Yes ; which was one of the options when we speculated about it. I imagine Ted could craft a version that did that but I'm not sure someone can just learn to do that with their own spell. Well ... Susan was able to get fairy spell by combining Nanase's fairy with her magic, so maybe it would be possible to get such effect by combining the contagious transformation with some other spell which has it's own intended use ... If Tedd sees Guardian spell, he would likely be unable to learn everything it does at once because it's doing so much ...
  2. Story Friday July 21, 2017

I think Dracula did quite a bit of stalking of his own. Also, he wasn't exactly catching fire when on sun. Of course, the difference is that Lucy was NOT supposed to be someone reader will identify with. Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There ignores quite lot of very basic physical laws and is still great piece of literature. As long as your work is self-consistent and you don't pretend it's happening in our world you can ignore almost anything. But lot of writers basically write story as it would happen in our world until they need to ignore something and don't realize the first part of story wouldn't work if they make that change ... ... also, lot of writers think that making story where they ignore physical laws of our world is easier. No, it's harder.
  3. Story Monday July 24, 2017

He joked in not exactly natural way. I'm still not sure he processed it safely. ... without any obvious external source of time information, yes. Yes - if you use "fall of Roman Empire" to determine age, you might end up being few years off, as historians might consider different year than you would. But you wouldn't be THAT much off. I'm not sure ANY of Edward's friends would be able to get to Voltaire faster than Pandora. I'm not sure Dan would actually destroy Voltaire and Sirleck. He almost let Damien survive. Disney? Surprising. Although it get less surprising if you add it was Jafar saying it. Good old times of real villains in Disney ... before Maleficent. There is also the bit about Discworld elves being VERY good at keeping people alive. (No, that was NOT supposed to be comforting.) I think there would be lot of people objecting to it. Starting with Assistant Director Liefeld, Arthur Arthur, Edward Verres and Adrian Raven. But I guess it still can happen
  4. Story Monday July 24, 2017

Rather like the centuries when all science and truth was judged by whether it agreed with the surviving works of the Ancient World. If your views conflicted with Aristotle's, it was obvious who was the wiser between you and thus who must be right. That possibly too (it's not in conflict). This was nicely described in Pratchett's books: the difference between scientists and philosopher is that philosopher is unhappy when he finds something suggesting his teacher was wrong. The scientist would give a hand for proof that some authority is wrong. She's seen it all before, thousands of times. Well, okay, Tedd and the TFG might even be able to come up with something to surprise her, but she lived through eras when there was a reason for all the jokes about sheep, so probably not shock or dismay.... This explanation is true and totally logical and still fails to make it less embarrassing. She didn't need to HEAR it. She correctly predicted Tedd would want to help transgender people IN OCTOBER, months before Tedd found what transgender is. That's nice theory, except 1) she remembered the years just fine for first 200 years 2) you need to remember just ONE event to recompute your age anytime later, and even if she mostly hanged around regular folks she would notice something historically significant at least ONCE. For one, it would be VERY hard to miss fall of Roman Empire, yes. Or discovery of New World. He MIGHT also be too tired - or most likely, little of each.
  5. Story Monday July 24, 2017

Yes. And maybe we get even more exposition in Wednesday? You do realize that in last reset seers didn't had internet to publish their findings on? Silencing seers is wasteful ; if you somehow got in position to be ABLE to do something against seer, who obviously adapted fastest, the logical strategy is to make sure only people you like get the opportunity to read what that seer wrote. Most likely, after the seers described what they could and died by old age, other people though that the description is complete and there is no need to add anything to it. I wonder if it's more the fact that he doesn't know much about Pandora to feel comfortable talking about it, despite the fact that she knows a fair bit about him, especially enough to know the spell would be suited for him. To Tedd Pandora is someone he just met and she just mentioned a subject that he's only told close friends about and hasn't been able to talk to his dad about it. So I think the blush is more out of embarrassment maybe? The fact she knows a lot about him makes it MORE embarrassing. (And that's nothing about the embarrassing when he realize she could observe him ANYTIME). Not sure what is the point of recording that spell, but maybe it IS just to start with the easiest stuff ... Makes sense. Although I actually think main reason Dan doesn't want to specify how old Pandora is is that he is afraid he will wrote something and historians among us would tell him he's totally wrong. He doesn't KNOW how old Pandora is and is not interested in researching history to place those events.
  6. Story Friday July 21, 2017

