I think Tedd mentioning Sarah were hints that Tedd used to have a crush on her. He was basically indirectly calling her sexy. Having crush is actually good reason to NOT wanting to use X-ray to see her naked. See, when he sees her as potential partner/girlfriend, he is worried about stuff like breaking her trust ; whereas random person on street is, well, random, noone to care about, as anonymous as those models in magazines, and therefore safe to look at.
  2. Story, Wednesday July 26, 2017

It would be enough that noone would be able to find out HOW they are special. The fact Tedd had hard time disabling the X-ray functionality suggests they are hard to modify and possibly hard to disassemble and study as well. Well ... actually, there is backscatter X-ray ... The glasses likely use same encryption technology the phones they talk about secret stuff with do. The glasses ARE sensitive no matter if magic or technology, and he DID let Tedd take them out of house. If anything, them being magic might lower the chance anyone would be able to find how they work. He just said he didn't used them on SARAH Generally, it's possible he didn't used them in school but used them on adults on street. Tedd may be seer and just NOT KNOW ABOUT IT. Because with Uryuom being in open he didn't get the opportunity to work on TF gun, possibly ... Well ... he DID know Edward Verres, obviously ... Well, if Nanase isn't in US ... their family might've moved elsewhere, possibly with Noriko or back to Japan. If Shade Tail was corrupting Lord Tedd, as Nioi claimed he is, and convinced him to kill his alternate versions. Then Shade Tail and Lord Tedd would have to know each other before Grace even saw the news article about Tedd and the goo, because, as you said Lord Tedd sent the goo that caused Grace to notice Tedd. You forgot that the time in those two universes don't need to be synced. General Shade Tail, of course. Not the kind of right choices you have in mind, maybe, but ... Alternatively, Shade Tail might genuinely not understand how can one be superior and NOT be similar to Damien. Instead of corrupting him deliberately, he might corrupt him just by defining what is "normal" ... similarly how Elliot didn't deliberately shown Tedd the "right way" but just by being around pointed his moral compass correctly. Note that Shade Tail would have similar childhood as Grace and therefore big gaps in knowledge. And likely less reasons to attempt to fill those gaps.

Stupid. They could just have escaped through that CRACK IN THE EVENT HORIZON. ESCAPE? There is no glory in escape.
  4. Story Friday July 21, 2017

Raw anything is generally risky because of diseases. Of course, vampires don't need to worry about that, but all those ceremonial people should be careful about that. (Surprisingly, fruits and vegetables are exception.)
  5. NP Monday July 24, 2017

Well the secrecy certainly helped, but if significant variations would be common someone would notice. It doesn't mean there are none - just that normally the difference is small enough to be explainable by something else.

It was specifically said that Ellen CANT transform whole planet, so no Little Doctor.
  7. NP: Friday, July 28th, 2017

Yes, where is rest of explanations? ... Ellen still can't fly, right? Leaping out of window might be unhealthy for her. Although it worked last time.

I have a collection of links to specific pages of webcomics... currently at 75 pages from 20 different comics. I have collections for several specific webcomics, but Grrl Power is not one of them. However, you reminded me that neither is Girl Genius and I still have this ... and I didn't looked at this comics for years ... and this one ... ok. Adding this Grrl Power to those.

A certain group of female superheroes agrees. Exactly (and by "exactly", I mean I considered searching for this image as illustration but then decided it would take me too much time to be worth it).
  10. Story Monday July 24, 2017

What makes you think British and French negotiators would be saner without US? Also, maybe without US, they would be the side which LOST. That would be nice, but again, how would that be connected to Emperor Norton? Also, yes ... I did already read something where Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor was like god's answer to someone in Europe asking for help. Hitler lost Second World War in Pearl Harbor despite not being anywhere near it. And finally, how would Emperor Norton prevent Soviet Union? Stalin was just as dangerous as Hitler ; if Hitler wouldn't get to power, maybe the war would be with Russia. (Generally, the tension was there; if the wars wouldn't happened like they did, different triggers would cause different wars).
  11. Story, Wednesday July 26, 2017

