  1. Story, Monday March 12, 2018

Anyone remember that it was Grace who told Tedd and Elliot how to get into the PTTAPUTASF? I really didn't until I looked it up again. That sort of implies that Grace was involved in Pandora's, Magus', and Sirleck's schemes. And maybe even Tedd's dad had a plan of his own here. Who do you think was in overall charge of the PTTAPUTASF mousetrap then? I can think of several reasons Edward would go along with this: Edward was laying a trap to catch Sirleck, or rather Sirleck's rich old host, as a major figure in the black market for enchanted items. Edward was playing matchmaker, realizing that the reason that his niece's relationship with Elliot failed because Elliot isn't a woman. Edward wanted to teach Tedd a lesson in resposibility for misusing his magical technology.
  2. Story, Monday March 12, 2018

The simplest explanation for the empty parking lot is that it's always empty, or always empty at night. It's supposed to look easy to get into. There isn't a fence between Magus and the warehouse when he peers at it from behind what looks like another building, or maybe a big sign. BTW, it's never been stated that either Magus or Sirleck have ever been to the place before. Magus mentioned the unlocked window on the first floor in back they always leave open, but he didn't say he's used it. Magus didn't have to be in the Warehouse when the guard was bribed or when Elliot touched the Dewitchery Diamond. Sirleck could have bribed the guard without coming to the site, and received information from the guard before making full payment on the bribe. Magus could have visited the site at any time, of course, since he was invisible until tonight, thoroughly scouted it, and even seen the trap working. The same applies to Pandora, who gave Magus the whole idea. And if the parking lot was always or nearly always empty, Magus wouldn't have seen anything unusual tonight. But Ashley has never been to this place before.
  3. Story, Monday March 12, 2018

I know, I borrowed a friend's Gremlin way back in the Seventies. It was a sawed-off Hornet that got terrible mileage and had terrible handling. However, I don't think Gremlins were particularly prone to bursting into flames, or coming already rusted new and having aluminum-block engines that overheated and warped. No, he was kidnapped along with Arthur Dent by the Vogons. That may not be a problem. One of the ways to get the necessary two Elliots and two Ellens would be for the Dewitchery Diamond to create more than one new body since there is arguably one more "curse" involved. A new Ellen could result as well as a new body for magus. Maybe their powers would be mixed up, too. Counting Magus in his new body as a second Elliot (Magus told Ashley he was his universe's version of Elliot), the second Ellen could be more or less identical to the first, or with Magus' memories as well as Elliot's pre-Ellen Prime memories. Or some other variation. There might be more than one Cheerleadra after the big split, and Ellen Mark Two won't be knocked out. Of course, of course video of the two Cheerleadras flying together will find their way onto the web, and there goes Elliot's alibi...

That would be logical answer in Europe, but I suspect Americans don't do things like that. At least not when facility which is still top secret is involved. Maybe the guard who is actually much more formidable than he looks doesn't need a car because could teleport back and forth to work. Nioi did that to save Grace and again when she nose-beeped Ellen in Painted Black.
  5. Story, Monday March 12, 2018

Hmm. Like Christine? I think evil cars may fit the Aberration parameters: No longer human (cars aren't human except in Pixar movies and Chevron ads). And having driven a monstrous 1971 Plymouth Fury myself (I called it "Godzilla")...
  6. Story, Monday March 12, 2018

Maybe not. Magus and Sirleck both have wanted to get to this place for a long time, although for different reasons. Ashley had never heard of this place until tonight (remember, Ashley didn't know that Ellen was created by the Dewitchery Diamond until Magus' told her tonight) . What's keeping Ashley here at all (she could just step through that window now; there's no glass in it) is her concern for Elliot and Ellen.
  7. Story Friday 9, March 2018

Another box label: 1492 burned into the wood. There is a red plastic button next to the label set into rusting steel housing. There is enough clearance between the button and the housing to suggest the button is some kind of catch; there are hinges on the opposite side of that face that indicate the box should open outward. Pressing the button will not open the box unless no one is else is watching; then the person pressing the button will vanish and the label will change to 1493. I'm afraid you've been fooled by a homonym. A BFG is a Big Fowling Gun.
  8. Story Friday 9, March 2018

Actually, since Sirleck is planning to abandon Ellen as soon as Magus gets his own body, Sirleck thinks he doesn't have much more time to look down at his own boobs. You may owe Circe a cookie. No, it's a reference to Doom. Also a naughty anagram, like MILF before it became milf, SNAFU before it became snafu, FUBAR... I think all of you can guess what the friggin Fs stand for if you don't already know.
  9. Story Friday 9, March 2018

Maybe Sirleck is looking at the label on one of the boxes. Speaking of opening random boxes...
  10. Story Friday 9, March 2018

I think Dan was inspired by the Top Men warehouse scene at the end of Raiders of the Lost Arc.
  11. Story Friday 9, March 2018

I wonder if one of those artifacts can mark or awaken sleepers and dreamers, like, for instance, Ashley.
  12. Which Moper Are You?

