  1. Story Wednesday August 17, 2016

They wouldn't have to act like friends of Cheerleadra, they'd just have to be seen with her enough to establish them as three separate people. If they only put Elliot and Cheerleadra together, then people will instantly think of Elliot's sister. They really do need to have all three involved to head off the most likely questions and hassles. (Although, if it's known that Ellen has a steady girlfriend, or even "best friend," she would probably be next in line for suspicion, so ideally Nanase should be with Ellen....)
  2. Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)

I guess it would depend on what the plate/pins/screws are made of, a ferromagnetic metal like pure steel, a paramagnetic metal like titanium, or an alloy.
  3. Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)

There's a link on that page which leads to a list of MRI compatbilities: There's probably similar information out there for the hardware in your ankle; my guess would be that that sort of implanted equipment has to be pretty sturdy and the small influence of an MRI wouldn't do much, but that's just a guess, albeit an educated one. :-)
  4. Immortal Alignment

I thought the First Edition was just plain Dungeons & Dragons?
  5. Story Wednesday August 17, 2016

A TFG-made Cheerleadra copy wouldn't have any of her powers. Nanase can float, so she might be able to pull it off as long as no trouble starts requiring a super-hero, but what are the odds of that? It would make much more sense to have someone else transform into Elliot, and let all three if them (Elliot, Ellen, and Cheerleadra) be seen at once. Only question is, who could mimic his mannerisms well enough?
  6. NP, Friday August 19, 2016

Ashley's desires regarding transformations currently run to involuntarily transforming others, for various good or bad reasons. I suspect that if Pandora wants to Mark Ashley, all she has to do is be present when Ashley finds out about Sam. That would be a completely altruistic reason to want to be able to transform others. At the moment of most wishing she could do something to help him, Pandora could probably give her that power. I suspect the reason Pandora was able to give Tedd a Mark that allows him to transform others, is because he can so deeply understand why someone might *want* to be transformed. He already knows better than to transform someone else against their will, but he is also experienced enough with transformations to know that it wouldn't necessarily be against someone's will.

If Sam finds out about it, I'm pretty sure he'll be an eager volunteer.
  8. NP, Friday August 19, 2016

Tedd has expressed the exact same desire to go on Transforming Rampages in the past, and he's even given the same reason why not. Given that Tedd actually *has* the power to transform others, and has for years, and has refrained from doing so, tells me that Tedd is a good guy.

Care to enlighten us who that is?
  10. Corrupt a Wish

Granted. You now have absolute, always-on bidirectional telepathy. You understand others and are understood by them, whether you desire to or not. You are completely incapable of keeping any secrets, including those of anyone else around you. Start thinking River Tam and magnify it exponentially. I wish for a very simple wish which will increase my happiness by a modest amount and is too simple to be corrupted.
  11. Story Friday August 19, 2016

Yes, that's what set off the thought -- if it were Edward, which I was already pretty skeptical about, then you can be sure he wouldn't have gone to sleep only knowing what had been on the news!
  12. Story Wednesday August 17, 2016

Ooh, good point! That would rule out not only Edward, but Greg as well. Who do we know of that has no idea who Grace is? Nanase's mom, maybe? She'd probably have heard Grace's name, though. Same with parents of any of the Main Eight. Perhaps a teacher at the other high school? Yes, I know it could be someone we haven't seen yet, but there's nowhere to speculate from there.
  13. Last Post Wins

Hmm, wait a moment....looks like Buckaroo sliced through the anchor lengthwise, turning it into two anchors each half as thick. They're both still attached to the chain, though.

Trouble is, Voltaire can always just vanish so that Pandora can't sense him. She's got to figure out a way to get her hands on him without warning. People have been speculating about Edward being Disco Wizard, which triggered me wondering....how the heck has Elliot not gotten a call from Edward the minute word of the incident at the mall got out??

Heh. I was just thinking, "Oh, look, 11pm, not long now before we find out that Liz was marked and Dan is a great big tease!"
  18. NP Wednesday August 17, 2016

Tara may not know what's worth commenting on in our half of the world. Her rattling off a few examples of who has what magic didn't seem like it was meant to be an exhaustive catalog of every ability of everyone there. Rich's first possible spell was greater insight, which certainly wouldn't be visible to the outside world. Ashley's could have been something similarly not apparent to others, like instinctively being drawn to shapeshifters, or enhancing the transformation abilities of others and making them "level up" faster (which would explain Elliot suddenly having at least two new spells, or at least significant variations on existing ones). Grace doesn't sense Marks directly, she only has vague memories of the Marks she saw in her dreams. However, it's possible that there is more to her dream than she has so far remembered, and/or that Disco Wizard has been adding to her knowledge since the dream we first saw him in. So, I don't think it's impossible that she could see someone new, and flashback to more dream memories. Given that she saw what their powers were, and not just that they had Marks, that could prove very interesting.... I've been assuming they share information, but you're right, I don't think it's canon that everyone in the circle knows everything -- Justin is proof of that! I'm now picturing a scene where they discuss magic Marks, and Elliot pipes in with something along the lines of, "But Ashley has a mark like that on her....um...." *blush* I think she'd have to have been using her spell a lot to have Awakened in just a few months. I guess we don't know exactly when Pandora Woke Justin, so we don't have a good benchmark for how long that process takes. She'd have to build up her magic capacity before she could Awaken properly, even with help.

  21. The Grammar Thread

Seems pretty clear your choice of there is correct. You already put your own name on there ages ago, honey! *flips to correct page, adds a couple of stars and a smiley-face next to mlooney's name, hands list back*
  22. The Grammar Thread

It still jars me to see terms like "male nurse" or "lady doctor." You rarely see anyone refer to a "lady nurse" or a "male doctor" unless it's a discussion specifically about gender roles. Why not just say he fooled the nurse? Why do so many people (in general, not picking on Tom specifically here) still speak as if certain jobs belong to one gender, and any time someone doesn't meet those expectations it must be pointed out? Ah, the classic example, one of the most common pet peeves, there/their/they're! Let's see if we can work up a good, succinct explanation of the rules for this one. First test for which one fits is to try substituting "they are." If that sounds right and makes sense, then you want they're. Next, does it refer to a place, or to a person or to something that person possesses? A place is probably there and a person or possession is probably their. I sometimes have a hard time explaining it better than this, anyone else want to take a stab at it? If you've got an example that doesn't fit, please don't just point it out, give a rule for how to know which one to use. :-) If we do a good job on this one, we can move on to you're/your/yore....

  24. Story Monday August 15, 2016

This is one of the things I love about this forum -- our moderators are reasonable people who aren't afraid to apologize when they make a mistake, and to do so just as publicly as the mistaken warning was made. (I know usually we aren't supposed to comment publicly on Moderator actions, but in this case I felt like it was worth risking it ;-) ) Back on topic, I recall Jerry referring to parties where one or more Immortals named Zeus get into a fight...so it looks like Pandora really *is* an introvert!
