  1. http://TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Unk used Bear Hug! It's Super Effective! Necros may be quick enough to backflip over Sugar Rush at a moment's notice (He might have taken the hit if Belt Boy hadn't felt the need to tip him off with his "phone a friend" quip), but he's not strong enough to break free from Unk's grasp, especially when Unk's tall enough to pick him up off the ground. And the party's just getting started...! If you clicked on my site, you probably noticed a new button beside the logo. That's because The Heroes of C.R.A.S.H. has joined The Collective of Heroes - a webcomic community for superhero-themed webcomics! If you click that button on my page, you'll be presented with some cool new webcomics to check out (NOTE: Some of them are quite a bit more mature than my squeaky-clean comic, so please be aware if you're at work or if there's young'uns around). I hope you'll give it a click (especially since I spent about two hours trying to get the button's widget to look right on my page!) - I highly recommend Grrl Power, Gyno-Star, and Miss Melee, all of which can also be found on my Links page with descriptions. Whatever you click on, give 'em a visit, and tell them that Josh from TheHeroesOfCRASH.com sent ya'! FUN FACTOID: My webcomic is the second comic to have been a part of both the 910CMX community and the Collective of Heroes, the first being Grrl Power.
  2. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com NOTE: I seem to be having trouble accessing my website and uploading the latest comic; I'm posting it directly to social media in the meantime. I'll keep you all updated as I work to resolve this issue. It seems that Necros didn't count on Belt Boy having more friends around! So far, he's only seen Cannon, Dodge, and Dino-Mo. He only caught a glimpse of Sugar Rush, mistaking her for Belt Boy in my May 12th comic. Necros also seems to have misjudged Belt Boy's acting skills; he's been cool as a cucumber this whole time. Well, most of the time - he figured Necros might be able to fight Dino-Mo, but he didn't count on that taser-glove. It was a bit of (sorry for the obvious pun I'm about to make) a shock. Now that Belt Boy has regained the element of surprise, how is he going to use it? Tune in next week and every week, folks!
  3. 9/8/18 - Cipher Contest Conclusion!

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com I'm finally back from my long vacation! It was good to get away from it all, but I'm happy to be updating my site again. I want to thank everyone for their patience, and to congratulate Twitter user StarSumiaki on deciphering the most coded messages and winning my contest! Here's the deciphered letters for everyone else, with answers at the bottom. My comic will resume next week! I was planning on having more heroes' letters, but to be honest, I was also having lots of fun on my vacation, and I was having trouble thinking of other locations that posed good enough puzzles. I was thinking of having Dodge be in Santa Fe, and mentioning his dads having enjoyed songs about it from Rent and Newsies. Wasn't sure what to do for Dino-Mo. I was considering having Unk spend his vacation at my favorite childhood vacation spot, but quite frankly, it's gotten too crowded in recent years and I want to avoid giving it any publicity. In any event, I wound up just doing the seven heroes, and that wound up being more than enough anyway (Only two puzzles got solved at all). I initially was going to have Dexter showing off postcards, but I wound up having B.O.N.N.I.E. showing off digital messages, like status updates. It allowed me to use different-sized text boxes, and I like how it suggests B.O.N.N.I.E. ran a decryption program. It was also fun doing emoji versions of my heroes (Probably inspired by my having played Disney Emoji Blitz earlier in the day).