I didn't go through a comically obnoxious phase. I'm still not finished.
  13. Story, Monday March 5, 2018

Lacking, but maybe not entirely lacking. In the comics before, Nioi explained the Dewitchery Diamonds in a way that seems to jive with what Edward related about the artifact, what Raven told Abraham about the artifact, what Pandora told her son about the Artifact and what she told Magus and what Pandora might have told Sirleck about the Dewitchery Diamond, and what we saw the artifact as it created Ellen. That could be a pretty good indication that Nioi might have told the truth and/or believed she'd been telling the truth, which supports that same support for Nioi believing what she told him from reincarnation to going out through the magic door was good stuff, or at least done with good intentions. There's also a detail that provides a decent excuse for her not to tell Ellen exactly what she's about to do and why she left so quickly: In the top of the third panel Nioi says to Ellen "In any case, you don't have your own memories of childhood, and it's the same with my--" but she doesn't finish. In the bottom of the third panel Nioi thinks "They're almost here". Fourth panel won't harm you, couldn't hurt, fifth panel "Well, it sounds good but", beepage, "Great!", sixth panel "good for both of you", Seventh Panel "Gotta go! Have good dreams!" and Nioi's just got some of her tail in our side of the magic door. I'm guessing Dan did this so he could maintain suspense until Ellen reveals the end of her last dream and Nioi's epilogue to all the rest of the Main Eight after her big Karaoke victory. Or did he have that resolution in mind when he wrote this comic? The point here is that that the my that "My--" referred to may not have been Kaoli. Maybe Nioi was so sure it wouldn't harm or transform Ellen and Kaoli in any way is that Kaoli had already done the same thing for someone else, And maybe the Second Life Tedd could have been been linked to Lord Tedd. Possibly Lord Tedd will have special feelings for Ellen if he ever shows up again.
  14. Story, Monday March 5, 2018

