    He's certianly watching ...
  2. Terrible movie thread

there are several known radioactive isotopes that can't be replicated at all (if i had to guess why, i'd suspect they break down during the replication process, given they're radioactive. Or because plot.) and a few that are impractical to replicate (energy sources that eat more power to replicate than they produce) Metaphasics might be in that list. The list is pretty long and may not be all radioactive. For example, latinum can't be replicated (that's sort of the point) and I don't think it's radioactive. Of course, gold is worthless. I still don't get why so many people blame that for everything wrong with the movie. Well I don't.

Easy: She thinks noone is looking. Catalina and Rhoda likely still have their marks because they didn't awakened. And I would suppose they didn't realize the connection ... also they don't exactly have anyone to talk to - but that might've changed now they know how to talk to Cheerleadra He wouldn't get anywhere with his magitech without this ability. But yes, I suspect there is some other dangerous aspect ... ... maybe ... his resistance must be really high. But it's still enchantment resistance, not spell resistance (see explanation). On the other hand, he did resisted the hair watches failure ... Agree, definitely Noriko. By "nerdy foolishness" you mean the marking which will take care of the first problem? Immortals and internal reasons are ok. Other external factors are problem. I don't believe this. He was certainly closer to awakening than Susan. No, the problem was really that the diamond messed his magical profile or something, if instead of touching the diamond someone made him angry it would work ok.

    Definitely not enough.
  5. Story Monday May 23, 2016

Its assuredly this. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Sounds like it. Just to clarify, I do think you're probably correct. I was mearly pointing out that we don't actually have any evidence yet. The pinup doesn't count, as it's not (yet) been confirmed canon. Also, just because she can shrink someone more than to 80% doesn't mean she can shrink them as much as shown with Amanda. Maybe her limit is 50%, or 25% ...

While true, not relevant. Plural or singular does not depend on hardware. Single AI would be still singular even if the hardware computing it would be in several distinct data centers. The Borg collective might be better example. They use "we", but there is some singular there as well.
  7. Terrible movie thread

Well sure it won't make the plot better. In best case, the plot compensates it so good it won't worsen it. Of course, Insurrection is NOT example of that. Because of the moral lesson Ba'ku were obviously supposed to give. It's just that I would expect more arguments why the movie is bad, considering how strongly you reacted against it. I don't think this is relevant. The health resource is certainly good, maybe even vital, but not really important for the war.
  8. Terrible movie thread

Okay, this is a completely different gripe nothing to do with the locals -- given that we already know this is a unique resource not duplicated anywhere else in the known universe, why in the world use such a moronic kill-the-goose-that-lays-golden-eggs method instead of investing, say, a few years of research into finding a safer procedure that won't ruin the planet? There may not be any - but that's OK. There is no reason why not build gigantic health resort on the planet (or several). Oh, except the fact that those slave-trafficking space pirates who manufacture illegal weapons didn't really wanted to share and I got the feeling that revenge was big part of their motive. Yeah ... the writers decided who is supposed to be the good side, and then just made sure the bad side will be so bad noone will side with them. Except that this is so common you can't say every plot using this method is bad. I actually considered pretty believable that even in Federation, some admirals are corrupted. Wouldn't be first one, that guy who decided to ignore treaty with Romulans wasn't example of true Federation values either (Erik Pressman). Sure, I personally don't agree with that point of treaty either, but they should negotiate about that, not violate the treaty.
  9. Story Monday May 23, 2016

"Answer harder" is "Die harder", "The Questioning" is "The Quickening", what is "Requestionance" from? Aren't the outlines thicker? Also, Amanda's mouth is open VERY widely. "Wrong"? And probably normal size, too. If for no other reason than because they need someone normal-sized to operate the rest of their stuff. Yup. I'm not sure they will be able to operate the TOUCHSCREEN. Although presumably they already tried. I wouldn't say that. Dan could very easily be exaggerating Rhoda's ability in the pinup because it's not canon. Until we get direct confirmation from Dan, either in the form of an in canon demonstration or a direct response on Twitter or, say, an upcoming Q&A comic, I'd say the jury's still out. I'm not sure what other reasons than the exact range of her ability would the pinup have for not being canon. The time limit of one month was mentioned to be maximum for TF gun and given how the TF gun works, it may be close to general limit for enchantments, at least in the "wouldn't need additional energy to keep going" sense. Or not. That wouldn't work. Smaller people would need smaller pixels and therefore bigger resolution. The phone behind Amanda needs to be "retina" or something comparable to be usable, and even then it will be poor quality for them in their current size. The most important savings of shrunk population is SPACE. Anyone who tried to bought parcel of land would confirm that space costs money.
  10. STORY: Monday, May 16, 2016

That's what I wanted to say. Although you said it better and supported it with flair for drama ... ... I think it was the "mind" which was mentioned as possibly not being applicable. Being both plural and singular sounds impossible. On the other hand, Magic might really be that weird and hard-to-describe. Nanase was hiding much more than just being lesbian. For example, she was hiding what clothes she likes to wear. When she changed outfit, she DID get less sneaky spells ... Did you noticed the "Like this" button?

