TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Miss Sunflower makes rocket boots look easy... But to be fair, she's not quite so... *ahem* top-heavy. Sugar Rush is dressed as Akko from Little Witch Academia, an anime series that's part Harry Potter (focusing on a predestined kid and their two best friends at a magic school) and part Kiki's Delivery Service (anime witch girl whose magic serves as a metaphor for art and creativity). I thought this outfit was a good fit for her, as both Akko and Sugar Rush are both super-excitable and a little impulsive. Her comment about zombies making everything better is inspired by a friend of mine on whom Sugar Rush is based; said friend is a huge fan of zombies. Dino-Mo is dressed as the title character from the Shantae series of video games. I tend to use her and Enticia's Halloween costumes to show support for POC in media, and this year is no exception. Granted, Shantae - a belly-dancing, hair-whipping, shape-shifting genie who fights pirates and monsters - likely has her origins in the nation of Turkey (based on analysis of her belly-dancing style), and Dino-Mo's nationality is half-Mexican, half-Native American, but I felt that this game series deserves some recognition, and I don't have any characters from Turkey. Drawing this costume was a bit tricky; I've never shown this much of Dino-Mo's skin before, as she tends to prefer t-shirts, so I had to decide how to draw her chest and musculature. Titanium Maiden always dresses up as a redheaded character each year, but this Halloween she's dressed up as two! In the first panel, she's dressed up as the shy Sakura from Zombie Land Saga - a bizarre, funny anime that I don't want to give too many details about. It's one of those shows that defies the genres it's associated with, so I don't want to give you any notions about what it's supposed to be, because it's so much better than it sounds as a concept on paper. It's a short anime at only one season (for now) made of 12 episodes, so I recommend giving it a look. There's a bit of language and a small bit of body horror/violence, but it's mostly comedic, with one episode about midway through that makes everyone cry. Just trust me, and watch it. After the Steven Universe movie and the initial series ending, I couldn't resist dressing Enticia as the beautiful and stoic Garnet. If you've been sleeping on this series, watch it NOW. This show has deep characters that evolve and change over the course of the series, and their growth feels natural as the series delves into the mysteries and lore of this world, exploring darker and darker themes. Heck, the first episode has Steven upset over his favorite ice cream being discontinued, then five seasons later he's on trial for his mother's war crimes. I said it before, and I'll say it again: Just trust me, and watch it. Belt Boy dresses as a superhero every Halloween; it may be a BIT of a stretch, but I think that K.O. from OK, K.O.! Let's Be Heroes counts as a superhero, in that he's a hero with superpowers (he just happens to be in a world where almost everyone's a hero and has powers). Another great Cartoon Network series, OK, K.O.! is - much like my comic - a love letter to 80s/90s cartoons and video games (even featuring cameos from Captain Planet, the students from Scooby Doo and the Ghoul School, and Sonic the Hedgehog!). I was originally going to show this series some love by having Cannon dress up as a helmeted side character, Sparko, but I decided against it, as it felt like whitewashing a POC character. So, I wound up dressing Belt Boy as K.O. instead. Titanium Maiden's original costume is that of David Fleming's Ms. Rocket. David's my giftee in the Collective of Heroes Halloween art exchange! I had sketched TM as his comic's title character, Ms. Rocket, as thanks for his birthday fan art submission earlier this year. I loved the pose I drew her in, and couldn't get I this filler's visual gag out of my head, so I decided to put it into this year's Halloween filler. If you want to check out his comic, The Adventures of Ms. Rocket (Which has a girl with rocket boots as she begins her career as a superheroine), visit my Links page. And if you want to see his submission to my birthday fan art contest, visit my newly updated Fan Art page! Have a happy and safe Halloween everyone!