  4. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Belt Boy comes to a realization about what being a leader means (fairly literally!). One of my less-traditional layouts, as I tend to favor 4-panel strips in a 2x2 layout. If you count the bottom left panel as 9 panels instead of one, this strip has more panels than any other strip I've done, at a whopping 14! Speaking of that 9-in-one panel, that was especially fun to draw. I wanted to make sure that each mini-panel showed off its character through the background and his/her facial expression. Gelatin Boy is a bit nervous about Belt Boy's faith in him, and his background is based on the wobbly shape of his head. Dodge and Dino-Mo are calm, but impressed by Belt Boy's attitude, and their backgrounds show a flying dodgeball and a dinosaur fossil, respectively. Sugar Rush, as always, is enthusiastic and ready to help out her friend; she's got a peppermint swirl background. Titanium Maiden is feeling proud that Belt Boy seems to have gotten over his attitude problem from earlier and is showing his team proper respect, and she's thankful that he's okay; her background, of course, is her signature flower. Cannon's smirking as if to say, "About time you wised up, BB," as he sits in front of his purple-on-green stripe (His hand resting on the panel frame represents his tendency to break the fourth wall, by the way!). Unk is almost as pleased as Sugar Rush to help out a friend, but is a bit more chill about it, as he is regarding most things; his background shows off his shades. Enticia is moved by his attitude toward his team, especially as she's been reflecting on her own leadership abilities; the insignias from her "heartbreaker pants" (as I call them) are in the background. Jackknife, with his pointy insignia behind him, is doing that mock-gagging thing because he's sick of all this sappy emotion-sharing. And of course, in the last panel (or space between panels), Belt Boy and B.O.N.N.I.E. stand before Belt Boy's signature utility belt buckle. If you missed my announcement on the main page, I've greatly updated my Fan Art page! This includes two bits of fan art I got through social media this past week: Cannon by BigNoseBug on Twitter (a storyboard artist for the upcoming Thundercats cartoon), and Belt Boy by Ken Bailey (creator of EnergyGirl, and the winner of my last birthday contest)! Here they are:
  5. Comic 6/30/18 - The Trio Reunited

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com After nearly 1 1/2 years and 61 story strips apart, Belt Boy, Titanium Maiden, and Cannon are finally back together! Yes, I know, time passes slowly when you have a weekly strip. Still, I'm glad I made it weekly; when I was trying to do 3 updates a week, I was mostly doing fillers, and now I've mostly eliminated fillers outside of my birthday and holidays. If I were doing 3 updates a week, I doubt I'd be able to do canonical comics as well or as regularly. Drawing big groups like in the first panel is tricky; you don't want them all standing stiff (Unless they have a reason to be stiff, like if they're frozen with fear or something). You need to give everyone a different, interesting pose. That's a big plus to having a very cartoony art style; you can have everyone exaggeratedly express their emotions to spice things up! Sugar Rush may have been all for Gelatin Boy fighting his own battles, but that doesn't mean she isn't tempted to intervene. Jackknife does have that kind of attitude that screams, "Please punch me in the face!" I love the coloring I did for the backgrounds in this strip. Normally, I just use a darker shade of the color of the wall for the background shadow. This time, though, I drew a black shadow on a layer, and made it translucent with 10% visibility. I think I like it better. Do you?
  6. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Gelatin Boy may be slippery and silent, but he's got a few things to learn about being a spy...! Necros may not have quite as many gadgets as Belt Boy, but given that he created the Necrobots, is it any surprise he's got a holographic watch in his gloves? In case you were wondering, yes - Sugar Rush's face in the fourth panel IS a reference to the meme-ified Yellow Diamond "You CLOD!" face. Her expression looked a bit different before, but when I noticed it looked a little bit like Yellow Diamond, I decided to take it a bit further. It's a bit subtle, but I'm proud of the way I drew Dino-Mo in the last panel, with her leaning to one side, and having her hands be asymmetrical. I'm trying to get a bit more inventive with my poses, and I think it makes her look a bit livelier. Sorry for this being a relatively late update for the second week in a row; technical difficulties combined with my working and sleeping odd hours this week have complicated my webcomic work schedule a bit. I think things should be back to normal next week *knock on wood*, when my work schedule becomes a bit more regular.
  7. http://TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Woo-hoo! The comic is finally up! If you visited my website this morning and noticed it didn't update, that's because of some technical difficulties I've (mostly) got under control for the time being. Remember; if I'm unable to update, or if there are any other issues, I'll let you know on social media. Sometimes, I'll even show you my comic on social media when I'm not able to access my site, like I did today. In any event, if you're reading this, today's strip is up and running! Thank you for your patience! Not much to say about this strip, except that I love Sugar Rush's mock salute in panel 2. And that it's hard to draw a comic on a computer that intermittently freezes!