It's tough to say whether the glasses that the guard used on Wolf were the same kind that Tedd has, but the guard's glasses were being used to confirm Wolf's identity, not just to see if he was hiding any weapons, we've had no evidence that Tedd's glasses could also do that. The main sticking point with me though, is would Edward let Tedd take those glasses to school if they had any magical properties? I guess the x-ray feature alone should have made Edward worry about misuse, but if that kind of technology was already known to the public then there wouldn't be need to keep it secret, magic however... Noone except her physic professor objected that Nanase is floating in her school. Tedd AND ELLIOT were free to read top secret documents. And, obviously, TF gun. Edward was obviously not worried about Tedd endangering national security. And I think those glasses are standard issue similar to wands. Why else would Edward be giving Tedd special glasses with X-ray vision? To support his pervert side? Because he was worried about concealed weapons in school? No, I think those are standard glasses and Edward either wanted to give them to Tedd for some other abilities (recording?) or just had them home and gave them to Tedd for aesthetic purposes. Regarding Wolf's identity, either we overlook that function or, quite possibly, the glasses Tedd has are actually older model. And, again, actuall X-ray is NOT SEXY. Any sexy "X-ray" option must be something magical. ... actually needed to read the page twice before noticing the age. Thanks for reference. Ok, in age 13, it might be possible, but still unlikely. Then he isn't much observant, considering TF gun and any related technology can't change clothes. Although, maybe he really isn't much observant. Tedd might be only seer VOLTAIRE knows of. Or at least only eligible. Considering the watches work, you can obviously made them from common material by mass production ... BUT maybe it's not just bad luck they have no "battery". Wand which can store not only the spell but also energy for them might require not only better materials, but possibly some specific way to be made which makes harder to mass produce them. What did you think the "more dangerous rarity" means? I think that the idea is the seer will only be able to do the second purpose if he thinks he is doing something much less important. For example, he might think he's just discovering new rules but in reality he is creating them (or, like, finalizing their shape). I would think that yes, Immortals have alternate versions. They may be able to travel between universes but not easily. Note that the space whales were NOT travelling between universes and the "internet connection" to Beta Tedd's universe was something he developed and only worked for short time. Each universe DEFINITELY has not only it's own Will of Magic, but likely several of them (or one, but with different objectives for different parts of universe). Jeremy might be interesting but definitely not THAT interesting. Yes. Grace started taking Damian apart as well, but she didn't FINISHED it. Shade Tail DID. Although the self-destruction might happened anyway. It's also possible that someone died for other reason - like, maybe Ellen didn't happened in that universe, Shade Tail was only accompanied by Nanase and Nanase was killed by Vlad. There are lot of people who didn't experienced any magic hijinks in EGS's main universe as well. I wouldn't conclude there is no magic in Second Life just because Ellen didn't noticed it. I don't think Lord Tedd's world had magic-based class system before Lord Tedd happened ... Also, Nanase MIGHT be wizard. She definitely has wizards between her ancestors. It was tumblr.
  12. Story Monday July 24, 2017

We would have enjoyed one and a half centuries of peace and prosperity by now if only we had accepted his benevolent rule back then. Also, everyone in US would be talking Japan, which anime fans definitely consider positive, right?
  13. NP Monday July 24, 2017

Distributed where? Rest of Moperville? The amount of ambient magic anywhere else in world is not big enough to influence tactic. That's obvious from the fact NOONE NOTICED how it changed in Moperville: noone is creating maps where the ambient energy is higher, noone is testing for changes ... most likely, it's because outside Moperville, it doesn't matter.

So another modifier ... ... I like this explanation storylines, and I think we still have questions, but Goonmanji 2 might also end up interesting ... and Dan needs his vacation
  15. Story, Wednesday July 26, 2017

But how many years ago was it way premature? Could we be getting close to when it is no longer premature? Maybe, but I would expect that next part of story related to Lord Tedd would be something smaller than General Shade Tail visiting ... and it will be AFTER the matters with Pandora and Voltaire would be finished. Yes, there likely IS a way to make magitech devices and maybe reverse engineering Uryuom tech can really help you with such research. However, I don't think that Uryuom tech and Earth magitech can mix and Tedd sort of lacked anything helping him "bootstrap" the experiments - as I said, I suppose anyone else doing similar research would need a wand for creating wands or something similar. Of course, Edward might not realize that. The Light and Dark sides of the Force implies absolute morality. Lot of people would want absolute morality to exist, but I find more likely morality is principally relative ... and what's more important, EGS seem to have more complicated view on morality too, considering there is no Light side mentioned in Immortal agreements. On the other hand, the bit about glow incidents being related to second purpose is possible. It would explain why Dan didn't explained it yet ... I was specifically talking about spell which would be easier to use BECAUSE it would have options more limited. Actually, Nanase MIGHT get it correctly as well if she wouldn't hit the limit of how tall the spell can make her. I think you give Tedd too much credit, yeah Tedd should have questioned it more, but remember, he didn't like the idea that his parents might have been wrong about him, so he tried to think up other ways to justify how he could do certain things. I think that's more like handicap than bonus. That without this idea, he would start questioning it sooner. I don't know for certain if the glasses were magically made or just high-tech, everyone thought they let him analyze magic but even he admitted that they only made him look scientific(even Dan states in the commentary that the glasses were an intentional misdirection), so... I think at this point... The glasses didn't helped him to see magic ; however, their X-ray vision likely was more magic than science, given that regular X-ray isn't really that much sexy. This definitely doesn't look like X-ray. That's what I mean by fine tuning, the watches that have specific forms and such would have a lot of details that Tedd would code in by computer and transfer to the glove, and then once those are imbued into the watch would allow the user to just think "Grace 1", rather than having to actually picture what Grace looks like. There are three places where the specific form could come from. One, computer by the glove. Two, Tedd picturing it when creating the wand/watches. Three, caster picturing it. Plus combinations of course. I think that different resize spells use different method to change size and the limits are real limits of methods Tedd knows of. Rhoda is using different method, which can have more extreme results. Also, tastes sweet. Agree - and while I think Lord Tedd DOES have scanner, it's big machine, not portable device. I'm not so certain. The people who created Grace and Vladia didn't use a TFG on them to stabilize their transformations. Either they didn't know about the effect it would have, or they didn't have access to a CMD to use on them. The group that made General Shade Tail may have had similar limitations; whoever had a CMD available may have chosen to take it off-planet or destroy it rather than allow it to fall into his hands. It was sort of same group so yes they likely didn't have CMD. HOWEVER, I presume Lord Tedd does have TF gun and used it on General Shade Tail. Damien attacked when Tedd was how much, four? Six? Would be quite accomplishment for Lord Tedd to replace him. He looks human, therefore he had family. Question is if they are still alive ... and if not, how long ago they died.
  16. Story Friday July 21, 2017

