Kind of a clever approach to exposition, if it is not overused.

It is too specific to not be tied to the Uryuom projection, but why would they post it on an RPG board? The backstory for the posting makes no sense.

Assuming it was during the Usenet era, lots of weird things got posted for RPG.  Some rather specific.  Of course you had to make it generic otherwise "The Sue Regularly" would send you a cease and desist notice.  That era of TSR's history really didn't like unlicensed content.  Some say that this was a major contributor to the fall of TSR and it being bought out by WotC.