Happy Halloween from TheHeroesOfCRASH.com! Remember to Vote Blue, or Gritty will EAT YOUR SOUL. Usually, my Halloween fillers will include some nostalgic costumes, but there were too many cases of "I Couldn't Resist" with more recent stuff...! I absolutely loved Shuri in Black Panther; with her brains, wisecracks, and cool hand-blasters, she was easily my favorite character. Plus, she's canonically smarter than Tony Stark, who I think needs to be brought down a peg (Admittedly, that's largely because I still have a somewhat petty grudge against Robert Downy Jr. for his not-terribly-Sherlock-y portrayal of Sherlock Holmes). She's a VERY close second to Deadpool for my favorite Marvel movie characters. There was no way I was missing a chance to dress Enticia up as such an awesome character, even if her design was tricky to figure out, simplify, and draw. Titanium Maiden always goes as redheaded characters for Halloween, and I FINALLY saw the movie Brave this summer (and liked it). TM's Merida-styled hair was a bit less tricky than I was afraid it would be; I found myself blocking out the general shape first, and then doing the outermost strands. Cannon always modifies his helmet for Halloween costumes, and this isn't his first time dressing as a Mega Man character (He dressed up as Protoman for the very first Halloween filler!). Cannon and Acid Man (from the new Mega Man 11) share a similar color scheme, have bulky armor above a skinny torso, and wield a barrel-shaped arm cannon on their right arm. The resemblance is unCannony- er, uncanny! Every year, Belt Boy dresses as a superhero, and every year it's NEVER someone from either DC or Marvel! While the Big Two have come up with some great characters, a lot of my favorite superheroes are from outside their universes. Nearly all of Belt Boy's previous costumes have been characters with only one canon universe (making them easy characters to follow and understand), they tend to explore some inventive worldbuilding, and most of them have strong elements of humor. I haven't seen much of One Punch Man, but I would like to see more. I probably would have had BB dress as him last year if I hadn't chosen All Might. One more note: Belt Boy is intentionally trying to maintain his character's half-lidded gaze and small anime mouth. He takes his costumes seriously. Gritty is TERRIFYING. He looks like a Muppet with the dead eyes of a Five Nights at Freddies animatronic. As a Pennsylvanian with Philadelphian parents, I'm a little embarrassed for my own home team. But Gritty has a few things going for him. For one, the concept drawings of him look MUCH less terrifying than the actual mascot costume. And for another, Philadelphia's citizens have kinda adopted him as an anti-Trump mascot. I guess sometimes you have to fight fire WITH fire... or perhaps fight a nightmare-inducing orange monster with bad hair WITH a nightmare-inducing orange monster with bad hair. Being big and orange, I knew Unk was the perfect character to pull him off (And yes, those creepy eyes are glued to Unk's signature sunglasses). And finally, there's Miss Sunflower. This is only her second appearance in a Halloween costume (The first being Gozer the Gozerian). Everyone's been drawing Bowsette lately, and it was only a matter of time until I got into the action. People have been drawing her different ways, combining different degrees of Peach and Bowser's designs. Some make her look mostly like Peach (blonde, waifish, and almost entirely humanoid), while others mix a bit more Bowser into her design (giving her red hair, a bulky physique, and/or a more reptilian design). While I briefly considered drawing Titanium Maiden as a bulky, redheaded Bowsette, it didn't take me long to realize that Miss Sunflower - as a villain with actual horns like most Bowsettes - was a WAY better choice. Outside of her red hair, and her signature makeup, Sunflower's design is mostly like that found in the original Bowsette comic that started this meme (By the way, if Toadette becomes "Peachette", shouldn't Bowser become "Peachser"? I'm just saying...). One last note; I was originally going to draw a different Halloween filler based on the idea of there being unwanted attention at a Halloween party. In honor of The Heroes Of C.R.A.S.H. joining the Collective of Heroes, I was going to promote it by having some other CoH characters show up, with Cannon unsuccessfully hitting on the superheroines and making a less-than-stellar first impression. However, since it was pretty late in the game for me to ask permission to use characters, and I already signed up to do a Halloween art trade for the CoH, I decided it would be best not to start things off by biting off more than I could chew. You should still totally read the other Collective of Heroes comics. The ones I've been reading have been pretty great. And their Featured Comic for the week is- GASP! It's The Heroes Of C.R.A.S.H.! :-D

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Not much to say about Part 2 that I haven't said about Part 1. I suppose I could mention that most of the junk food buffet that's been eaten was munched by Titanium Maiden. Her amazonian physique burns a lot of calories easily, leaving her with a need for a lot of food. She gets a little self-conscious about this, though, so she usually eats a big breakfast and a big lunch, so she can eat a relatively normal-sized meal for lunch while she's at school. You may have noticed that I haven't been posting my Inktober drawings to social media lately; I've gotten a bit behind, so I'm trying to do a bunch of drawings to make up for lost time. I'll be posting them soon! Anyway, I hope you all have a happy and safe Halloween! Be careful, have fun, and don't sue me. This filler is fan-art only, like I said.