Are you sure? Funny - or destructive?

She has a hourglassy figure here as well, but I suppose it's not good example
  13. Terrible movie thread

It's not DIRECTLY Borg technology like stolen piece of cube. They must done something to make it not assimilate the crew. Oh. Right. Their ship commanded by Founders and their attack on DS9 throw me off, forgot for a moment what the Founders are and that it might not be because they were on same side. .... they doing it deliberately to confuse me their enemies, right? Anyway, K'Vort is half the mass of Galaxy (at least according to Memory Beta), sure it looks bigger but that's because of the wings. Vor'cha, while smaller, are more advanced and more heavily armed (and are classified as HEAVY cruisers). But you're right, just because it looks like K'Vorts doesn't mean they didn't had upgrades. I would still be more impressed if Narada destroyed Negh'Var. (Regarding "doesn't matter which side they were on" ... do you think Cardassia ended the war with better technology?) As seen in Naked Now, he can get into lot of various influences. (Actually, I don't like it in Naked Now either ... but I'm making that argument as advocatus diaboli.) I would definitely not consider Insurrection as bad as XI. Or V. Not speaking about XII.
  14. Terrible movie thread

I'm not sure about that ... ... on the other hand, this is very good point. Even if Romulan scientists would said it wouldn't help, I would give at least 50% they will try that. Must've been EXTREMELY unusual to cause FTL shockwave. (Actually, they didn't even DESCRIBED it as FTL. Apparently, Romulus is WEEKS from some star.)
  15. Terrible movie thread

Remember that all characters were basically under influence - specifically, influence of teenager hormones. That explains a lot. Can I use this to discuss Star Trek XI or is that bad enough to warrant it's own forum? I'm actually surprised it's not linked directly from memory alpha. It's not like we saw that many mining ships. Trilithium actually CAUSES the star to became supernova. It's possible that it would make the situation even worse (or same, just sooner). If you accept the idea that supernova explosion affects other solar systems (which it actually does ... but, like, years after the explosion, because the shockwave is slower than speed of light ; also, I think shields will be enough to protect from that.) The ship being refited instead of built that way from start might actually explain that: it was a rush job, the ship had numerous weakness ... and it might've been damaged when sucked to the black hole. They didn't activated cloaking device since appearing in past, did they? Also, which conflict exactly you talk about? Klingons were on the side of Dominion most of the war, and lost a lot of ships (some of them directly at DS9). And I didn't saw any Negh'Var in the conflict anyway ; it looked as OLD and SMALL ships actually.
  16. NP: Friday, May 20, 2016

You need to read Countdown comics. Basically, the Narada is a mining ship, but retrofitted with BORG technology Nero STOLE from secret romulan MILITARY facility he only get into using senate codes he got from members of senate who did the mistake thinking his ship would help evacuating them. It requires some luck, but in chaos of destroying Romulus, it might be possible. Certainly more possible than lot of other stuff happening in Abrams movies.
  17. STORY: Monday, May 16, 2016

Theoretically, no we don't. We are more or less assuming that if the magic that makes the person an aberration were to be broken, the person would revert to his real age - which, in a lot of cases, is old enough that he'd be dead. Well, there is definitely no known way to return to being a regular human for them.
  18. NP: Friday, May 20, 2016

and klingons. according to Picard first contact with them went so badly it started a war, yet archer runs into them all the time. Well, it DID seemed there will be war based on Broken Bow ... but, yes, somehow it didn't happened ... okay fair enough, but the point i was trying to make is that ST11's discontinuities are an entirely seperate league of WTF from the other movies. My point was that what ST12 did with technology is even worse than what ST11 did with continuity. (Also, good job with upholding temporal prime directive, Spock.) ... hey, maybe they solve the continuity problem by making another movie in which someone PREVENTS Narada from going back in time, therefore returning the normal continuity! ... alternatively, you can explain ALL discontinuities by the temporal war being in progress, so the continuity keeps changing. Apparently, the scenarists are affected too, but we are outside the effect and therefore can observe it. (Show me which other show had that good excuse. And that's not even taking Q into account.) (EDIT: Ok. Doctor Who, I guess.)
  19. NP: Friday, May 20, 2016

