  1. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Seems that Belt Boy's grade is more serious than his friends thought. And you can tell that Cannon's being serious because of what he's drawing attention to. Can Cannon - with the help of the other heroes - save his best friend from having a meltdown and/or getting his butt kicked by Necrobots? What is the mysterious accident that befell Cannon? Will Jackknife manage to not be a total pain in the butt? Stay tuned for the answers to these questions and many more, readers! Belt Boy's situation is based on a personal issue I had back in school. When I was in elementary school, I always got good grades pretty easily (Outside of "timed tests" in math, where you had to do as many simple math problems as you could in one minute. That took some practice.). But when I went to junior high school, I found myself being really challenged for the first time. There was a lot more information to read, especially in science and social studies, and it didn't always stick in my head so effortlessly. This was the first time school REALLY started to stress me out. Being the genius type, Belt Boy absorbs knowledge as easily as I did back in elementary school, so if his grades slip, you can tell his head's not totally in the game. We haven't seen much of Cannon's right arm stump throughout the series - pretty much just a brief scene in the storyline The Dating Scheme. Between that and a brief mention in The Obligatory Origin Story Flashback, it's apparent that Cannon doesn't like to talk much about his missing hand, so if he's drawing attention to it - especially in front of his hated rival, Jackknife - he must be MAJORLY worried about Belt Boy. Still, he's sensitive enough about it to make sure everyone knows not to bring it up. I tried to make sure that the other characters' reactions in the final panel showed off what kind of characters they are. Jackknife is a superficial jerk, so he's weirded out by Cannon's arm stump. Titanium Maiden stands rigidly, trying to not make any movements or facial expressions Cannon might find offensive when he's being this personal. And Gelatin Boy may be one flavor of gelatin, but he's 31 flavors of awkward, so he's not as good at playing it cool. Originally, Sugar Rush was going to be the the third hero instead of Gelatin Boy, and she was just going to say, "Nope!". But because of how everyone was standing in the last strip, I decided to use the next person in "line": Gelatin Boy. I wound up changing GB's line from "Nope!" to "What missing hand?" at the last minute before saving this comic; I felt it fit his personality better and let us go out on a small joke that doesn't undermine the feeling of awkwardness and tension that permeates the final panel. Also, Cannon's head pose in this panel was totally inspired by the Peanuts characters, whose movie I was watching while working on this. I'm feeling pretty tired, as I pulled an all-nighter following a busy week in order to finish today's comic on time, so I'm gonna hit the hay. Or at least fall asleep with my finger on the Z key of my keyboard. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
  2. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Seems Belt Boy's definition of "doing poorly" on a quiz is not the same as everyone else's. But Cannon seems genuinely worried - why is that...? Stay tuned, readers! I could have had them all say, "WHAT?!?", but I felt that just using a period conveyed their annoyed tone of voice better. Much as I love making exaggerated, toony characters, I also love understatement. While I posted about these guys on some of my social media accounts already, I once again would like to acknowledge all the people I met at Lehigh Valley Comic Con, and hope that you'll check out their websites and social media pages. So here they are again: - John from Frugal Mule Games, from whom I got a fun caveman-themed card/dice game called "Stoned". I also understand they have pirate- and space-themed variants coming out, so keep your eyes peeled! - Super Comic (Official), whose superhero comic I totally want to get next time (Or maybe even online); for now, I got one of their neat figurines of their main character, Blitz. She's on a team of young, inexperienced superheroes trying to make a name for themselves. Gee, I wonder why I find THAT so interesting...? *Knowing wink!* - Artist Joseph Wigfield of WhatWouldWigDraw.com, who - to answer the question his URL poses - draws a lot of things, but is particularly known for drawing superheroes as pugs. Because pugs are awesome, adorable little furry meatballs, and putting them in comic art instantly makes them better. - Artist D Forrest Fox, who has made a lot of cool art prints. My personal favorites include ones based on the Rankin-Bass holiday specials: I've got my eye on the Miser Brothers; that would be a great picture to hang up around the holidays (And everyone knows I'm a festive fanatic every December 1st!) - Artist Darren Auck, who's worked on many a comic book for big name companies. I particularly like his work on Nickelodeon properties - specifically Rocko's Modern Life and Ren & Stimpy! - Artist David Bancroft of DMBillustrations.com, who does some rather pretty prints, sketches, and portraits! He's also self-published the zombie coloring book, "The Coloring Dead", for my friends who like zombies.
