Don't worry about that! Before the Sun becomes a white dwarf, it will grow into a red giant large enough to vaporize Mercury, Venus, Earth and maybe Mars too. In five or ten billion years or so. Long enough, perhaps, to abolish the electoral college.
  2. Story: Friday May 5, 2017

Yes, indeed, and I should live long enough to afford to buy one.
  3. Story: Friday May 5, 2017

Why is this Friday comic different from all other Friday comics? Duck if I know. But instead of chowing down some more bitter herbs, I'm going to write about it anyway. Dan pasted two panels twice each, but that's to get across the idea that Elliot is hesitating. The designs for the four really different panels all have different POVs and different backgrounds. Panel One We're looking up at Blonde Elliot sitting on her bed from low down in front of Ellen's bed, maybe at Brownie height. From Dan's commentary, the text box with the arrow pointing to...hmmm...wherever is making sure we know Blonde Elliot is Elliot. Plus, maybe, this is what the magic book is trying to tell Elliot? If you guesstimate where her nipples are and draw a line through them, they're several inches above the top of the headboard. Panel Two Whoa, that headboard got taller! Now the nipple line is below the top of the headboard. Maybe the headboard is trying to get a better look? A look in the book. Yes, that must be it. Wasn't tall enough to see inside the book in that first panel. We're looking from about the same level as the top of the headboard now. Elliot admits to himself he really doesn't need to transform. Panel Three Headboard still standing tall. POV is now from above, but not so far above that Dan can't get away without using that painful 3-point perspective. Elliot admits to himself he wants to transform. Panel Four Now playing inside Elliot's head. Panel Five Elliot finds an excuse to stop thinking about how much he likes being a girl. You know, sometimes. Panels Six and Seven That nosy headboard is out of the picture. Either Elliot has the keyboard in his lap or is controlling the computer using that cybernetic link Tedd installed recently. Wait, is that a computer monitor? It could be just a TV Elliot is zoning out on. But what happened to that big ol' heavy CRT-type TV Elliot needed to get the stand at Swedekea for? Elliot might be going through comments now, but she could also be stalling before looking at the comments. Which could explain why he hasn't deployed the keyboard and the mouse. Or maybe Dan forgot to put in a keyboard and/or mouse. Panel Eight Elliot finds an excuse to find another excuse. There is one factoid here: Elliot is looking at or is about to look at the channel his reviews with Susan are on, not googling for Cheerleadra or Elliot Dunkel references.

    You must kill at Hocus-Focus.

Actually getting back to the comic, I just noticed that Duck's cap has reversed colors in the last panel. I know what the rest of you guys are asking yourselves: Duck was in the last panel?

Actually it was more about Texas than the Expos. Much more. But seriously, why resurrect the Expo name? How many people even remember there was an Exposition in Montreal? In Montreal? Not that I'm speaking from any extensive knowledge of Montreal, Canada, or baseball. I don't know the infield fly rule, and I don't care that I don't. I think Montreal is in Quebec because, French name but I'd have to look it up. Winnipeg is in one of the prairie provinces?
  7. NP Wednesday May 03, 2017

That would be like the U.S.A. re-admitting Texas. Canada ain't that stupid.
  8. NP Wednesday May 03, 2017

So maybe you should switch to the Expos? Oops...sorry.
  9. NP Wednesday May 03, 2017

The question has to be asked: Is Duck's dad Sam Sheepdog?
  10. Story: Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017

Actually the movie, which is 50 years old now, was pulled from theaters after only a few weeks. Conspiracy? Well, J. Edgar Hoover didn't like it... But besides being screamingly funny, it's also scarily topical. Have you noticed that having every phone tapped all the time is what's happening now? Basically, we're living in J. Edgar's dream.

Which also means it's possible the DGB can track Elliot as long as he's either carrying or merged with his phone. Maybe even read Elliot's mind while he's merged with his phone. Have you ever watched The President's Analyst? You should.

I think Elliot could also get spammed from his cellphone. I read a science fiction story once where advertisers had figured out a way to put spam in your dreams.

Superman's powers aren't even consistent in Superman. He doesn't fly in the first issue, for instance. Back in either the very late 1950s or early 1950s, I had a Superman which explained that Clark Kent's glasses have lenses from made the canopy of the spaceship that brought him to Earth. Ordinary lenses kept melting. One thing is consistent, though: Superman's powers aren't magical. That would be Captain Marvel. SHAZAM! Bonus Trivia Why wasn't Clark Kent drafted in WWII? At the physical, he read the eye chart in the next room.