Well, not necessarily two Tedds from the same universe. We don't have much to go on here since Nioi didn't show up at all until the fourth arc. We've never seen her and Lord Tedd together; we've only seen her talking about Lord Tedd or Lord Tedd talking about Nioi, the latter in a single comic. Edward said that Grace must not have died in that universe after seeing General Shade Tail in the background of the picture of Lord Tedd with his gauntlet after the final defeat of the Goo in Sister I. Which Grace? Remember, our Grace is the equivalent of General Shade Tail, so Edward was probably talking about Dr. Sciuridae's daughter who was killed since the reason our Grace exists instead of General Shade Tail is because Dr. Sciuridae used his late daughter's blood instead of the blood from of the man used to create General Shade Tail. The simplest explanation is that Edward somehow knows of one universe where Lord Tedd exists--but there may be an implication that Edward knows of more than one such universe because he seems surprised that our Tedd's Grace exists at all. The other big factoid which bears on my theory is that Nioi is her Lord Tedd's equivalent of our Tedd's Grace. What is the best thing to happen to our Tedd? Grace, of course. What's the best thing we know of that's happened to Lord Tedd? Nioi. The Lord Tedd we've been assuming is the only Lord Tedd might be a creation of Nioi's Dewitchery Diamond with that universe's equivalent a Tess or a Terra who'd been zapped into a male. Even if he wasn't created by that Dewitchery Diamond, Nioi's the only person who we know makes Lord Tedd happy and less of a heartless tyrant. Is it canon that the universe of Second Life actually exists? I don't think it is one way or another, but it is so detailed that it seems real. Whether it's real or not, we know that Nioi put memories into Ellen that are a lot more more that can be accounted for from a few weeks of even vivid mundane dreaming. It's possible that Nioi really doesn't believe in reincarnation; she could have believed in it once but has grown agnostic, neither sure that reincarnation can exist, or that it can't exist, but it's part of the culture she grew up with. And think about Santa Claus. Do you actually think there are real parents who mean it when they say Santa is real to their children? Nioi used this power to help Ellen, whether or not she was sure what she told Ellen was entirely true. I think she could and should have done the same for Lord Tedd. Going off into a bit of a tangent, there was a warlord who does seem similar to Lord Tedd: Ashoka the Great. Buddhists would know about Ashoka. The basics are that Ashoka had a large empire, killed a large number of people making it even larger, and then promoted Buddhism--which, of course, is rather large on reincarnation. So are Hindus; Ashoka's empire covered a lot of the Indian subcontinent. One flag of uncertain color it raises for me is that what Second Life Ellen did with Archie is similar to what Melissa and Justin. Far from a perfect match, but still at least Justin seemed to be less inclined to having sex with his friend even if he hadn't discovered he was gay. Of course, Second Life Ellen remained friends with Archie afterward while Justin hated Melissa for a long time and Melissa refused to face reality for a long time. So far the Second Life Dreams have worked out pretty well. As for in-story consequences for Nioi, we haven't seen Nioi since Grace's birthday party, and then only when Ellen finishes explaining the end of her Second Life Dreams. Note that Ellen's Second Life memories continue past graduating high school, more than a year away from Grace's last birthday. Nioi led Ellen believe that a soul younger than its body was the problem, which sounds like Ellen now has a soul older than her body. Whether that's true or not, the memories given to Ellen included doing the wrong thing with Archie but being forgiven and believing that Archie didn't have to forgive her, which seems to be a pretty good thing for anyone to internalize. That said, yes, Nioi's power to do what she did does sound like it could be used with bad intent. Anyone guess why Rumiko Takahashi's Shampoo is named so? It's because she can wash memories out of your hair, like Nellie Forbush in South Pacific tried to Wash that man right of her hair. Brainwashing. It's something we accused Chinese of doing, and Shampoo is Chinese. Finally, what do you mean when you said "heroic medicine" here? Bloodletting? Lobotomies? Doctors playing God? Mustard Plasters? Goat Gland Implants? Hysterectomies for 13-year old girls to cure irregular periods? Electric powered probes to stick up your butt (I found one of those in my late stepfather's things and sent it to the Museum of Questionable Medical Practices.)
  15. Story, Monday March 5, 2018

I've already got in a theory about that on this thread, and I've been saying something like this could happen. The thing is, Magus and Elliot effectively have more than one thing that the Dewitchery Diamond could see as a curse: Elliot transforms into girl forms, Ellen transforms other people. Elliot being merged with Magus could be considered another curse. And Ellen and Sirleck were both involved in merging Elliot and. It could get even more complicated if Sirleck/Ellen touch the Dewitchery Diamond. Suppose that created an Ellen who was an Aberration who could turn other people into Aberrations? BTW, the internet came back at where I live, though until I'd been back for a couple of hours. I was about to go to bed. Think I will now.
  16. Story, Monday March 5, 2018

I'm not married to Nioi being right, but here's a thought: Have you ever wondered why Lord Tedd seemed so evil, but then he was looking for Nioi to give her a book she'd like. Could it be that Lord Tedd was created by a Dewitchery Diamond? We know that Kaoli was...
  17. Story, Monday March 5, 2018

Sorry, guys, Internet out at my place and the wifi at the library I'm at now is closing. So no amazing crackpot theories today and maybe not for several days. I hope you can survive. Wait. One theory: There will be two ellens and two Elliots. One may be Magus, but I think the old DW is going to make another Ellen too. Second Second life time? Send for Nioi!
  18. Story, Friday March 02, 2018

Did he? Not very clearly. Magus explained to Ashley that "Ellen had the ability to shoot a proper spell version of the TF gun beam I could use a conduit."My guess is that "proper" means a version based on the magic Earthlings use (I'm including Aberrations, Elves, griffins, summoning, et al, and apparently Earth in at least two universes, Moperverse and Magusverses, unless Magus comes from a third side of Earth, but not the different magic and magitech like the transformation gun) Does it explain why Pandora is worried? She's sure that the spell she asks Tedd to put on his first wand is safe. She's almost sure Tedd won't use the wand on Elliot, and almost sure Magus wouldn't be standing ready between Elliot and Tedd if he did.
  19. Story, Friday March 02, 2018

