In grade 6 (1989-90) our teacher played that song plus this one a lot, we even spent time analyzing both songs and learned about sampling and lyric structure. But yeah, a lot of Billy Joel's music hold's up really well I think, aside from "We didn't start the fire" that is, I don't think many of the references in that song would have as much impact on today's youth...though I'm sure the lyrics could be updated using all the major events from 89 to now pretty easily.
  2. Story Monday November 28, 2016

My grandfather was born out of wedlock, his mother was so ashamed of it that she had her sister who was married raise him and she acted as his aunt, it wasn't until years after grandpa had married and had children that the truth came out. Within the past 15 years or so grandpa got curious about his family heritage and him and dad have been trying to fill out as much of the family tree as possible, and was able to find out that his biological father had gone on to have a couple more sons, one of which was nearly 20 years younger than grandpa. Earlier this year he got a chance to meet this half brother and despite their age difference you could definitely tell they were related, the half brother had more bulk than grandpa ever did but looking at his face, it was exactly how grandpa looked 20 years ago. Another example is my grandmother, my aunt that's her youngest daughter, and my aunt's daughter, also have very striking similarities that it's almost like going back in time looking at them, I've seen various pictures of grandma at different ages and there were some where I honestly thought it was a picture of my aunt or cousin done up in black&while or sepia to look like an old picture.
  3. Story Monday November 28, 2016

Nanase is pretty sure, Susan had told her about what happened on the road trip to the cave and Jerry's vow to aid them when he could, Diane's description of the busybody and that he stated he owed her sister a favour fit what Susan told her. Jerry's involvement is probably the one sure thing Nanase can go on with regards to Diane's relation to Susan, whether it's twins, or half sisters, or distant cousins, remains to be confirmed to them.
  4. Things that make you go WTF

There was this one particular moment at work, I had gone down to the laundry room of the hotel to get more clean linens, and I just happen to brush up against one of my coworkers who was apparently in her own little world while folding towels, the scream was quite loud. Heck, there are times where I'd try to intentionally make my presence known before I got too close. I'd walk with heavy feet to make my footsteps louder, make other noises, and yet once I speak, people jump. The other day I even tried saying hello to a coworker from the end of the hall, a good 20 feet away, and she still jumped. I absolutely can't win. Although, my "talent" with sneaking up on people and startling them has given me the ability to cure people's hiccups. Case in point, we were on lunch break and one of my coworkers was hiccuping every few seconds, I had asked her if she tried taking a deep breath then drinking a tall glass of water before slowly exhaling, which normally works for me. She said yes but it didn't work, she starts heading upstairs to clean rooms and I follow about 2-3 feet behind her, after a few steps I go "boo!" and she jumps, then yells at me asking why I did that, I just pointed a finger at her and asked "do you still have hiccups?" She pauses a moment, then grumbles a thanks and continues upstairs.

Not sure how you considered my idea weird. As you said before, you see Lucy playing MMORPGs, if so, then there's a chance she's played WoW, which means there'd also be a chance that she'd be interested in seeing the movie as well, though you don't necessarily need to have played WoW to be interested, there's the 3 Warcraft RTS games, Hearthstone, a slew of books that put the lore of Warcraft in great detail, also fan made machinima, anyone who's had experience with those and liked them would consider seeing the movie. It's possible Lucy was planning on seeing it herself without Diane and Rhoda, but then Diane was like "I want to see the Warcraft movie, want to come with us?" and so Lucy, who never expected this from Diane was like "uh...ok?" Basically, hearing Diane want to see Warcraft was so shocking, Lucy could power the other half of the city.