  3. 8/5/17 - Working on Networking

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Despite the fact that I've still been having a few computer issues and more than a few thunderstorms keeping me from working on my computer for long periods of time, I haven't been slacking off with my comic. In fact, I'm working on promoting it so that I can reach a wider audience! First of all, in addition to the Facebook group, I have now given The Heroes Of C.R.A.S.H. a proper Facebook page (Admittedly, when I was starting out, I wasn't really sure of the difference between the two), which you can visit by clicking the Social Media button on my site's home page. Second, if you've been following my Facebook group, I'm going to be attending the Lehigh Valley Comic Con today! It's been a while since I've been to a small convention, and while the big ones like Wizard World are a lot of fun, I love how small cons are more relaxed and less crowded, so I'm looking forward to it. Third, while I'm there, I'm going to be handing out some sweet new business cards that look like what I've posted today, with some additional info on the back. If you are reading this AFTER Saturday, August 5th because you saw my Facebook page or got one of my cards at the convention, WELCOME! I hope you enjoy my comic, and that you'll visit my Social Media links to spread the word about how much you enjoy it!
  4. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Seems that Cannon, of all people, has stumbled onto Belt Boy's secret...! What grade or comment is on that test? What will he do with this information? Is "Sweet and sour dipping sauce" a good exclamation? Stay tuned, everyone? While I'm trying to do better with drawing anatomy, I try to balance it out with style. In panel two, I let Gelatin Boy get a little off-model to showcase his rubbery-ness. He is made of gelatin, after all, so I tend to have a bit more fun with "squash and stretch" on him than any other character in the comic. I love the fourth panel. The lighting, Cannon's facial expression, and (as I have often used in the past), those tiny words in a large word balloon to indicate a hushed, yet anxious tone. I wanted to give him some exclamation to say, and I knew it had to start with "Sweet" (Like any exclamation spoken by Hermes from Futurama). The first thing that popped into my mind was "sweet and sour dipping sauce", and so it went from there. I can't help but wonder if my idea was subconsciously inspired by Gravity Falls' Dipper "Lord Dippingsauce" Pines.
  5. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Not much to say that I haven't said in today's filler. Keep following me on social media to stay posted with everything that's going on with me and with the comic; if I'm ever unable to post to the site, I'll let you know what's going on through Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook. Speaking of the interwebs, if you haven't done so already, please contact your representatives as well as the FCC and tell them to keep Title II and Net Neutrality. Otherwise, my webcomic, every webcomic, and just about anything that people create on the 'net could be in danger. Do your part to protect freedom of speech!
  6. Comic 7/8/17 - Strong Silent Types

http://TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Seems that there's still plenty of arguing amongst Belt Boy's friends back at C.R.A.S.H., all of them unaware that their friend is in danger. Will they be able to settle their differences? Will they focus their anger on Belt Boy after those promises he made? Will Titanium Maiden get some aspirin for that headache she's clearly getting? The answers to these questions and more will be coming soon, so stay tuned! At one point, I considered having Gelatin Boy interject in Comic #670's argument between his teammates, asking if he had any say in the matter and his friends all shouting "NO!" at him. However, that didn't seem entirely in character for him; he's still the type to avoid confrontation, be it among friends or foes. I keep needing to remind myself to draw Enticia's earrings whenever I draw her. It's a little detail that I don't always think about. I'm sure someone could browse through my archives and play "Spot the Missing Earring", searching for panels where I accidentally drew her without it. I believe I skipped the earring throughout the Gym-Nauseum storyline, but to be fair, I think she would take them off when going to the gym. The title of today's strip refers to both Unk and Titanium Maiden. I enjoy subverting tropes and cliches - neither of my super-muscular characters are stereotypical "muscleheads", nor are they brutes. Unk is fairly quiet and zen, while Titanium Maiden has had (and still has) quite a bit of shyness and awkwardness to overcome.