That does sound interesting. Unfortunately, I don't have enough time to read all interesting books. I keep it on list, but I'm afraid Harry Dresden is higher. The fact neither was translated is bit of handicap ...
  17. NP Monday July 24, 2017

I don't think you can cast spell like that on someone else. You can, of course, lend him the wand and let him cast it. Ah, but Ellen and Nanase proved that the Guardian can choose to use ambient magic. Plus, Tedd may be able to choose how much power the wand gives to the Guardian it creates. Doesn't necessary mean you can make spell which will switch to ambient magic "on start". If yes, that would definitely be an OP ability. Although ... it would just be OP in places with unnaturally high ambient magic, so maybe not real problem?
  18. Story, Wednesday July 26, 2017

Very good question. His glowing is obviously somehow linked to his seer abilities, but it seems that Dan is waiting for something before describing what EXACTLY it is. I was commenting that it is related to him realizing something, but this last case doesn't really fit ... The reason I referenced Elliot and his morphs was that it's not so much the spells involved that are the issue, but the person trying to use the spells, The spells Tedd put on the watch for the dynamic morphs would have been just fine, but the tinkering to get the spells to create specific results plus the fact that the user would need to concentrate well enough to make sure the result they want is what they get. Actually, the transformation spell on watches likely ARE based on Elliot's spells and seems they shared their weakness - meaning, they are very generic but hard to get right. I'm sure Tedd will try it out just because, but I don't take what he said in the last panel as uncertainty that he actually did it. He was likely referencing what he said earlier about things he did working right the first time. Whether Tedd perceived Pandora's "You did it!" as surprise or encouragement, his response to that would sound like "Yeah, we've already established that it's natural for me". And it's not just the glove, Tedd mentioned previously that he would make intuitive leaps that kept turning out to be right when he was researching magic. My first idea when reading it was if he suspect Pandora somehow helped him to encourage him. Yes. I think that Whales are just that hard to see, on top of rarely staying around humans for long. Any seer which would do as much research as Tedd would start questioning how it's possible he's THAT good in it ... but most seers are not doing that much research. If his glasses are magic and not technology, maybe he used THAT knowledge ... It also connects him with computer. Without the glove, he would need to remember everything about the spell he is putting in watches. With glove, he can easily have megabytes of informations prepared. Just because it's feeding Tedd with gigantic amount of energy (maybe) doesn't mean it's dangerous for him. Also yes totally good idea to ask Pandora about the whales. He likely reports everything, but also likely isn't thinking about it much. I was speculating that there is some researcher who is trying to duplicate Tedd's work and doesn't know why it's so hard ... or, maybe everything goes on file and noone is really looking at it yet ... Edward may not be "scientist", he might not realize how weird what Tedd is doing is and instead assume that it's basically what other researchers are doing, but other researchers are using wand-creating wands and similar stuff. Specifically about glove ... I think he knows about glove and thinks Tedd was right when he said it's technology. Apparently, noone tried to verify it yet. He may not know about the gauntlet, however. Very important for General Shade Tail you mean, right? He certainly does, because Lespuko blood was planned part of the project and Lord Tedd likely also has TF gun. However, I don't think he will be visiting anytime soon. Remember, Lord Tedd story arc was waaay premature to start.
  19. Story Friday July 21, 2017

