  1. This Day In History

Didn't want to go there with the MLK reference. I remember what happened one day later.
  2. This Day In History

Only a little... my... time machine's on the fritz, yeah, that's it. Speaking of time: April 3 in history: 1693 - John Harrison, inventor of the first really good marine clock, is born.
  3. This Day In History

April 4 in History: 1841--Old Tippecanoe dies after being President of the USA for just 1 month. Tyler Too takes over, giving the Whigs an early lead in the Unluckiest Major American Political Party Ever contest.

  5. Story Monday April 2 2018

I'm reserving judgement--this boat has flown so far off the tracks I expected that I want to see where it parks before I calculate the orbit.
  6. Story Monday March 26 2018

Mmmm, I think you're forgetting, or discounting at least, Pandora's contribution to this mess. Magus, betrayed, isolated and hopeless, was under the influence of a master manipulator when he caused Ellen's creation. Doesn't entirely excuse him, of course, but does give me a bit of sympathy for him. OK, so you're not forgetting.
  7. The Weather.

I should reread them--it's been decades--if only to see how well or badly they've aged.
  8. The Weather.

    Damned REMFs.
  9. The Weather.

In our defense, we were doing fine until Gunny got a paper cut while filling out the requisition for the antimatter snowblower.
  10. The Weather.

That would be us. Still snowing here; if anything, it's picked up a bit.
  11. The Weather.

The lady on the radio says the snow has stopped. So this is the Fake News I've been hearing so much about...
  12. The Weather.

Snow, followed by snow, then some frozen, fluffy precipitation. After that, snow. Just got back inside after the fifth iteration of shoveling since yesterday. At least the schools are off today, so the stuff hasn't been packed down by dozens of little feet. Last year, the weather gnomes kept predicting snow that would, at the last moment, veer off and hit Indianapolis, rather than Chicago. This year, their aim has been better. Bastards.
  13. The I-Can't-Remember-Which-Thread Thread

We had a bad case of glaciers. What's your excuse?

And Marijuana, don't forget the marijuana. That is silly, everyone knows the mountains are in the northern part, like Mount Prospect. (For those of you who don't live here, "Mount" Prospect is just barely out of the swamp.)
  15. The I-Can't-Remember-Which-Thread Thread

Exacerbated by the constant need to "feed the beast." The 24-hour news cycle creates a demand for something, anything to write or broadcast that never ends, while allowing less and less time for stories to properly gel. Also (this may be a function of my own age), it seems to me that today's journalists know less about the wide world than they used to. The jokes about east and west coast reporters being ignorant of "Flyover Country" (that portion of the United States the plane flies over between New York or DC and LA) have some real truth behind them.
  16. The Weather.

"Bomb" seems, sadly, topical. My digital thermometer is reading "0oF" (more or less), which is how I feel about heading over to the gym right now.
  17. Story, Friday January 5, 2018

Until Monday, at least, I'm going to pretend that the BOOM is Susan's Stun Hammer hitting Scarfy before he can pull the trigger. .50 caliber. Overkill much?
  18. Story, Friday December 8, 2017

Yeah, me too, the problem is being certain. Jamie (the hero of the Outlander books, has good reasons for his extra-legal killings, and while I'm listening to the books (we've been doing a lot of long-distance driving, lately) it doesn't bother me. It's only afterwards, when I'm thinking about it, that the mass of corpses (to be fair, most of them were trying to commit murder or worse just before they assumed room temp.) seems oppressive.
  19. Story, Friday December 8, 2017

Point , but we're the good guys.
  20. Story, Friday December 8, 2017

Mrs. Dorsai and I have been listening to the Outlander series of books as read by Davina Porter. Right now, a very young character is bragging about how his granda has killed two dozen redcoats., pretty that won't be the final accounting. Nevertheless, his granda is a good guy, and one of the major characters in the series. Susan's body count is two, with more likely coming. It's funny what we'll accept in fiction.

And then there were five. 16.7% down on the Aberration side, for those of you keeping stats.
  22. Story Wednesday December 6, 2017

Hi Folks, long time no see. Been too busy to keep up with either the forum or the comic for quite a while. Just got caught up with the comic, haven't had time for the forums. Forgive me if I've been anticipated by others. It looks like there are going to be more players on the board than either Sirleck or Magus anticipates--Sirleck's got six Aberrations coming, but Susan the Vampire Hunter can't be part of his calculations. Where is Voltaire? Will Terra make a belated reappearance? If she's an AU Tedd, she's probably been looking for Magus for the last three years. And there are tantalizing hints that Sirleck might not be entirely in control of Ellen. It seems I'm back just in time. Pass the popcorn.
  23. What Are You Ingesting?

Just polished off an elk burger. The restaurant in the parking lot of this con hotel has some interesting menu choices. Shame I've sworn off bourbon for the time being.
  24. What Are You Watching?

Old episodes of What's My Line? a 1950s-early sixties game show. Example here. I find this glimpse into the era when I was born soothing and charming, if slightly alien. The world has changed in so many ways. Do Mrs. Dorsai and I know how to party on a Saturday night or what?
  25. What are you reading right now?

Blogs, way too many blogs. Here's the only one worth sharing. Pretty short, very funny.
