The Saga of the New Music Computer
ProfessorTomoe replied to ProfessorTomoe's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Consider thyself lucky. My shrink uses some app that only works on a cell phone. It *barely* works on my model J. Bleaugh. -
Had sushi from one of The Blue Fish restaurants in the D/FW area tonight. Long story. Consumed a Volcano Roll (Scallops and special mayo sauce over a California roll) and a piece of Salmon Roe sushi. Still have a piece of Salmon Roe sushi left, along with a pair of Tai (Japanese Red Snapper) sushi uneaten. Those are in the fridge, waiting to be consumed for breakfast in the morning. Anyway, the long story: Mrs. Prof was out trapping a cat for T-N-R at this Blue Fish restaurant tonight. The cat was thought to be untrappable, because every night the chef sat out $100 of sushi/sashimi for it for dinner. Once Mrs. Prof finally got the chef to stop feeding it for a night, she proved the nay-sayers wrong. She caught the cat. In response, the chef let her order my sushi dinner for no charge. The chef will get his furry friend back as soon as his T-N-R surgery is done, in a couple of days.

The Saga of the New Music Computer

I've said that for years, but now I've been dragged kicking and screaming into the Age of the 5G Phone. Every doctor I go to is forcing me to switch to cell phone access, with several headed toward virtual visits via cell phone. My old 2017 model J phone just can't hack it anymore. -

The anticipation builds. UPS reports that my motherboard is one day away from delivery (Thursday Dec. 9th). I'm getting antsy. In unrelated news, specifically because it might be coming out of the house budget in installments, I might be getting a replacement for my old 2017 Samsung model J Android smart phone (which is not that smart anymore). Said replacement? A Google Pixel 6 Pro. I hope. Supposed to be a damned good phone this time around. I really hope it's in the cards for me. -

At This Time: Croutons and Bleu Cheese Dressing. The salad part of the equation went south on me, and I'm hungry anyway.

Turns out it was a Cabana Sampler Plate: a taco, an enchilada, and a flauta.
-
About to eat something from the local Taco Cabana eatery. No clue what Mrs. Prof brought home yet. Will advise.

I had a feeling you'd have fun with it.

My cat Baker loves to *bite* the cables leading to the power bricks for my UberLaptop. He gets scolded every time, before he electrocutes himself. He must picture himself a shark, going after one of the early Transatlantic Cables.

I was wondering! if someone was going to mention! this.

About to ingest Pizza Hut pizza soon. I ordered what amounts to a meat muffuletta pizza: pepperoni, Italian sausage, mushrooms, red onions, black and green olives, and extra cheese. Nom.

My thoughts exactly. They're not all here yet - they've been ordered, though. The motherboard is on its way. Soon, soon. Thank you! -

Well, I finished my first commission, and in conjunction with an eBay sale of some excess laptop RAM, it did indeed cover the remainder of my outstanding parts list. I have officially purchased the last item on the list, a MSI MPG Z690 EDGE WIFI DDR4 ATX LGA1700 Motherboard. Even got it at a $10 discount, thanks to a promo that came with the CPU cooler I bought. So, for the final time, here is my PCPartPicker list, with everything purchased: PCPartPicker Part List CPU: Intel Core i7-12700KF 3.6 GHz 12-Core Processor (Purchased For $465.46) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black 82.52 CFM CPU Cooler (Purchased For $119.02) Thermal Compound: ARCTIC MX-5 Incl. Those set me back $49.80, making the grand total spend $2754.26. This is the first time I've been able to go with truly top-of-the-line components for a build (everything but the video card, that is). I'm really looking forward to seeing how this beast functions. -

I tried to pull myself off of it a long time ago, back in 2005. Couldn't. Made me irritable as all hell. I fear for Mrs. Prof's sanity. -

Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required) (Content TV-MA)
ProfessorTomoe replied to ProfessorTomoe's topic in Off Topic Discussion
I think I just got the anesthetic out of my system yesterday. Then the Der Wienerschnitzel shake happened. Mrs. Prof bought me a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup shake from DW last night, to go with a hot dog. Said shake had side effects. I tried to drink it slow to avoid them, but I failed. I wound up taking, in this order, Imodium, simethicone, and Zofran. Knocked my ass flat out. I woke up just before 6am after a night of weird dreams. Back to the true subject of the thread, "Changing Medications." I had a talk with my new Psychiatrist yesterday. (My psychiatrist of more than 20 years retired over Thanksgiving.) She hit me with the rude awakening of a reduction in my lorazepam prescription, from 1/2 mg 4x a day to 1/2 a mg 3x a day. She warned me that I might have to come off of it, because the other psychiatrists at the practice don't prescribe it, and she might not be around all the time to prescribe it. Way to instill confidence in a patient's mind. She's definitely a screwball, and I'm not sure that I like her - I might seek a replacement. -

The procedure went well, although I am having a rough time shaking off the anesthetic. A nurse called to check on me. She said it could take a day to a day-and-a-half to get it all out of my system. If it's not all out of my system by tomorrow, I'm supposed to call my operating doctor (the pain management doctor). -

Clearance came, and my Rhizotomy is scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday) morning at 9:45 a.m. Central time. I'm off my blood thinner, as well as my Meloxicam (anti-inflammatory) pre-op. The doctor will be going in and killing the nerves on the right side of my lumbar spine this time around. He did the left side and my tailbone last time. I'm looking forward to some real relief. Again, please wish me luck. -

I wasn't kidding when I mentioned music commissions. Read my latest blog entry: https://dleejackson.lbjackson.com/2021/11/major-announcement-commissions-open/ I'm officially open to commissions, effective immediately. Already got one nibble that could just about pay off the remainder of the outstanding balance of parts. -
