As for the foreground... Considering the way a certain part of Susan's anatomy is resting on top of Catalina's, I guess in Susan's daydream she and Catalina must have shrunk while next to each other (as opposed to the way things often change in dreams, going from one thing to another instantly, sometimes with the new status quo treated as having always been the case).

With as close as the two are (and the way their torsos are touching) I'd say it was erotic (or at least headed in that direction) even without taking into account Susan's feelings about physical contact.

The commentary tangentially bears this out. Why would she think of Rhoda unless her dream was going to a place that might hurt Rhoda if it were in real life?