  7. theheroesofcrash.com I'm back from a fun birthday weekend, and so instead of my usual Saturday Morning update, we have a bit of a "Sunday Night Special"! I proudly present the winning entry - or rather, entries - to my Fan Art Contest's Traditional Fan Art category! CD Rudd, creator of the webcomic SailorSun.Org, has done a bit of a crossover (and not the first one!) between my cast and his! What would happen if Belt Boy, Cannon, and Titanium Maiden were to hang out with Honey, Bay, and Auction Guy (respectively)? By the way, Bay has nothing to worry about; Belt Boy is, indeed, only pointing a camera at her. He is in full control of any weapons on his belt, and he's too innocent to even consider anything else she might be suggesting (This IS a PG-rated comic, after all!). You can see his individual drawings on my website, and you can see a link to his webcomic (with a brief discription) over at my Links page! For winning the contest, CD Rudd has won the right to choose the subject of the next HoC Desktop, and I'll be sending him a little sketch in the very near future. Also receiving a sketch soon will be devoted HoC fan TheSlugCar, for his creative "BonnieBot" entry (Which answers the question "What would happen if B.O.N.N.I.E. downloaded her brain into a MON-type Necrobot?"). Thanks for the awesome fan art, guys! This was a great birthday! :-D One last thing: Due to a lack of entries, the Generated Fan Art Contest has been extended! If you submit a video game avatar that resembles one of my characters by 11:59 PM (EST) on Friday, May 26th, your entry will still be considered for the contest! You could win a sketch, or I could create a cool drawing based on your entry to be publicly displayed on the site! Whether it's a Mii or a Sim or whatever, you have almost a week to make it!
  8. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com As the title suggests, Belt Boy may not be near the proverbial frying pan, but he's definitely in the fire. An awkward argument between friends is nowhere near as tense as a battle for your life! I'm pretty happy with how the last panel turned out. The only thing I wonder if I should have done differently is skip the red/green coloring. You'll notice that Necros, once again, has the evil shade of lime green by his face, while BB counters it with red. There's but ONE WEEK LEFT to enter my birthday fan art contest! I'll be posting the winning entry a day late, since I'll be engaging in some birthday festivities that will have me away from my computer. If you want to enter, do it by 11:59 PM on May 19th! Check out the Rules page for more info!
  9. Comic 4/29/17 - "You" Times Two, "Eep" Times Three(p) TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Just to be clear, I'm counting last week's strip, so Dino-Mo has dramatically shouted "YOU!" twice in a row, eliciting an "Eep" from Enticia, Dodge, and Sugar Rush, hence the title. I'm still working on the next storyline, but I'm hoping that I can keep the number of characters small. These big group shots are a pain in the tuchus, especially when working with a limited number of frames. Granted, this is a webcomic; I could always add more frames. But I would like to print these out in an actual comic, and so in more recent years, I've been doing my best to keep the format consistent. I really like Dino-Mo's speech bubble in the last frame. While this is a bit of deja vu from the previous comic, Dino-Mo is getting angrier and angrier, so her firey speech balloon from the last strip is now burnt and crispy. By the way folks, DON'T FORGET ABOUT MY CONTEST! It ends May 19th, and EVERYONE WHO ENTERS GETS A PRIZE!!! Click the button on my site's main page for rules and details!
  10. theheroesofcrash.com Awkward moment alert! Dino-Mo's typically fairly laid back, but if you threaten her teammates, you're pushing her buttons, and she's a bit more likely to hold a grudge. Enticia's already on her bad side, and it looks like Belt Boy's getting there, too! The first panel is a bit of a callback to the 7/3/07 strip, in which Cannon falls out of the school upon leaving the front doors. I know it's not practical for a school to float in the air, but I still like the effect, and it seems that any superhero should be able to reach a door a mere twelve feet in the air. Getting down, apparently, is harder... unless you have wings, or the strength to pull of a "superhero landing". Hey, just reminding you that there's still a month left in my contest, and EVERYONE who enters gets a prize! Just in case you forgot...