  8. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com The Necrobots corner their prey, and quickly discover they fell for the ol' switcheroo. After a few weeks of fillers around my birthday, the canonical comics have returned! Many thanks to Ken Bailey and YouWillNeverKnow for their submissions, and to all of you for being patient! This comic took me a while to figure out. Oddly enough, the first panel was the last one I sketched out; I had a clear vision for what I wanted to do in all the other panels, but I wasn't sure how I wanted to show the Necrobots giving chase. I was initially going to view them from a straight-on angle, but with their unusual curved necks and hunched-over posture, they look a lot better from a side or three-quarters view. I think the lead Necrobot's posture and legs show off how much of their design was inspired by velociraptors. This strip took quite a few layers to get the right look, especially for the last panel. That "ZOOM" streak is actually broken up into two layers; one that passes in front of the Necrobots and one behind them, so as to create the illusion of Sugar Rush zipping right through them. While working on this strip, I realized that the last time I drew Sugar Rush, she was off-model. A few strips ago, she was shown wearing no belt, red briefs, and white leggings. She's supposed to have a red belt, a white leotard, and red leggings. Whoops... Methinks that I forgot to draw one line, and it threw off all her colors from the waist down! I may go back and fix it... If I don't, I'll just say it's an homage to the many animation errors from the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon series.
  9. http://TheHeroesOfCRASH.com I mentioned last week that YouWillNeverKnow is a longtime fan, having submitted some redesigns of Miss Sunflower and Sister Sledgehammer for this year's traditional category, and having submitted multiple entries in past years' contests. Well, YWNK is such a dedicated fan, that he submitted an entry for BOTH categories this year, and won the Generated Fan Art category! He recreated all 10 of the student cast members using RPG Maker MV! His entry features (Clockwise from bottom left) Belt Boy, Sugar Rush, Unk, Gelatin Boy, Dodge, Titanium Maiden, Jackknife, Dino-Mo, Enticia, and Cannon. Thats quite an adventuring party! However, due to a lack of time (I had some family emergencies this week; don't worry, all is relatively well) and for the sake of simplicity, I only recreated my main three for his reward drawing. Maybe these three are the characters you start off with, and you need to find and unlock the other seven throughout the game...? I tweaked BB, Cannon, and TM's designs from his submission, partly because it's a little hard to make out all the details on their pixelated forms, and because I didn't want to give EVERYONE a blue cape. I made Cannon's into a scarf, which seemed a bit more anime-ninja-esque, and TM's into a neck accessory for her dress. I imagine that BB's some sort of knight or warrior and Cannon's a ninja, but I'm not sure what TM's class is in this drawing, based on her outfit. Perhaps she's an Amazon princess? Nah, if that were the case, she'd have a golden lasso and star-spangled swimsuit armor. If you have any thoughts as to what TM's class is, leave a comment. Perhaps you may even have some ideas as to what the other party members' classes are! Thanks again for the awesome fan art, YouWillNeverKnow! :-D This was quite a birthday treat!
  10. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Belt Boy's creation debuted WAAAAAY back in strip #96... over ten years ago! Up until now, the Detach-a-Cape has only been used in battles against Miss Sunflower. The first time kept Sunflower from grabbing him (Eat your heart out, Edna Mode!). It would later be mentioned in strip #253 before being used to taunt and misdirect Miss Sunflower six strips later. This strip shows a lot of mingling between Enticia and Dino-Mo's teams, which I kinda like. It gives the characters to bounce off each other in ways they haven't before. I particularly like the dynamic between our two orange friends, Unk and Gelatin Boy. The two are such a contrast - Unk being huge, powerful, and laid back, while GB is small, weak, and in a constant state of anxiety - that I kinda want to put them together in future strips, if I can find the opportunity...! The biggest obstacle between the two hanging out is probably Jackknife; the only reason he's not bothering them right now is because he's putting his stalking skills to good use as a lookout.