Hmmmm ... Cerulean Robin's egg Sapphire Navy ... yes, seems distinct. Still, I would think they WERE able to distinguish more colors, just didn't have names for them so it was just red, little lighter red, even lighter red ... and you definitely shouldn't judge their ability to see colors based on poet who might be blind and even if he wasn't wouldn't let that detail get into way when writing. First hit on google (on sky is bronze) has interesting comments about the topic under the article. You may also look at how Greek statues looked when fresh. This, however, is true. I found very fascinating that Japanese are unable to distinguish L and R, but I totally believe it.
  7. Story Friday July 21, 2017

I think the fairy actually explodes stronger. On the other hand, Adrian has whole murder of those crows. That's assuming murder shroud is Adrian's favourite offensive spell or something (which is possible, but not confirmed). Adrian likely knows lot of spells and there was no need to show Edward all of them. Note also that while Edward definitely knows about Susan's fairy, he may not be aware it explodes when unsummoned. We saw him cast a detection/identification spell on Mild Mannered Elliot. Which was pretty rare occasion. Obviously when he was writing the Rorschach note Tedd wasn't around. The charts, however, are likely something Tedd would be able to replicate. I didn't say Tedd never saw Edward cast a spell. It's just that these two might be only ones Edward casted in house.
  8. Story Friday July 21, 2017

Every instance certainly not, but every spell quite possibly, especially spell which will be plot point later. In any case, we know he didn't studied guardian form because Nanase can't cast it unless someone is really in danger. Nanase's persistent avatar spell is royal level magic. And Susan's is sorta complicated, spell within a spell and has lot of moving parts - and he didn't exactly had lot of time to get another look at it. Sarah may be another case - he didn't had much time either but at least it was more than quick look. Still, it's complicated and requires lot of energy - wait. Tedd should have lot of energy AND Pandora knows that spell well AND knows HE knows it ... ok, that WOULD be possible spell for the wand. I don't think Tedd plans to arm someone else. And he's not debilitated by age or injury, just physically unfit and with zero combat skills. Actually, his dad might not have lot of reasons to cast spells in house. And Susan doesn't have any other spells.
  9. Story Friday July 21, 2017

Well, by her own admission Ellen isn't the sharpest pencil in the box. Although she was the one who figured out how to defeat Not-Tengu by running down the amgient energy he was using. If all their "medling teenagers" cases ended up not being actually magic or dangerous, she might not seriously think about offensive capabilities of her spells. Similarly how Elliot never considered he might need to train aerial combat. Sure, they have their martial arts training, but paradoxically Grace the pacifists takes the possibility she will need to actually fight more seriously than them. Of course, even she still failed in combat situation. They need more training ... unfortunately, they don't seem to have any time for it.
  10. Story Friday July 21, 2017

I don't think he physically lost the eye - more likely, it's just no longer working. We actually don't know that, despite the image suggesting that. However, powerhouse implies she has lot of various spells, we also know she's wizard. Nanase can fly, it seems likely Noriko can as well. Also, that image shows her LEVITATING the swords. (Would be funny if she was flying on broomstick, but I think in EGS (unlike Gramaraye) there are no reasons why would someone need broomstick to fly.) She HAD that spell, based on timeline. Might not be bright enough, or she didn't wanted to risk it. Or Dan didn't know she had it yet In any case, I don't think it's retcon-worthy problem.
  11. Story Friday July 21, 2017

Those are scenarios for NORMAL battles. Not-tengu can fly. The battle might happened in air, with Not-tengu falling but later not found on ground. Or Noriko might've hit him with something which threw him INTO building or maybe into forest, breaking several trees with him.
  12. Story Friday July 21, 2017