  11. theheroesofcrash.com One of my favorite website traditions is the annual April Fools' Day filler. I'm not big on practical jokes, myself... but Cannon sure is, which is why he pranks a character from someone else's webcomic every year! This year's target is the Happy Homemaker - a supervillainess bent on taking away her fellow woman's choice to have a career. Her arch-nemesis is the feminist superheroine Gyno-Star, who appears in the last panel. If you want to read a feminist webcomic whose wit and flawed heroes are reminiscent of one of the GOOD seasons of The Simpsons, then check out The Adventures of Gyno-Star via my Links page! Many thanks to the talented Rebecca Cohen for letting me borrow her characters! Last year, I had considered having Cannon play a prank on Gyno-Star, but I couldn't think of a practical joke that was clever enough. I like to make Cannon's pranks take advantage of the target's attributes, or at least be poetic in some way. While Gyno-Star does have a few character flaws (she can be a bit vain or self-absorbed at times), I didn't feel like Cannon's pranks could take full advantage of that, and I felt that it wouldn't be right for Cannon to play a prank that mocked Gyno-Star's feminist ideals (That's the sort of thing that Gyno-Star's villains would do). This year, I considered Gyno-Star again, but then I thought it would be fun for him to prank one of Gyno-Star's villains, and playing this joke on the Happy Homemaker just sprang to mind. I have to be honest, Happy Homemaker looks kinda like an evil version of my own mom in that first panel. But I suppose that she is, essentially, an evil mom, having unsuccessfully attempted to rebrand herself as "The Stay-At-Home-Mom". I had fun drawing her retro 1950s look, which seems to work well with my drawing style (Which was partially inspired by retro-style cartoons). Sharp-eyed viewers might notice that one picture frame reads "Lair Sweet Lair" (although it's partly obscured by a text balloon). I liked that gag, as well as "Out Darn Spot" (If that's not the name of a cleaning product, it should be!). Drawing this comic was a lot of fun, which probably made it easier to stay focused and complete it in record time (I submitted it to Rebecca Cohen for approval before posting it). I consider it an honor that she liked the concept when I first proposed it, and an even greater honor that she liked the finished product! :-D I do like making fan art, but if you want to let me know how much you like MY characters, don't forget that I still have my annual Fan Art Contest going on! You can click the "Contest Rules an' Stuff" button on my main page in order to read the rules in FULL detail. Be aware that I've tweaked the contest this year, and now EVERYONE is guaranteed a prize! So click that button for all the specific details, and have fun entering!
  12. Filler 12/24/16 - A Christmas Wish

theheroesofcrash.com Well, folks, at the time that I'm typing this, it's in the wee small hours of the morning on Christmas Eve! By sundown it'll be Chanukkah, by tomorrow it'll be Christmas, and the day after that is Kwanzaa! There's so many wonderful holidays this weekend, and - especially in times like these where there's a lot of outspoken hatred and prejudice - it's important that we take the time to celebrate and appreciate both what makes us different AND what we share in common. We all have different, beautiful ways of celebrating the same values of love and goodwill towards others, and we should do our best to show that throughout the year. So whether you celebrate none, one, or many of the holidays occurring this December, know that I wish you a happy and safe holiday season. I know I've had Muppets on the brain a bit lately (You've seen my Daily Drawings, right?), but I honestly thought that this quote was a good one to use; despite being from a Christmas song, it reaches out to people of all faiths. Jim Henson was a man who appreciated diversity and sought to give people an idea of what a peaceful world could be like through educational shows like Sesame Street or the social commentary of Fraggle Rock, so it seems more than appropriate to use his words for this filler. Wishing you all Happy Holidays! Canonical comics return in January! :-)
  13. Comic 11/5/16 - The Hurt Ego Locker

theheroesofcrash.com Seems Belt Boy can't bury his metaphorical demons under activities... or under all the junk in his locker. The third panel was originally going to look a bit different; the shadow on the wall would have cracks in it in the section near BB's head. However, that spot was the only place where his thought balloon looked right, so I decided to nix the representational imagery.
  14. theheroesofcrash.com Today's comic shows that Belt Boy always has a plan, TM has a forgiving temperament, and Cannon has a sweet tooth (a bit like his real-life counterpart). Belt Boy (as well as the other members of my comic's main trio) is largely based off me, so we share a lot of qualities. One way in which we differ is that I would probably be blurting out apology after apology in a situation like this, whereas BB sees any mistake as a temporary setback that he can fix... especially when he's in "perfectionist mode". Guess the title of today's comic is a bit ironic, as he never officially apologizes in this strip.