    Not for Ubermann.
  15. Story: Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017

I actually think that she's talking to someone else. And Elliot is looking if she's far enough so he can speak. First of all, you quoted me before I corrected the link from the first here. Second, my first impression was that half-girl-with-pigtail was talking to someone out-of-frame. Unlike the lady with three short lines in the first here, her eyes are not rolled toward Elliot. There's still no compelling reason to assume otherwise. Yet. But what makes me think that half-girl-with-pigtail actually might be important later is that she's drawn with some care, and in a strip where I think Dan was under more time pressure to meet his schedule thanks to the flooding. Just a grayed-out faceless figure or two would have indicated there were at least a few other people in the corridor, and would have been faster to draw. Everything else besides Elliot and Tedd is grayed out.
  16. Story: Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017

There's one bystander shown, the half-a-girl who's squeezed into the left side of the second panel. I wonder why she's there at all. Unless she's much taller, she can't be very far behind Elliot, and should be close enough to catch at least some of what Elliot and Tedd are saying. She doesn't have those three little lines as in here and here, but what we can see of her expression doesn't rule out surprise, and her head is turned so that her ear is showing. And look where Elliot's eye's are. To me, it looks like he just squeezed around that girl, and that she's sort of frozen in place, maybe because she also heard what Elliot and Tedd said in the first panel, where there wasn't enough space left for even half-a-girl and her three little lines. Maybe this isn't the first time we've seen her with Elliot? And besides that, what about the grassy knoll?

"Let's Call the Whole Thing Off", Shall We Dance, 1937, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers on friggin' roller skates. No, I haven't seen that movie. Thanks again , Wikipedia. How about more eyes? Say, in back of his head (check your mom for these.) Or, particularly if we're going for an Egyptian theme, a flying eye to scout out things at a distance. Horus has one of these. GURPS magic has a couple of standard spells along this line, Wizard's Eye and Invisible Wizard's Eye.
  18. Story: Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017

"Ocular enhancement" means upgraded eyes. Bigger eyes? Maybe, although Moperverse eyes have grown smaller over time. But I think it will have more to do with seeing things he couldn't see before. Perhaps including those zany spirit-plane lurkers? Perhaps the new spell will be useful at the mall tomorrow night...Although Cheerleadra as a Powerpuff Girl would be so sweet!!!
  19. Story: Monday May 1, 2017

Any enchantment would include beneficial enchantments or harmless ones. This could indeed account for Ellen. It would also imply that Abraham may have murdered other innocent beings created by the dewitchery diamond. Neither or both are necessarily true.
  20. Story: Monday May 1, 2017

You are assuming that Magus' personality counts as a curse.
  21. Story: Monday May 1, 2017

Wouldn't that split Magus into a female Magus and a male Magus?
  22. Story: Monday May 1, 2017

I think your logic is flawed here. When Ellen uses her beam to transform someone else, she is not herself transformed. All of Ellen's spells that we know of so far (two, really) affect only one party. As long as Elliot is the other party, I don't think Ellen being the one transformed would negate the conditions as far as we know. Whoever told Magus that Ellen using her magic on Elliot might have deliberately left out the qualifier about her copy magic. Or might not have known Ellen would get a copy spell. Or, of course, may have been wrong about Ellen's magic restoring Magus' body, or lying. And, yes, Ellen didn't get the copy spell until after the end of Sister II. But whoever set up Magus seems to have predicted his moves pretty well. It might have been Pandora, particularly considering that Pandora seemed to know that Nanase was going to get her guardian spell. Then again, Pandora didn't predict Magus would refuse to make Edward kill Abraham. One thing that attracts me to the copy spell here is that if Ellen zaps Elliot into a female, or zaps her in one of her many female forms, both of them will be female. I can't see this connecting with Magus getting back his male body. Unless, of course, Magus has been female all along.
  23. Story: Monday May 1, 2017

Hmmm. Would Ellen's using her copy spell on Elliot qualify as an opening for Magus to regain his body?
  24. Story: Monday May 1, 2017

Ellen has never copied anyone who wasn't female. Including Brownie. This doesn't mean Ellen couldn't but even if she can, the importance of her own identity as a female could raise issues. Come to think of it, it already has, at Grace's Birthday Party. BTW, I thought the reason why Ellen's zap of not-Tengu didn't work might have been that not-Tengu was male, but her copy spell has never shown a visible beam.