  11. Comic 1/27/18 - Multitasking Mayhem

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Enticia accepts Dino-Mo's accusations; conversely, Belt Boy can't accept defeat. I like how this storyline's been exploring Enticia and Belt Boy's characters in different ways. Enticia has always been a flawed and somewhat egotistical character, who has put distance between herself and others, and allowed people to get hurt in the process. Now, she's seriously considering what people think about her and trying to listen. Belt Boy, on the other hand, has always been a seemingly perfect boy scout-type, but while he's friendly with others, he's hard on himself. Now, he's sinking further into his delusion that perfection is attainable, and he's becoming blinded to what he's doing. On a related note, I mentioned in last week's commentary that there's a key difference between Enticia and her mother; namely that Rose Greene's flirtiness was a string of short romances, while Enticia's playing for keeps. Enticia gathered the whole idea of dating lots of boys in a casual way, but her mom never explained a whole lot about ending relationships, apparently.
  12. Comic 1/20/18 - Pet Names

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Some insight into how Enticia learned about relationships. Although Violet's behavior/advice explains quite a bit about what Enticia did, there is a key difference between how the two have treated boys. Looking at Dino-Mo's expression - which has suddenly changed from surprised (and possibly sympathetic) to annoyed - she may have caught on. Have you? In the early days of my strip, I wanted there to be at least one established couple; having EVERY character be un-attached seemed a little unrealistic - or at least boring - to me. I wound up pairing Sugar Rush and Dodge, and that pairing has helped influence Dodge's personality a bit. Dodge does have a wild streak that he lets out on occasion, which Sugar Rush loves. But he can also be patient and logical, which helps balance out Sugar Rush's impulsiveness (not that impulsiveness is necessarily a bad thing). However, Sugar Rush hasn't been the only one to make me think how I wrote Dodge's character; his protective nature was influenced by having the often-defenseless Gelatin Boy as his best friend. Perhaps it's because of his sports theme that Dodge has grown to be a team player in his team and in my comic's cast! Ah, the return of character-colored flashbacks. Every character's flashbacks are a different color. Enticia's are tinted in browns and reds, to match her hair, skin, makeup, and the broken-heart-halves on her pants (And because using blacks and grays to match her clothes and shoes didn't look vibrant enough). Similarly, Belt Boy's have been yellow to match his hair and his belt buckle (and, admittedly, because yellow is my favorite color and he's the semi-central character), Cannon's were green to match his armor, and Titanium Maiden's have been pink to match her scrunchie, lipstick, shoes, and the flower on her shirt. Hmmm... in hindsight, this may get me backed into a corner if other characters have flashbacks... Obviously, Gelatin Boy would have orange, but what would Dodge have, if orange, red, and yellow are used up? And what would Sugar Rush have? In the future, I may do two-tone flashbacks. I might have to study how Kathleen Jacques colors her Band Vs. Band comic (Which should be on my totally-needs-to-be-updated Links page)... As far as that “bundle of hormones and crazy” comment, I think it sums up teens pretty well (although it doesn’t necessarily disqualify them from serious, meaningful relationships). To be fair though, I think “bundle of crazy” (minus the hormones part) sums up most adults pretty well, too. Just look at the loon that adults got into office a year ago today.
  13. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com A callback to comic #312, this probably won't be the last time we hear this phrase. And yes, we will soon get an explanation of what Mrs. Greene has to do with Enticia's attitudes on relationships... to some extent, anyway. Enticia's got a lot going on below the surface, and I look forward to exploring more of her character in the future. :-) Titanium Maiden and Dino-Mo, as you can see from panel #2, are still there. TM tends to be quiet and gives other people space, whereas Dino-Mo's still taking all this in. If comic #475 and the last panel of today's strip didn't make it clear, Sugar Rush is canonically bi. While she finds other women attractive, she's quite happy in her monogamous dating relationship with Dodge. The two of them happen to be a loving, passionate young couple who just happen to high-five each other whenever a beautiful woman passes by (I think I let Marshall and Lily from How I Met Your Mother influence how I depict their relationship a smidge). Oh, almost forgot; Enticia's last line was, at one point, going to be, "I'm being punished, aren't I?!", borrowing a quote from one of my favorite movies: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze. I decided to skip that quote and use some dialogue that made Enticia's feelings of frustration and guilt a bit more apparent.