    Sounds like Paranorman.
  20. Story, Friday March 02, 2018

Yes, but why was Pandora worried? What would be bad about that? If Tedd's wand works just like Ellen's beam, then it should do what Pandora told Magus it would do: Merge magus with Elliot so the Dewitchery diamond could be used to create a new body for Magus. Wouldn't it be better if that already happened? Sirleck wouldn't have had to possess Ellen, which sounds better to me. It could have something to do with how the Dewitchery Diamond works. It's supposed to remove the "curse" from a person and create a duplicate with the same curse and the ability to spread the curse. But which "curse"? did it remove from Elliot? Being female, or being able to turn others into females.? You can say that merged Magus-Elliot is under more than one "curse" because the booby trapped potion threw him into the Moperverse, trapped him at the very edge of the spirit plane(s), removed his ability to use all the spells he'd had (He got his influence spell from Pandora) that was around three years ago. Getting merged with Elliot was this evening. So, Elliot is returned to his pre-merge state, and a duplicate is created with Magus' memories. Wait, when Ellen was created, she got all of Elliot's memories up until the moment she popped into existence. And she got his skills, and all the ki-powers he'd gotten from Greg and his sparring with Nanase. She got to a beam because she was cursed by a beam, and that counted as a way to spread her "curse" So, does Magus 2.0 get all the stuff Elliot had plus all the stuff he had as Magus, plus all the stuff he had from the sabotaged potion. Plus maybe Ellen's beam if Ellen does it--is that part of the second curse? Well... It could get extremely complicated if Dan wants it to. Would there be more than one duplicate? Would Magus be able to zap people into the spirit plane(s), or phase in and out like an Immortal? Zap people into other universes? I don't have any explanation of why Dan put that worry in Pandora's mind I'm satisfied with, and I've written three different versions and then sent them to bit heaven

    What?! Tedd's cheating on Grace?!
  23. Story, Friday March 02, 2018

Likely, but not for certain. Charlotte might have actually put something on her forum about an inhuman peeping Tom--Ellen could have even been looking at that forum just before Sirleck sneaked up behind her and possessed her. And then Sirleck, being the a smart Aberration, could have used that factoid to make her lie more credible. Nanase could still be talking with Charlotte now about Ellen taking so long to show up and not being able to get Ellen on their phones.
  24. Story, Friday March 02, 2018

I think the Verres home is the only place in EGS we know has a basement. It's the only place we've ever seen the Main Eight all together in one place at the same time, which was (of course) during Grace's birthday party. Four out of the five known Immortals have been there (Jerry/Zeus has never been shown there). Quite true, and interesting, but exactly how relevant is that to Nanase figuring out where Ellen is, which is a long drive away? It's not clear to me here who "Actually" needs to find out where Adrian lives or why. The biggest reason I said that having Ashley, Magus, and/or Elliot resolve their predicament before anyone else gets involved is that as far as we know of no one else (except Sirleck) who knows that they are missing. It's likely that Nanase is going to make enquiries or maybe already has by the time Tedd woke up but Dan hasn't shown us any proof that anyone else knows that Ellen, or Elliot, or Ashley aren't where they're expected to be or can't be reached. I'm pretty sure too since Tedd's on the basement couch, alone, and no one has put a blanket over him. I'm also pretty sure that Tedd's going to check the news soon on TV or on the web or by calling friends, or by going upstairs to ask his dad if he thinks his Dad is at home--which Edward might not be by this point even if he was just before Tedd went to sleep. I don't think Tedd will choose to call Elliot first of all because Elliot's having Ashley over, and [keep your filthy thoughts to yourself and don't speculate on what dirty thoughts Tedd might be having.]
  25. Story, Friday March 02, 2018

Isn't it peculiar that Voltaire was so sure Seers weren't as rare as he thought? How did he even know Tedd was a Seer? Now Voltaire not being as smart as he thought he was could explain it, although adding laziness and overconfidence to the mix would be a better recipe. But Pandora didn't know Tedd was a Seer until Heka told her, and she was inhumanly smart when she put her mind to it. Here's an alternative theory: Immortals (formerly known as "Fairies") don't have an inborn ability to detect Seers. Voltaire must have learned about Seers from some source that wasn't an Immortal like himself. If this source is human in origin, at least a few of Voltaire's "toys" may have some very, very sharp knives in their toybox because they have some magic spells the Immortals don't. I wonder if Edward has one of those knives?
