to quantify how much. Now imagine you are using Windows. See? Two minutes of that, and you are already longing for the time where you were marching in full kit on that bollocking ruler-straight road.

A very busy day indeed! At least it seemed productive rather than frustrating. And I like that UT Southwestern are so quick off the mark -- somehow that seems to bode well to me. Agreed. In fact, I believe Vorlonagent may be too conservative in his estimate. I suspect they will be repeating not merely the important points but also the lesser ones well into next week.

Good! I hope the cars will live up to it. (I am still amused at the low-carb Hondas you told us about recently. At least, I am assuming that their carburators kept exploding because they were low-carb.) I am not much of a cook but I do know that good food is a great balm for the soul. That's terrifying. I am now envisioning thousands of Persians fitting carp to the drawstrings of their bows. Though that explains how all those carp got up there to begin with. The Persians started out with lots of practice volleys just to see how far they could shoot, and with that large number of carp shot upwards and then falling towards the ground, statistically speaking some of them had to miss.

Damn. That's a lot of flying fish. And I didn't even know carps could fly. I guess that is why sharks have learned to travel by tornado, to have a shot at catching them. It's all the recent sharknadoes that got rid of them in the LA area so the skies there are clear again, then?

At the very top of mine is you getting better. Concentrate on that, old friend. All else will follow from there. I hope so, too. You have not had an easy time of it. But we can at least hope that the surgeons there show more competence and dedication than your last spine doctor did.

Prof, let me make a few things clear for you. It is NOT a matter of 'deserve' in any way or form. First, I am reading this because I want to support a friend in pain. Thus, I am doing this by choice. Next, you do not deserve this, either. Health problems happen and they are not subject to our control. And unfortunately some doctors are just not as supportive of their patients as they should be. I am very sorry to hear of your trouble with yours. I am still hoping to hear of improvement in your situation. If nothing else, your podiatrist seems competent and sensitive to your troubles. We will just have to see for the rest. Please give my regards to Mrs. Prof and tell her that we all appreciate her efforts. And take care of yourself, hard as it may be at times. This too shall pass.