It's like "We've never done something like this together, yet here we are, and it was your idea." hard to believe
  7. NP Monday November 28, 2016

I don't think so. There hasn't been any evidence of it. Possibly as well. I took that as Lucy not objecting to seeing the movie, just shocked and suspicious that Diane was eager to see the movie.
  8. NP Monday November 28, 2016

She probably does, but I don't think it's likely that Diane would be there, she had an image to maintain which was that she wasn't a nerd. It is interesting though, she apparently doesn't hold those standards to Lucy or Rhoda, I think with Lucy they both shared the same intent to get guys to buy them stuff and that was fine with her, and what Lucy did on her own time wasn't for Diane to dictate. Rhoda, I still believe represents someone that makes Diane feel like a guardian. We've never seen Diane threaten to kick Rhoda from the groupfor her looks or behaviour, but quite the opposite, Diane was always coming to Rhoda's defense and comforting her, the latter link probably shows that Diane is trying to help Rhoda be less passive about stuff, which seems to have helped considering how Rhoda is now, though Catalina probably was a big help with that too. Something like Diane? While I did say that Diane has been trying to maintain the image that she's not a nerd or geek, it's pretty clear that image has been crumbling for a while now and is probably almost gone now. Although if we're to take this as canon, then maybe not quite crumbled yet.

That's because Lucy has viking ancestry, built like a Norse goddess.
  10. Things that make you go WTF

I'm 6'4" and nearly 300lbs and people say I have the uncanny knack of being able to sneak up on them without making a sound.
  11. Story Monday November 28, 2016

Tedd's awakening in this manner may still be used for that, if his awakened powers allows him to hunt down Immortals.
  12. Story Monday November 28, 2016

Makes me wonder if Voltaire is hoping for this now. Think about it, while we don't know if Tedd's "rarity" has an awakened state, the fact the he's been marked suggests that, if there is an awakened state, Tedd hasn't done so yet. As of Voltaire's most recent appearance in the comic, it is highly probable that Voltaire is attempting to trigger an major angst induced awakening in Tedd. For what reason is still not clear but dropping the bomb about his mother to him would very likely push him over the edge at this point.
  13. Story Monday November 28, 2016

I think Nanase has considered them, her and Ellen discussed it after the incident with Not_Tengu, and Ellen has mentioned a few times more recently her concern about what effect it would have on Susan, this certainly is hinting that Ellen was right, but I think Nanase still believes this would be better in the long run.
  14. Story Monday November 28, 2016

I think it's mainly to satisfy Nanase's conscience, because she believes Diane and Susan are sisters, even if just half-sisters, it's still enough that if something was to happen to either of them before they meet, it would weigh heavy on her. She believes it's the right thing to do and that any negative feelings that it digs up can be dealt with.

"It's not my fault I'm finding out the reason why the previous tenants didn't stay here!"
  16. Story Monday November 28, 2016

I'd say it's more like Susan doesn't like that she would have more to hate her father about. I'd say it's a lot closer to this expression, which did the job of scaring people away. Hopefully Susan doesn't storm out of the house before they are able to finished telling the rest, like how Jerry protected Diane as a favour to her sister. That's pretty much been the clincher this whole time, their similar appearance and time of birth got the ball rolling, the affinity was just extra.
  17. http://www.egscomics.com/?id=2278 Mind you they haven't directly said that Diane very well could be Susan's half sister, but Susan seems to be taking the knowledge of Diane's existence well. Her reaction to there having been 7 vampires is rather understandable too.

That's why I figure she's into cosplay or larping if she's wearing that outfit.
  19. Story, Friday November 25, 2016

That depends on if Not_Tengu used the same form back when Noriko fought him. Obviously Tengu was the name he used strictly for the forum and the name he was about to give was likely the one that would have been on file if they ever got a name back then, so I dunno if anyone would have thought that he'd be a threat. Of course, up until his response to Charlotte posting about Ellen and Nanase attending the party, he was apparently behaving within the forum's courtesy rules ( ) so it wouldn't have raised any suspicion, and depending on how bureaucracy works in DGB (big hint here), action probably wasn't likely to be taken until he made a move.

::continuing from the "what are you ingesting?" thread:: "Real coaches should be thick enough to win games"
  21. What Are You Ingesting?

