  1. Comic for Wednesday, Apr 16, 2025

That explains why they are young women, but not why the stereotypical “French maid” costuming.
  2. Comic for Wednesday, Apr 16, 2025

The use of “maids” may stem from viewing them as “servants”, along with a desire to avoid an outward appearance of violence. Not that Voltaire doesn’t want violence, but he wants to keep up appearances.
  3. Comic for Monday, Apr 14, 2025

I think it’s more likely that he makes a corrupt bargain with them, because it would amuse him to stir up their side of the world by letting their “Royal Uryuom” plan succeed.
  4. All That Glitters

About half of the electric cars around here are Teslas, but the majority of those were from back before Musk took his hard right turn. I think that half of them are owned by current or former Tesla employees and their families. There are plenty of Nissan Leafs, Chevrolet Volt/Bolts, and even a few Mustang Mach-E’s and F-150 Lightnings around here. Maybe one car in five is electric, it seems.
  5. Discussion of Military, real or fictional

It should be noted that under war conditions, the theft of the vehicle and supplies would be considered valid as long as they weren’t pocketing somebody’s personal effects for themselves.
  6. All That Glitters

I live about six miles from the Fremont, California Tesla factory. We don’t have hurricanes here, but this is earthquake country. I got the solar panels because with the subsidies, it’s actually cheaper in the long run than paying the utility company—my loan payment on the solar/battery system is $160/month, which is comparable to what I was paying for electricity. As for the coins, yeah I get that the bullion ones are super-high purity, but I was responding to Darth Fluffy’s suggestion about buying up old silver US dimes and quarters from pre-1960. Silver coins made for general circulation as legal tender at face value are usually 90-92.5% silver by weight.
  7. All That Glitters

I have about 60 days worth of storable food and water for my entire household hanging around, and that is the majority of my disaster prep. I also have about a cord of firewood as well as solar panels and a battery for my house. Most silver coins are sterling (11 parts out of 12 is silver, with the rest mostly copper), but US silver coins were 90% silver.
  8. What Are You Listening To?

If the world has collapsed so much that even coins are no longer accepted, then people are more interested in bartering for usable goods directly than in any such thing as a universal medium of exchange.
  9. He’s not Pennywise—he’s Poundfoolish.
  10. Math

I read quite a few of his books as a child, but I did not know that he died before the end of the 20th century.
  11. Comic for Monday, Apr 7, 2025

As Humphrey Bogart said at the end of Casablanca, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
  12. Comic for Friday, Apr 4, 2025

It would be amusing if he were to insist upon being addressed as “Uncle Kevin”.
  13. Comic for Friday, Apr 4, 2025

Tedd has a driver’s license, but not a car. The Dunkel twins, Justin, and Susan are the only ones out of the main teenage cast who have their own cars (Jay apparently has one too, if she was using it for the pizza delivery job).
  14. Comic for Friday, Apr 4, 2025

Given that a typical three-bedroom home costs over a million in lots of major US cities these days, I am pretty sure that her savings are in the millions, if not the tens of millions. Pandora also had such accurate predictive abilities that it made her bored, so she would have easily been able to play the stock market. Or heck, just buying a few thousand Bitcoins back when that many would have been less than a week’s wages, and holding them until now.
  15. He probably saw that it was called “British” and assumed that it was a satellite of the UK.
  16. Comic for Wednesday, Apr 2, 2025

Oh, I never meant that they were cynically trying to exploit her—just that they care more about long-term consequences than about making a quick buck, as it were.
  17. Comic for Wednesday, Apr 2, 2025

Susan is golden in this page. As for getting an Immortal indebted to you, our cast are playing the long game—getting her as a reliable ally is much more valuable than a one-time boon.
  18. Things are going good, not annoying.

    Nyeh, what’s up, Doc?
  19. New Laptop Thread

And television was envisioned as a tool for remote education—apparently Philo Farnsworth did not even foresee that people would be mainly watching the exact same stuff that they were already watching at the cinema?
  20. Comic for Wednesday, Mar 26, 2025

So this, and the previous page, basically say that the text on copied spells are “written” by the Wizard who copies them, rather than by Magic Itself.
  21. Comic for Monday, Mar 24, 2025

I heard that they did in fact wreck several over the course of filming the show.
  22. Comic for Monday, Mar 24, 2025

    At least it isn’t Kalamazoo.
  23. Yes, the “sane” thing would be to cap the amount of money that can be received from such activity (e.g. no one may earn more than $10k per month).
  24. He’s been superseded by Luigi.
  25. Comic for Friday, Mar 21, 2025

Jay had her initial spell when Pandora awakened her, but she understandably doesn’t use it due to the associated trauma.