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com It's that time of year again...! Halloween is here, and my heroes are in costume. For the first time in a while, I'm just drawing my main three. Getting back to basics. Making it a two-parter was partly out of necessity; I've been busy with job stuff and trying to crank out quality Inktober drawings (I've gotten a bit behind; I'll try to catch up during the weekend!), so I've had less time to devote to my comic than usual this week. So, I decided to begin the Halloween filler a bit early, and split it up between my 10/21 and 10/28 updates. As usual, my characters tend to follow certain themes while deciding their costumes. Belt Boy always dresses as a superhero, but has yet to wear a single DC or Marvel costume. Cannon always wears a costume that allows him to modify his helmet (He has spares). And Titanium Maiden always dresses up as a redhead. With the new anime My Hero Academia gaining popularity, I took notice. One character, named All Might, appears to be a perfect costume for Belt Boy. They're both blonde, often shown grinning heroically (and both often do so to hide their weaknesses), and wear an all-American red, white, and blue color scheme as a nod to many famous American superheroes (such as Superman, Captain America, and Wonder Woman, among others). Only thing All Might is missing is an awesome cape. Belt Boy always pulls off superhero poses, and I thought that showing off his specialized entertainment center remote deserved such a pose, especially in his super costume. Cannon is dressed as Shovel Knight from the video game of the same name (A game I own, but have yet to beat. I highly recommend it, though). As a major consumer of nerdy media, it's no surprise Cannon would dress as a video game hero, nor is it a surprise that he's amassed such a huge Halloween video collection and organized it. For the record, the two musical movies he's referring to are Rocky Horror Picture Show and Little Shop of Horrors (Unless I missed any good Halloween-appropriate musicals?*). While I watch a lot of Halloweeny movies this time of year, Cannon can probably stand much scarier movies than I can. Most of what I watch this time of year is animated (Like Nightmare Before Christmas... which I guess counts as a musical too. Maybe he categorizes the animated musicals seperately...?) or a spooky comedy (Like Ghostbusters). You won't catch me watching something like Nightmare on Elm Street; that movie scared the crap out of me when I was a young and impressionable.** Titanium Maiden's costume is a bit esoteric. While looking up redheaded characters to dress her as, I found a picture of a bunch of redheaded Disney characters, and in there was Pepper Ann. That seemed like a good, nostalgic fit for her costume, so I did a google image search, and found an image of Pepper Ann's superhero alter-ego from the dream sequence in her opening theme montage. This version of Pepper Ann seemed like an even better fit for Titanium Maiden, mainly due to her physique being a darn good match for my comic's heroine. So here's Titanium Maiden as "Super" Pepper Ann. By the way, a good number of those pizzas are for TM; while she tends to eat normal-sized lunches, her Amazonia physique burns a lot of calories, so she eats some sizeable breakfasts and dinners. Anyway, expect part two next week, readers! See you then! All Might and My Hero Academia are the copyrighted property of Kohei Horikoshi/SHUEISHA Inc. Shovel Knight is the copyrighted property of Yacht Club games. Pepper Ann is the copyrighted property of Disney. I only did the art, and I own Belt Boy, Cannon, and Titanium Maiden, as well as The Heroes of C.R.A.S.H. Please don't sue me. *A side note: Cannon's not a big fan of opera, so don't bother mentioning The Phantom of the Opera or Repo! the Genetic Opera. ** I was around 20 at the time.

theheroesofcrash.com I typically don't like to get into politics on my own site; I like to think of this comic an escape from the frustrations of the real world, and into the land of stories and fantasy. But the current situation needs to be addressed. This election is a big one, and it may not be farfetched to say that the state of the world hangs in the balance. I understand that many people are disappointed with all the choices we have. Clinton had that e-mail scandal. Johnson has shown in interviews that he doesn't know what certain government departments do, nor is he aware of current events in other countries. Stein also demonstrates a lack of knowledge of how government works, and - despite being a doctor - would not stand up for vaccinations so as not to dissuade anti-vaccination voters. And then there's Trump. Oy vey, there's Trump. Fact-checking website Politifact's scorecard for Donald Trump rates 70% of his statements as Mostly False or worse (19% are rated as Mostly False, 34% as False, and 17% as Pants on Fire), compared to 26% for Hillary (14% Mostly False, 10% False, and 2% Pants on Fire). Trump has been recorded making statements that insult or belittle women, African-Americans, Mexicans, Muslims, Jewish people, POW veterans, people with disabilities, and more. He wants to build a wall under the false pretense that most immigrants are criminals - a wall that not only will cost a ridiculous amount of money to build and maintain (that he can't make Mexico pay for), but will also probably result in MORE illegal immigrants due to overstaying their visas. He has encouraged violence at his rallies, bullies at polling locations, and racism nationwide. And finally, he's not all that good a businessman, as he owes his fortune to exploiting loopholes in bankruptcy law - a skill that cannot carry over to helping our own economy - and he is known for ripping off people in his business deals. Trump is, to put it simply, a con man. The message of my comic has always been that anyone has the potential to be a hero, even if they aren't perfect. All you need to do to be a hero is to fight injustice in some form, and Trump is injustice incarnate. Trump is hatred, racism, bigotry, violence, wrath, ignorance, greed, and pride, all wrapped up in one orange-painted package. Hillary may not be the candidate that we deserve, but she may be the one we need. You can be a hero, too, by voting for her this November. Please. On the lighter side of things, I'm pleased with Enticia and Titanium Maiden's costumes (as Patty from the new Ghostbusters and Wendy from Gravity Falls, respectively). Not only are both of them based on paranormal pop culture, but they're both based on something we've seen this year. Between my three characters, it's like a nice little time capsule for 2016. Oh, and if you're wondering why the haunted house patrons aren't regular cast members from my comic, it's because I wanted to keep my characters' ages vague, so they may not be old enough to vote. They are all - to borrow an expression from Homestar Runner - "Someteen" years old. Wishing you all a Happy Halloween, and the best of luck this coming election day.