Tedd is only able to create wand with spells he knows. What spell Tedd knows can be used for effective defense? I would say likely none. He didn't even seem to actually study Cheerleadra, we know for certain he didn't study guardian form ... I think that what will Tedd put on the wand is not important, that Pandora only wants to show him some difference between proper wand and watches. If Pandora vowed to not interact with Noriko, she may not be ABLE to talk with her even if it would be to apologize ... and I don't think she would want to apologize to her. Either that or he ran away because he couldn't get a hit in edgewise. His plan for using Nanase as a means to revenge might have been in the hope of destabilizing Noriko so she wouldn't be able to focus the next time they fought. I don't really know why, but I assumed Noriko disabled him (took him down sounds pretty final) but he escaped later or possibly when he was transferred to cell. Although the way he described it it sounds more likely he escaped directly from battle with Noriko, and wounded.
  13. Hmmm ... I'm not sure how exactly would overly playful and affectionate cats behave, but considering the party was considered a massive success, I guess it was similarly to how would it work if I (or pre-Grace Tedd) designed the spell. Either that or someone brought catnip on the party.
  14. NP, Friday July 21, 2017

Yes. I didn't meant it as complete list but I failed to indicate it.
  15. Story Friday July 21, 2017

I wouldn't be so sure she meant it literally. Nioi knows him well and thinks this is not the case ... of course, she may be naive. Prometheus was Titan, not mortal. And Adam ended much better than Lilith, his first wife. But otherwise yes., the concept of gods fearing humans will surpass them is very old.
  16. Story Wednesday July 19, 2017

Maybe Voltaire is meant to be manifestation of Order? (He doesn't necessary be GOOD in it. Pandora is nowhere near as chaotic as she claims.)
  17. NP, Friday July 21, 2017

Sigh ... you still didn't get it? Are you Christian? Then it must be Christian God, obviously. Are you Jew? The it must be יהוה, obviously. Are you Muslim? Then it must be Allah, obviously. Are you Hinduist? Then ... ok, actually I'm not sure about this one. Are you atheist? Will of Magic and her flair for the dramatic, obviously. Are you agnostics? We will never know. DAN WILL NEVER SAY ANYTHING CLOSER OUT OF FEAR OF ANGERING PART OF READERS. PS: Of course, in your case it will be Horus. Unless it's obviously Ra.
  18. NP, Friday July 21, 2017

Considering she normally CANT copy abilities it must differ at least little.
  19. Story Friday July 21, 2017

I would hope we will see what's the idea with the wand but yes it does feel like there will be scene change. Not yet. I don't think he can copy Grace's ability to talk with animals and noone else does. Funny her son doesn't take it that way. I suppose you mean "Challenge rating 5?!" as that's hard to forget. But there were more cases for sure.
  20. NP, Friday July 21, 2017

That's not how it could work. But I agree that it seemed like she's copying her normal form at start ... except the guardian form don't really change how you look, it only raises brightness and that may already count as ability.
  21. Story Wednesday July 19, 2017

No, aberrations don't count as people and everyone wants them dead.
  22. Story Wednesday July 19, 2017

    Forgot about that. Seconding that.
  23. NP, Friday July 21, 2017

On hindsight, making Copy and Scan work differently is easiest way to close the infinity repeat loophole. And with magic trolling Ellen with white hair, it's completely possible this is the in-story reason why it doesn't work as well, despite the similarities of those two spells. Would be interesting if Tedd can look at those two spells and make Scan which doesn't have this limit. I mean, Tedd is supposed to be able to modify spells, it would be very hard to explain why he can't do this ... BTW, WHY did Dan spend time drawing the wings in new style just for this expla - wait. We will see more guardian form Nanase in main story soon, right? Also, WHO in story will be hiding who they are under transformation? Rhoda again?
  24. http://www.egscomics.com/egsnp.php?id=644 Wait ... HOW did Ellen copied Cheerleadra then? (Not talking about guardian form, as THAT was obviously exception.) Still ... I sort of expected this. It's easier way to get out of the problems than the alternative.