  14. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Enticia realizes that her confession may have been a bit easier to overhear than she intended. She's not embarassed about Dodge and Sugar Rush knowing she's sorry about Bastion - he was their teammate and friend, too - but she IS embarassed by the fact that she now realizes how loud she was and that almost anyone could have heard her. Thankfully for Enticia, there are almost no students left in the school at this time of day to know she's afraid that she's turned into her mother. I'm mostly happy with the art for today's strip; the one thing that bothers me is the third panel; I realized after I finished the whole thing that Enticia and Titanium Maiden are in similar poses. Granted, TM is grasping her head in frustration and Enticia is nervously scratching her head, but they both have their right elbow out. It's probably a nitpick, but I can't help but think it could have been better. On the plus side, I'm happy with how I drew Sugar Rush skidding to a stop in panel two (I fiddled with her pose quite a bit before I got it to look right), and I like Enticia's toony expression in the last panel. Overall, not a bad comic to kick off the new year!
  15. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Titanium Maiden seems to be sorting out the best way to keep everyone under control as they search for Belt Boy. Cannon seems to be abnormally concise in his speech. And Jackknife appears to be the obnoxious pain in the butt that he usually is. Will these groupings work out? Will they find Belt Boy before he flips out or gets clobbered by Necrobots (or both)? Stay tuned! In today's strip, Titanium Maiden is showing off one of her best qualities: she can be level-headed when everyone is freaking out. Of course, when it comes to personal problems, her anxiety comes out to party. Both of these aspects of her personality come from me... it always seems easier to calmly deal with other people's problems than with your own. Cannon's usually shooting off his mouth even more often than his weapon, but surprisingly, he's only got one word to say in today's comic. Between this and his revealing his missing hand, Cannon's acting awful uncharacteristic of his usual self. This is because Cannon has two traits that occasionally conflict with each other: his self-centeredness and his loyalty to his best friend, Belt Boy. Right now, his concern for his friend has overridden his need to make snarky one-liners, and most of his sensitivity regarding his hand. Until he knows BB is safe or until he feels a need to defend himself, Cannon's probably going to be stuck in this mode. I think that Unk and Jackknife make an unusual pair. Jackknife has all of Cannon's obnoxiousness, but none of his charm or moments of selflessness. It makes you wonder why a nice guy like Unk hangs around him at all. While it's not evident whether Jackknife sees Unk as a friend, a sidekick, or a lackey (or some combination of the three), Unk is generally the easygoing type who will put up with a lot. I think to some extent, he listens to Jackknife just because no one else will, and Unk knows how it feels to never be listened to.
  16. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Cannon and Titanium Maiden rarely see eye-to-eye, let alone get the same idea without having to say anything, so this is an unusual situation indeed. I was going to show the flow chart with the words "mad" and "afraid" on each arrow, but it didn't look right. I was also considering making the "afraid" icons purple, like Fear in the movie Inside-Out, but yellow seemed better for this picture. I really love how Titanium Maiden's poses look in this comic. I think I got her physique looking better than usual; sometimes arms are tricky, especially around the elbows. I also love the facial expressions she's making, particularly in the last panel. Although if she closed her eyes, you'd think she was mimicking an Emperor's New Groove meme.
