      Welcome!   03/05/2016

Welcome, everyone, to the new 910CMX Community Forums. I'm still working on getting them running, so things may change.  If you're a 910 Comic creator and need your forum recreated, let me know and I'll get on it right away.  I'll do my best to make this new place as fun as the last one!

  1. Things that make you MAD

Sorry to necrorage, but my wife just got a call from the fraud department at Wells Fargo. Someone got hold of her credit card info and went on a spree. We're both going to have to get new cards now. How the hell did they get the numbers?
  2. The Album, and Other Music

Now that the music part of the album is finished, I'm backing up my music system. I'm going to have so many backups when I'm done I won't know where to keep them. Better that than the opposite.
  3. The Album, and Other Music

Question: am I the only music maker on the forum?
  4. The Album, and Other Music

I did not vote for Bruno Mars.
  5. Things That Are Just Annoying

"Museum" is a code word for "long drawn-out chase scene followed by ill-advised opening by the bad guys, followed ultimately by storage in a vast government warehouse until needed as a cheap gag prop for a future movie.
  6. Greasemonkey forum scripts

Does the script work better with Greasemonkey now, or is Tampermonkey still the way to go?
  7. Things that make you worried.

@The Old Hack! You old parsnip, it's good to see you again. I appreciate you breathing some life back into this forum!
  8. Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)

I've got a cousin who caught influenza type B. She reports her whole house wants to kill her now. Type B must be a particularly nasty strain. Hope it's not what my wife has brought home (if that is what she brought home). Meanwhile, I had to reduce the number of pills I take at a time to get them past my swollen throat. Pro tip: smoky Lapsang Souchong will open up your throat. It did for me tonight. I can only handle one glass of it at a time, though. I'm betting the wild lapsang souchong would work better.
  9. Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)

Been dealing with a sore throat all day. Pain on the inside along the right near my larynx. No fever, but uncomfortable. I've had a flu shot, but it was only trivalent and I know that the vaccine hasn't been worth crap this year. I doubt it's flu anyway - I've had no contact with anyone since my surgery except my wife. EDIT: Now she's reporting a sore throat.

  11. What Are You Watching?

The 24 Hours of Daytona. Without interference from Mrs. Prof. And with a pizza with anchovies. Joy.
  12. What Are You Ingesting?

Mrs. Prof has been away for most of the day (and she ate all of the leftover grits), so I took advantage and ordered a pizza with pepperoni, Italian sausage ... and anchovies. I finally got the chance to order one, and I relished its fishy saltiness. She's still gone, as is the smell of the anchovy. As long as I warn her not to eat the pizza, she'll never know. Mwahahaha!
  13. What Are You Ingesting?

The hard part was that I hadn't used the cooker since my wife was diagnosed diabetic 2-3 years ago. That, and it's a Japanese-made Zojirushi unit. I could barely remember how to turn the thing on.
  14. What Are You Ingesting?

It made some of the best grits I've ever had, although it needed lots of salt and butter. We haven't had grits in years, so I went back for a second bowl. One bowl too many - I had a Zofran emergency. Trust me to know how to screw up a good time. Oh, well. At least Mrs. Prof got grits that she thoroughly enjoyed.
  15. What Are You Ingesting?

I've got two cups of grits, eight cups of water, and a handful of salt in a rice cooker. Lord only knows if it's going to produce anything edible.
  16. The Album, and Other Music

A lot of music coming out nowadays uses libraries built for playback engines, such as Native Instruments' Kontakt. My new works take a step in the other direction. Sure, they use Kontakt libraries, but the vast majority of instrument sounds come from two pieces of hardware from the 1990s: the Kawai K5000R and the Mighty Roland SC-88Pro. The SC-88Pro is what some call a "ROMpler," in that it plays back samples that are stored in ROM. It's a vastly underappreciated piece of gear, though. There are so many sounds built into it and so many ways to manipulate them that the possibilities are endless. It gets showcased in the first song on the album. The Kawai K5000R is made by a company better known for its pianos, but for a brief time in the '90s, they put out a series of "additive" synths: the K5000 series. Most synths are "subtractive," starting with a sound and subtracting frequencies with filters to create an end sound. The K5000 series started with nothing and added waves at different frequencies to create sounds. It specialized in making beautiful "pad" sounds, or sounds to back up a group of melodic sounds, and that's exactly how I use it in the last song on the album.

USING THE FORUM. As in, nobody is, with the exception of the occasional drive-by. Why is that? Once, someone said it's because the forum had become a place to talk about yourself. I say do it! I want to see what my fellow forum denizens are doing, feeling, and thinking. This is a place for silliness as well. Have we lost our spark? Our drive? Our mambo dogface to the banana patch? Come on! Get those verbal happy feet moving again! Use the forum, for "Bob"'s sake! It's what using is for!

  19. Loudmouth's Journey Inside

Okay, maybe Baker's a little bored. I still say comfy.

  23. Things That Are Just Annoying

If it happens again, I'd say it's doctor-worthy. Twice more would be downright EMS-worthy.
  24. Things That Are Just Annoying

Did you have any other symptoms when your headache was happening (or now, for that matter)?
  25. Things That Make You Happy

I have just burned my first test CD of my album! I'm not sure if the last track is finished or not, but it's close enough to do some Alpha testing. Twelve tracks of music, so close to being ready to publish. I'm getting antsy looking for feedback!
