Here is.

Ah, young love.  And they really do have a lot to talk about.  Magic, I mean.  And what color to paint the walls of their cottage on the edge of town.

Hand holding would be a major thing for both of them.  We don't know about Jay, apart from the “doesn't like to be touched” thing, but Susan's avoidance of contact with damn near anything is legendary.

And what to name the dog. Cats.

Fixed that for you.

Of course, Susan does have issues with being trapped under a cat, but she really doesn't object that much, or she would, you know, just use her thumbs and move the cat out of the way.

Heading out To either go home or get pancakes somewhere. The odds are about equal.

I demand Jay and Susan eating pancakes in a mom-n-pop diner.

Granting that it is in another universe, and the cartoon folks involved are anything but normal, and yes, I get your cat bias, Explorer is delightful, and cats are very engaging, and I'd probably own a car before a dog, dogs tend to be higher daily maintenance, if you care for them properly, but 'lesbians own dogs' is the trope. I'm not going to swim upstream against a trope, man.

The women who live on the edge of town have cats.  That's just basic folklore.  We are talking about two women that will grow up to be “wise women”.

So, Susan's hair turned BLACK black, rather than the midnight blue black that she used to dye it. Interesting.

Baritones are generally housebroken and most can perform tricks beyond filling in for the second tenors.

Mrs. Dorsai is a tenor, so having a baritone (who could actually sing) in the house would probably cause random showtunes to occur at inopportune moments. I'll pass.

I'll take that.  Plus, of course, cats tend to tell you their name, not like dogs, where you tell them their name.  Granted, you need to listen well to find out what they are saying.  Adrian, for all his talents, couldn't do that, so “Mr. Fuzzball” was named “Max”

Plus, cats will carve their name in your skin with your own blood if you don't listen. Nice kitty!

Yeah, but the font they use isn't normally readable by humans without a lot of training.

As Humphrey Bogart said at the end of Casablanca, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

One that is way overdue for both of them.  We know about Susan's relationship issues, and we can imagine Jay's.  We also know that Susan was fantasizing about being able to cuddle with Jay.

I did some googling, while waiting on a phone call.  Found this

According to the 2018 Autostraddle Lesbian Stereotypes Survey, most lesbians own cats. Conversely, the survey found that gay women aren’t more likely to own a dog than the average heterosexual. In fact, lesbians are more likely to own cats and reptiles than our straight friends.

Good article.

I've never heard of the survey, but then again, I'm not in their demographic, and will never be AFAICT.

First, to the thread topic, 1.) A trope does not have to coincide with fact, and the article hints that the trope exists, 2.) still, I think "And what to name the dog" may be leaping to conclusions. To be fair, both cats and dogs leap well, though it is generally more associated with cats.

Some points of fact, though, 'not generally both' was a bit of a surprise, though I guess I can see that, not sure that's specifically a lesbian thing, seems most folks would tend toward one or the other.

But she makes a bigger point that for a kid, a dog is a better pet because a dog is more of an interactive companion. As nominal adults, we want low fuss passive fur baby companions; a cat who will 'chase the red dot' when it's available is interactive enough. A kid will generally do better with a highly playful companion (s)he can grow up with, if the parental unit is willing to put in the maintenance or train the kid to do it.

Also, not said, both have certain health risks for their human associates, but due to commonly carrying toxoplasmosis acquired from their prey, cats are more of a health risk (Explorer, being an indoor cat, and you don't seem to have a mouse problem, is probably not, unless she's had it from the barn days). Toxoplasmosis is really bad news, especially for pregnant ladies, 'Don't even handle the litter box!', and some lesbians do chose to get pregnant.

The 'lesbians prefer reptiles' is bizarre. Reptiles are not actual pets, they are animal objects that you take care of. Yes, there are sort of exceptions, but in general, a reptile will not bond with you. I don't want to hear 'What do we name the python?'

Interesting for not being mentioned are birds, with can be amusing companions.

Back in the early days of my bipolar diagnoses and other brain weirdness, I was tested for that.  Didn't have it.  My shrink sort of wondered why I wanted the test, given that my treatment would be the same regardless.