  17. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Seems Belt Boy's definition of "doing poorly" on a quiz is not the same as everyone else's. But Cannon seems genuinely worried - why is that...? Stay tuned, readers! I could have had them all say, "WHAT?!?", but I felt that just using a period conveyed their annoyed tone of voice better. Much as I love making exaggerated, toony characters, I also love understatement. While I posted about these guys on some of my social media accounts already, I once again would like to acknowledge all the people I met at Lehigh Valley Comic Con, and hope that you'll check out their websites and social media pages. So here they are again: - John from Frugal Mule Games, from whom I got a fun caveman-themed card/dice game called "Stoned". I also understand they have pirate- and space-themed variants coming out, so keep your eyes peeled! - Super Comic (Official), whose superhero comic I totally want to get next time (Or maybe even online); for now, I got one of their neat figurines of their main character, Blitz. She's on a team of young, inexperienced superheroes trying to make a name for themselves. Gee, I wonder why I find THAT so interesting...? *Knowing wink!* - Artist Joseph Wigfield of WhatWouldWigDraw.com, who - to answer the question his URL poses - draws a lot of things, but is particularly known for drawing superheroes as pugs. Because pugs are awesome, adorable little furry meatballs, and putting them in comic art instantly makes them better. - Artist D Forrest Fox, who has made a lot of cool art prints. My personal favorites include ones based on the Rankin-Bass holiday specials: I've got my eye on the Miser Brothers; that would be a great picture to hang up around the holidays (And everyone knows I'm a festive fanatic every December 1st!) - Artist Darren Auck, who's worked on many a comic book for big name companies. I particularly like his work on Nickelodeon properties - specifically Rocko's Modern Life and Ren & Stimpy! - Artist David Bancroft of DMBillustrations.com, who does some rather pretty prints, sketches, and portraits! He's also self-published the zombie coloring book, "The Coloring Dead", for my friends who like zombies.
  18. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com As the title suggests, Belt Boy may not be near the proverbial frying pan, but he's definitely in the fire. An awkward argument between friends is nowhere near as tense as a battle for your life! I'm pretty happy with how the last panel turned out. The only thing I wonder if I should have done differently is skip the red/green coloring. You'll notice that Necros, once again, has the evil shade of lime green by his face, while BB counters it with red. There's but ONE WEEK LEFT to enter my birthday fan art contest! I'll be posting the winning entry a day late, since I'll be engaging in some birthday festivities that will have me away from my computer. If you want to enter, do it by 11:59 PM on May 19th! Check out the Rules page for more info!
  19. Comic 4/29/17 - "You" Times Two, "Eep" Times Three(p) TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Just to be clear, I'm counting last week's strip, so Dino-Mo has dramatically shouted "YOU!" twice in a row, eliciting an "Eep" from Enticia, Dodge, and Sugar Rush, hence the title. I'm still working on the next storyline, but I'm hoping that I can keep the number of characters small. These big group shots are a pain in the tuchus, especially when working with a limited number of frames. Granted, this is a webcomic; I could always add more frames. But I would like to print these out in an actual comic, and so in more recent years, I've been doing my best to keep the format consistent. I really like Dino-Mo's speech bubble in the last frame. While this is a bit of deja vu from the previous comic, Dino-Mo is getting angrier and angrier, so her firey speech balloon from the last strip is now burnt and crispy. By the way folks, DON'T FORGET ABOUT MY CONTEST! It ends May 19th, and EVERYONE WHO ENTERS GETS A PRIZE!!! Click the button on my site's main page for rules and details!
  20. http://theheroesofcrash.com Belt Boy's getting a little tired of getting grabbed by the arm and yanked off-panel... and Cannon's not even remotely tired of bragging about his victory against Jackknife. BTW, if you saw my Daily Drawing for Friday 9/23, you realized that I took a LOT longer drawing this than I meant to, as I had done most of the inking in a "sketch" layer. Drawing in the wrong layer is the bane of digital artists everywhere. Addressing this comic's title... I know I tend to make fun of Michael Bay, but I can't help but wonder if Zack Snyder's worse. Snyder's like what Bay would be if he tried to be serious. Say what you will about Bay's lack of talent, over-inflated ego, and terrible treatment of women (It's all true), but at least he gets that there's an element of silliness to the imaginary worlds of the Transformers and Ninja Turtles (not that he harnesses it effectively, but at least he acknowledges that it's there). Snyder, conversely, denounced She-Hulk and the Martian Manhunter as legit superheroes, calling She-Hulk essentially a trophy for the male power fantasy that is the Hulk (If he knew comics, he'd know that they're cousins, so... EW. NO.), and Martian Manhunter a stupid character (And yet he considers Aquaman to be fine). Plus, despite getting some elements of Batman V Superman, let's face facts: he got some elements very very wrong (I highly recommend watching the Nostalgia Critic review). This comic, thankfully, is silly and colorful and everything that Snyder is not. And I'm darn proud of it.