In Hellsing, vampires can drink any blood ... but only virgin will change in vampire when killed by one. Read my post above about breaking rules. You can break ONE rule while establishing your setting and your readers will happily go along. Or, at least break a genre-defined set of rules. But for every rule you break BEYOND that, you weaken your story because the readers will start to realise that you haven't done your work and that you are just pulling stuff out of your rectal orifice. Do it enough -- and Twilight has done it to an immense degree -- and all you have left is drivel. You can break every rule if you fix them afterwards - meaning, replace with other rules. You don't need to fix rules broken by genre if you use usual genre replacements. But specifically vampires are rarely exactly identical ... case in point, EGS. Or see tvtropes. Regardless, Stephenie Meyer managed to break so many rules it's questionable if she shouldn't renamed her monsters ... It's when you break a rule and not replace it when readers realize your story is weak and unsupported.
  20. NP Monday July 24, 2017

The burnout could still blind Tedd's ability to perceive magic or crash his ability to create wands, watches, etc. Tedd HAS magic. LOT of it. And given how much energy Guardian Form takes, someone without own magic would likely be able to only keep it for few minutes. (Also, it's wand, not want)
  21. Story Friday July 21, 2017

I don't think it was supposed to be transfusion ... but in any case, making the mother drink it would definitely accomplish nothing. It's not like blood contains some valuable component which could be digested and then transferred to child ... well, maybe except iron, but I doubt drinking blood would be that effective in curing iron deficiency.
  22. NP Monday July 24, 2017

I think that besides being vague, it makes sense that simpler spells are easier to analyze. Otherwise, he may be able to see how various parts of the spell works and still not be able to put it together - or, when put together, the restrictions of Guardian form will reappear no matter how much will the seer try to edit them out.
  23. Story Monday July 24, 2017

Not really. He was home on Sunday; now it's Friday. If Voltaire is pulling strings on Leifeld and/or Arthur, quite possible to set up. Or it could be good-old-fashioned coincidence; Edward himself has seen a lot of that. We can be pretty sure Edward can't teleport or fly or he wouldn't have missed the battle with Not-Tengu. He could just be in Washington, staying overnight because his flight is on Saturday morning. Or maybe he's in Europe meeting with someone he doesn't want to talk to Tedd about yet.. I meant that when he returns home, he will certainly take steps to liberate Tedd if they do something to him meanwhile. Possibly. However, it's also quite possible that Adrian was the one who taught magic to Noriko and Edward. Maybe even Nanase's mom, too. That's not only possible that's almost certain. Fashion counts as a cultural reference. I meant the LOTR.
  24. Story Monday July 24, 2017

Eight digits; dinosaurs have been gone for around 65,000,000 years, unless you count birds. You definitely SHOULD count birds as dinosaurs, but I wouldn't say they rule the earth. So yes, eight digits. It would need to be LONG assignment if it would be supposed to help with this. Historians do use different years here, but none of them use "fall of the Roman Empire" to refer to the Holy Roman Empire. The traditional date for the founding of the Holy Roman Empire is the crowning of Charlemagne (AKA Karl der Grosse) on Christmas Day, 800. However, the title really lost its meaning soon after the death of Charlemagne, and wasn't really revived until Otto I in 962. It was formally dissolved at Napoleon's pleasure in 1806, although the Austrian Hapsburgs managed to hold on to and even expand what became the Austro-Hungarian Empire up until 1920. Possibly marrying yet another Hapsburg princess to Napoleon had something to do with it, although the previous Hapsburg marriage to a French Monarch was cut sort (a head short). It's an old saw that the empire was neither holy, nor Roman, nor an empire. Oh, right, the first Roman Empire wasn't just holy. But wait, you mean Holy Roman Empire was still a thing just hundred years ago? Adrian Raven is definitely older than THAT. Yeah, Pandora stated that Adrian was suppose to train him, likely in the same way he trained Edward and Noriko, but in the flashback Adrian states "He might never be you're apprentice, but Tedd will always be your son", so Adrian would train Tedd how to use magic and other stuff but Noriko would give him the field experience. Possibly the idea was that Noriko tries to teach him, finds out she don't know how and then let Adrian to do it. I dunno if it's just her stretching as she reformed herself, but in the panel where she states how long she napped, she could have been using a spell to determine the date and how much time had passed, maybe something similar to Abraham's "Modern Knowledge" spell? Possibly. Or she looked at stars. I think you can determine exact time just by looking at pulsars. (Yes) If you can see X-rays, I mean. It also didn't give him culture references. But it allowed him to avoid being killed by car and likely actually get from UK to US, so I would consider it useful.
  25. Story Friday July 21, 2017

I would think that her attacking whoever would try to do the autopsy would confirm vampire attack as cause of death.
