I had a GM who would throw oversized dice at players when rolling for damage.  Called them "damage dice".

That's a little like combat.  Sort of.

Might help if you used metal dice with sharp edges, and yell, "Time to die!"

I had a 4" foam d20 that I would some time toss at players that made bad puns on the table.  I have some 2" dice that are hard plastic that I think about throwing at a fellow player some times. He gets on my nerves some time.

Some folks would say you are repeating yourself.

Personally, I think puns are well suited to D&D, because "The pun is mightier than the sword."

Strangely they were not put off by being threatened with being in The Book.

That was that other guy, /me.

I was referring to the phrase, 'bad pun'. Bear with me on this, maybe I only need a bit more context. How would you define 'good pun'?

(I have a working definition, if you are curious.)

Personally, I think good puns are where multiple meanings of the same word or two words that sound the same are used, and bad puns are where a word needs to be mangled or replaced by a similar-sounding word to make it work.

Of course I'm in the (seemingly unusual, if people's reactions are any indication) position of being fairly neutral when it comes to puns; I rarely find them funny, but except for the worst of what I consider "bad puns", they rarely bother me either.