  21. theheroesofcrash.com Sugar Rush is capable of slowing down her speech when she's in "hyper" mode. However, as she focuses herself, she speaks like someone singing marcato - giving each note (or in her case, word) a little "thrust" of emphasis. I hope that what she's doing is evident in her hyphenated dialogue and the way she grits her teeth. Belt Boy's "shoulder angel" and "shoulder devil" (yes, that's a reference to The Emperor's New Groove) are given dark yellow outlines to indicate that they're all in Belt Boy's head. I made Belt Boy's angel look like some sort of angelic warrior, while his devil looks like a supervillain. Both seemed apt for Belt Boy's good/evil sides.
  22. Well, it's been a while, due to my trip to Texas (and subsequent post-vacation recovery), but fillers are done, and it's back to the story! The punchline of today's comic actually harkens back to some commentary for the 4/30/16 comic, where I mentioned Sugar Rush's previous attempt at tasting her dessert-like teammate. Of course, Gelatin Boy is half gelatin, half boy, and he tastes like a combination of the two. Not very appetizing. Also, not sure if I mentioned this before, but Sugar Rush won't have any digestive problems with those erasers; she's got a cast-iron stomach, and has eaten stranger things before. Now if they were pencils, they'd probably be sitting in her stomach like lead! Buh-DUM-tch!
  23. theheroesofcrash.com While Gelatin Boy is questioning Sugar Rush's common sense, it prompts me to consider the notion that common sense isn't so common. In college, I studied Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences; simply put, it's the idea that there's different kinds of smarts, like book-smarts, people-smarts, body-smarts, etc. Everyone is smart, just in different ways. While my experiences in the realm of education taught me that everyone can be smart, my experiences in working retail taught me that the opposite is also true: everyone can be a bonehead sometimes. Just as we all have our mental strengths, we all have our weaknesses, too. So while Gardner has his theory of multiple intelligences, let me take this moment to call dibs on Winthrop's Theory of Multiple Stupidities (Although I'll likely change the name to something less offensive, but equally catchy and expedient). It's true of real people, and people in my comic... especially when it comes to social cues. Cannon doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut, Sugar Rush acts (and eats) before she thinks, and Belt Boy... well, you could probably write a book on the stuff he doesn't grasp. So if everyone's got these mental Achilles' heels, then perhaps what one person considers common sense may not be quite so obvious to someone else...? Maybe that's why it's only "common" sense instead of unanimous sense: because it's not obvious to everyone. But that's just a theory. A BRAIN THEORY! Thanks for reading! (All apologies to MatPat for that last joke!)
  24. theheroesofcrash.com Seems that Belt Boy's caught in the middle of another team's problems... but that's par for the course for him today. Will Gelatin Boy remain unbullied for the rest of the day? Or will Jackknife best our stressed-out hero? Stay tuned, folks! I'm really happy with the lower-left panel. Foreshortening is one of my problem areas in terms of my art, and I've been working on it. There's a method of drawing your character in boxes to keep him/her in proportion, and it seems to work for me. I also like the backgrounds I used here; Dino-Mo's background is meant to remind you of a blazing fire, whereas Belt Boy's background is strongly anime-inspired. That anime influence stuck out at me as I was creating it; my art style has shifted away from anime/manga and more towards western retro styles, but it still incorporates elements of both.