Unlike Susan, I don't think two continuities would be enough. That was "explained" in ENT. And it was almost as good idea as the explanations with midichlorians. (That was sarcasm.) Oh, yes. Noone was supposed to SEE Romulans before TOS. Yup. Despite the temporal episodes of ENT making such great path ...
  20. STORY: Monday, May 16, 2016

Ok, I never saw Trinity, so did not know Ryan Reynolds was in it, lol. I just randomly used him as an example of someone famous that people consider good looking. I saw Blade:Trinity, but I must admit that I only know Ryan Reynolds plays in it because I searched it on wiki. He is not one of the short list of actors I'm able to recognize and remember, so I needed to look him up when you mentioned him. Apparently, world is small. Or at least Hollywood is.
  21. NP: Friday, May 20, 2016

I think TNG does that all on it's own, I mean there's the borg cubes, and the espisode "Power Play" essentially had ghosts possessing crew members, and an attempt to extract and contain them. In Star Trek:Armada II, you can fuse eight Borg cubes into one big, but the shape remains cube. Oh ... yes ... Power Play ... one of many examples of android character behaving TOO much like human. Seriously, if they can posses Data, why didn't they went for the ships computer next? Still, better than Naked Now.
  22. STORY: Monday, May 16, 2016

While Hannibal King, the character Ryan Reynolds plays, was normally bitten and then cured. Which we know is impossible in EGS.
  23. NP: Friday, May 20, 2016

the sanctuary district incident (DS9), the dozen or so incidents in Krenim space (Voyager), the crew of the enterprise watching earth be retroactively assimilated (First Contact) are the ones that come most readily to mind, but I know there were others. Yesterday's enterprise was the exception, not the rule. and even then someone was aware that it was the present changing, not an entirely new world. In TAS:Yesteryear, noone knew Spock except Kirk who was in past with him when they changed the past using Guardian of Forever. And note that crew of Enterprise could've seen Earth being assimilated in First Contact only because they were already inside the temporal vortex - otherwise they would just disappear. That's not valid comparison. The StarTrek physics is really complicated and two completely different methods of time travel can fit in. And you already mentioned the case of USS Defiant (NCC-1764). Also, in The Voyage Home, they seemed to activate warp while in atmosphere, I wouldn't count on physics of supersonic flight working normally for such case ... On the other hand, with the amount of explaining the difference they did in the movie (read: they didn't explained it at all), it being a plot hole is more likely. The Star Trek: Department of Temporal Investigations series suggest that physics of time travel is really supposed to be established well in Star Trek ... Note also that the idea that even just Star Trek movies and series fits into one continuity is considered unlikely by lot of people, including me and Susan, although I have problems finding the reference ... I think it mentioned the problem with Picard's different behaviour in First Contact and in TNG. EDIT: found it.
  24. STORY: Monday, May 16, 2016

To stay within the same movie, would Wesley Trent Snipes be enough? Sure. Magic has flair for drama, it is possible that it is also judging what is malevolent purpose. But we can't take as confirmed either. And, to repeat, I don't think Sirleck is looking the worst of those three because he was most malevolent. Magic sure won't do that to NANASE. But I can easily imagine some Mother Teresa type who would be mostly ok with being stuck as angel forever AND as a result it happening. I actually think that the surest way to get permanent monster form is to use a non-permanent one a lot: that matches everything we know about how getting spell works. Becoming aberration, even if the hypothesis of consequences of feeding on humans would be true, can only be the second surest way.
  25. STORY: Monday, May 16, 2016

Yes you can. Live is not fair. If you are lucky - for example, you attract attention of correct immortal - you can get into much better situation than otherwise. Based on current evidence I wouldn't rule out the possibility of some really human-looking aberrations, and there certainly isn't any rule that all aberrations need to look as bad as Sirleck - as proven by both vampires, actually. The REAL negatives of being aberration is the parasitic existence (and they are ok with this), complete lack of empathy (they likely didn't have much to start with), weakness against magical weapons and being favourite target of everyone and their dog - I mean, immortals and the people they marked. The monster form ... I think that the sort of people who became aberrations don't really take looking as monsters as being negative. That of course doesn't invalidate the possibility that some of them really look that bad as a sort of payback. Or, maybe they look like monster because when they were still human, they knew what sort of monster they will became, and subconsciously wanted it to show on their look. Agree. Sirleck might became this greedy AFTER he became aberration.
