  1. EGS Strip Slaying

I think I've only done one strip slay in my life, so I guess I should repost it: I should really create more slays, but I lack good ideas. I'm loving all of yours, though! Some of them are very inventive :3
  2. What's behind Phill?

"We aren't up w......." is what I thought, though "we fill'r up while you wait" might make more sense. There's a good chance that that guess is accurate, and if so, in the words of Strider: DAVE: thats a hell of a mystery no one thought was a mystery and didnt even really need solving DAVE: but damn if it didnt just get solved so nice work
  3. NP, Friday April 22, 2016

"It's not like video games are constantly pushing the boundaries of what's acceptable to put in them, right? " ... *chuckles*
  4. Deepart.io

It looks like there is a face in the wing and I'm not even sure how it even got there. I don't even know where to begin for where John's face is concerned. Italics. So yeah, I guess so.
  5. Deepart.io

Here it is: If I can give one tip:Try to make sure that both images a large variation in color. Trying to render a picture in this style created a very dirty-looking picture. I still have very little success in creating pretty things, El Goonish Shive-related or not.
  6. Story Friday April 15, 2016

I didn't expect this guy still being alive, haha. It's somewhat funny to see something Dan established years ago suddenly pop up again. It's only a matter of time until Lord Ted will return, I tell you! XP I'm looking forward to how the plot will move on.
  7. Is EGS:NP becoming too important?

This is not entirely on topic, but based on the order in which all these events take place, I'd love to see somekind of graph for these two days of what happens when. It is confusing enough that Dan makes use of both the main comic and NP to tell the story, but I honestly don't even know anymore when any arc is taking place comparatively to the other arcs. It's been a while since I've done a re-read, after all...
  8. A new Which EGS Character Are You quiz

It needs to be well balanced. It's fine not to give a score on every question for every character, but your chance of randomly getting any character should be approximately equal, or so I would feel. It would take some math... Actually, I don't even know if that's a rule for this kind of thing - that's really just the game design-aficionado in me talking.
  9. Required Reading?

If you want to get into webcomics in particular, it might be valuable to read Scott McCloud's Reinventing Comics. I mean, I haven't even read the book myself yet (I'm planning to!), and it's rather outdated, but it might get you thinking about the possibilities of the infinite canvas and all that. I've read his I Can't Stop Thinking webcomic blog and I really enjoyed it. ... I only just now noticed that you had already brought up McCloud and he simply didn't pop up in my search due to a typo. Oh well. I'm just a bit annoyed at how few of these books are particularly aimed at webcomics, as it's a difference I think is vital. I'm actually not interested at all in comics, but webcomics as a medium really fascinates me. It's an entirely new thing
  10. A new Which EGS Character Are You quiz

This could be worth a question all on its own, though I would prefer it if the question wasn't too straight forward. "What is your favorite kind of game?" "Trading card game" "Ultra violent game" - that would be boring. But maybe we can do something with this?
  11. A new Which EGS Character Are You quiz

Perhaps a good question would be how good a person is at games of skill. Characters such as Tensaided and George would clearly fall under that category, while Sarah has shown to have a talent for games (based on how she was able to win one round against one of the former, my memory is failing me). We have quite some content where Elliot and Ted are playing video games. I'd bet my money on Grace being supernaturally good at any game (and we know she loves video games). Except... I don't really know any characters that are notably bad at games of any kind. I've never seen Ed Verres "play", but I have a hard time imagining him sucking at games. Same goes with Greg. Thoughts? For these two aspects, I'd say Sarah and Diane respectively. I think Sarah would put more value in "gracefulness" than in raw beauty. Also, I like to imagine Diane as the kind of person that views feeling sad as more of a weakness and a very unpleasant feeling. Honestly, this could also go for Susan.
  12. Is EGS:NP becoming too important?

This is an almost Homestuck-y way of dealing with archive readers and I really love it. This would require some change in site layout, perhaps, as some "in-between" page may not be pleasant, but if Dan could direct new readers to the right pages at the right time, this whole issue becomes a lot less big.
  13. Story: Friday April 8, 2016

Susan's mother may not have any reason to to tell her now - she wouldn't know about the vampire-issue, would she?
  14. Poll: Your Favourite Main Character

I used to relate very strongly to Justin (which is why I eventually voted for him), though now, it is incredibly difficult to make a choice. I was tempted to vote for Susan... as well as Tedd for obvious reasons and Grace and Nanase and... Oh boy, I like all Shive characters.... I disagree with the original post: the fact that all the characters are as unique as they are is the reason why it would be impossible to ever pick a favorite. Instead, i'd rather analyses and understand each and every one completely because they are all incredibly interesting and great.
  15. Is EGS:NP becoming too important?

I think the way Dan is handling this is especially useful for webcomics. It can be difficult to follow multiple storylines simultaneously if you only get a short update on one each two days and there are multiple of them. Running them simultaneously yet separate, using an entirely different style, allows a reader to keep better track of what is happening. Though Rain LGBT is getting away with the former most of the time in my opinion, so I suppose it really depends on how interested the reader is in the story? Dan does "meanwhile" style things plenty anyway. The more important reason Dan may be doing this, however, is because the webcomic form allows him to. As an independent comics creator, it would be difficult to run two different comics simultaneously in one book without going back and forth temporally. On his website, Dan can run three series simultaneously and is only limited by his own ability to finish the pages. Or something like that, I haven't exactly thought this post through
  16. Is EGS:NP becoming too important?

I was worried about this when "Question Mark" was coming out. To compare: I recently read multiple Pixie Trix comics, and the cross-over between Eerie Cuties and the spin-off comic Magic Chicks was very confusing. I just read through it anyway, of course, as that is what one does with a webcomic they generally enjoy, but it was a bit unpleasant as it felt both as spoilers for the other webcomic I hadn't read yet, and I wasn't seeing the full picture. But you definitely can read one webcomic and not the other, and the same goes for El Goonish Shive. It's too bad that new readers in the future probably won't be able to discover Sarah's abilities with the same pace as we could, but I don't think it will ruin later story arcs. I hope not, anyway... Regarding the in-universe time - I'm sure it could have been possible for Dan to tell a similar story while spreading out the events some more. Few of these arcs needed to take place in the same two days, but I understand why he made that choice and I respect that But yeah, I hope Dan can keep the most important canon events in the main webcomic for ease of archive binges...
  17. Story: Friday April 8, 2016

I'm a bit confused - I was under the impression that it is more common for only signing up one half of a pair of twins for adoption, keeping one of the two children for yourself. At least, I can imagine parents thinking "we didn't sign up for this" when they are told they will have twins.
  18. We Begin Anew!

I'm a bit late (like, a month or so), but I guess I've never been incredibly active here anyway ^_^; I'm very glad to see the forum is back online and I honestly like the new graphical style. I'm alright with starting over too. Just glad I have somewhere to discuss webcomics again :3