Reminds me of the Oatmeal Crisp commercials back in the day. "Real oatmeal should be thick enough to stand on" "Real oatmeal should be thick enough to stop a 9-iron"
  22. Story, Friday November 25, 2016

I'm not saying there was any chance of Diane being on that trip. Just saying that maybe Mrs Pompoms, while knowing that Diane went to MSHS (though she likely didn't try to watch Diane closely as it could raise suspicion) and that the two schooled did trips together, thought there might be a chance that Diane would be on that trip. That's complete speculation though. Background check on Susan clearly DID involved details of her parents divorce. Edward has also briefly met Diane on New Years, and I think her interaction with Nanase might have given him enough reason to attempt a background check on her, note he was quick to say how difficult it is to find adoption records? Was that just from common knowledge of doing background check with other adopted people, or did he try to look up Diane's history. Not saying he suspected her of being Susan's sister as well, but just for the usual reasons of protecting family and seeing if he can trust their friends. Still, Nanase was surprised by the idea that Diane didn't catch on sooner, panel 5 was Nanase thinking "how could you not have figured you weren't true sisters with how different you looked". I'm not entirely sure if being 6 at the time would be considered a good enough defense, personally I think 4 would be the earliest that someone would start questioning stuff like "why is her skin colour darker than mine if we're sisters?", being 6 might still have that , but the older you get, the better the chance of you figuring it out yourself. Maybe that's why it was a big deal, maybe Diane and Rhea were pestering each other and Rhea blurted out "you're not my real sister!"
  23. Story, Friday November 25, 2016

If Diane's mother had been involved in an affair with Mr Pompoms which resulted in an unplanned pregnancy, chances are the mother put Diane up for adoption right after birth. Depending on the heritage of the adoptive parents, even if Rhea was a year old when they adopted Diane, Rhea might have figured out she was adopted before Diane did, but didn't consider Diane being adopted until Diane was told. Or probably more likely, Diane didn't question why she looked different than the rest of the family until she was 6, Rhea might have assumed Diane knew until that point as well so it wouldn't be like she kept a secret from her, just assumed it was common knowledge based on how obvious it would have looked. Even Nanase was surprised that Diane didn't know how ethnicity worked at that age.
  24. Story, Friday November 25, 2016

I don't think she'd be enraged, maybe she didn't initially expect that any of Susan's friends would make the connection or that she'd end up with friends from another school, although letting her go to France knowing that the trip included students from both schools should have raised concerns if she wanted it to remain secret, but it didn't....Did Mrs Pompoms hope that Susan might meet Diane on that trip? It's also possible that Mrs Pompoms wanted to tell Susan about Diane, but maybe she wasn't able to for some reason, maybe there was shame involved and Mrs Pompoms wanted time to figure out how to come forward with it. Or maybe(very low chance likely), Mr Pompoms had some sort of leverage to forbid Mrs Pompoms from telling Susan, so Susan finding out about Diane through other channels would end up being a relief to Mrs Pompoms.
  25. Story, Friday November 25, 2016

Like I said in the previous thread, the sword did initially glow when she summoned it, but it stopped glowing shortly after (panel 7 of that linked comic shows it) this comic shows that the glow didn't stop so it's not related to the actual summoning. There is also the fact that Dan wasn't consistent with the glow, so I don't know if this is a retcon giving the glow a new meaning or not. It might just be an upgrade to the existing "summon what I have in a chest" spell, like Nanase's fairy avatar extras, but then again we've seen Pandora referring to Rhoda's abilities as separate spells, just seems odd to have someone get brand new spells with just a little extra while making original spells obsolete. At least we know that Susan did read her spellbook after getting home with her new dolls. Yeah it would. Yeah, and while Jerry didn't say "twin sister" he did say "long-lost sister", whether that mean that Susan's mom knew about Diane or not is unknown, if she did know, she kept that knowledge from Susan and probably for a reason. Dan's commentary might be related to the tweets as well: "If she had another missing daughter, her quest to find that daughter would be difficult to miss. According to Susan, anyway." Susan's has a strong belief about that her mother would tell her if she had a sister, or would raise hell in order to get custody of Diane if she caught wind of her existance. But if Mrs Pompoms did know about Diane and decided it was in everyone's best interests that Diane and Susan remain separated... Certainly wouldn't be the first time a parent has kept secrets about other family members.