  15. theheroesofcrash.com Seems that Cannon and Titanium Maiden are displeased with their fearless - or rather, clueless - leader. Has he bitten off more than his team can chew? Is that a weird metaphor if one person's biting and three people are chewing? And has Cannon ever had a hot date? Stay tuned for the next installment for the answers to none of these questions! I love understatement being used to convey humor, which is probably why I love having my characters not getting explicitly angry and just speaking iciliy, indicated by my word balloons with icicles on them. Decided to try a different tool today to draw the icicles on this time around... what do you think of 'em?
  16. theheroesofcrash.com No surprise, but this comic was a LOT of fun to draw. While I am trying to do more realistic anatomy, being able to show off my characters' more toony side is a lot of fun to draw, and lends itself to better comedy. At one point, I was going to have Belt Boy merely raise his hand in that last panel, but I decided to exaggerate it and have him stand dramatically on the desk. I think it's funnier, and it fits with BB's personality rather well. The backgrounds were a lot of fun as well. The last panel was originally going to be gold, but it looked too similar to the orange panel above it. I decided on blue to contrast with the previous two panels, and to suggest that Belt Boy's psyche got a bit of relief from not holding in his heroic ambitions (although that relief will no doubt be short-lived!). The first panel is a callback to Belt Boy's first meeting Enticia; she tried to seduce him with her powers, but Belt Boy was focused on getting to class on time, and everything was colored in grayscale save for the clock to emphasize his focus. This time around, Belt Boy is focusing on his own problems, which is why he's the only thing in color. And yes, that IS a Taz-Mania reference in the first panel.
  17. What's this? More new characters? Well, this is a classroom. You didn't think Belt Boy, Cannon, and Titanium Maiden were the only three students in there, didja? You've seen Road Racer before - near the beginning of the Gym Nauseum storyline (on 2/28/12). Her design is partly based off of two famous speedsters; the Road Runner and Sonic the Hedgehog. Her color scheme mostly borrows from the former, and her ponytail is supposed to be like the plumage on the Road Runner's head. The jet plane-like fins on her pilot-like cap are inspired by Sonic's spikes, as is her running posture. The green strap and lenses to her goggles are inspired by Sonic's green eyes. Orange Ocelot is a character I've been thinking of adding for a while. Lots of superheroes have color-based names: Red Tornado, Blue Beetle, Green Lantern/Arrow... but nothing orange. I wanted to stick with alliteration, and my mind settled on "ocelot", because it's fun to say and not a commonly-known animal. Plus, I thought it might be a funny running gag if everyone mistakes him for a tiger or leopard or other feline.
  18. http://theheroesofcrash.com Belt Boy's getting a little tired of getting grabbed by the arm and yanked off-panel... and Cannon's not even remotely tired of bragging about his victory against Jackknife. BTW, if you saw my Daily Drawing for Friday 9/23, you realized that I took a LOT longer drawing this than I meant to, as I had done most of the inking in a "sketch" layer. Drawing in the wrong layer is the bane of digital artists everywhere. Addressing this comic's title... I know I tend to make fun of Michael Bay, but I can't help but wonder if Zack Snyder's worse. Snyder's like what Bay would be if he tried to be serious. Say what you will about Bay's lack of talent, over-inflated ego, and terrible treatment of women (It's all true), but at least he gets that there's an element of silliness to the imaginary worlds of the Transformers and Ninja Turtles (not that he harnesses it effectively, but at least he acknowledges that it's there). Snyder, conversely, denounced She-Hulk and the Martian Manhunter as legit superheroes, calling She-Hulk essentially a trophy for the male power fantasy that is the Hulk (If he knew comics, he'd know that they're cousins, so... EW. NO.), and Martian Manhunter a stupid character (And yet he considers Aquaman to be fine). Plus, despite getting some elements of Batman V Superman, let's face facts: he got some elements very very wrong (I highly recommend watching the Nostalgia Critic review). This comic, thankfully, is silly and colorful and everything that Snyder is not. And I'm darn proud of it.
  19. 9/3/16 - Birdwatching at the SA Zoo

theheroesofcrash.com I'm finally back from my San Antonio trip! It was a lot of fun, but getting back on track after such a long vacation is not quite so easy, so I decided to do a filler, similar to the San Antonio postcards I did some years back. Among the sights I got to see on this trip was the San Antonio Zoo. Belt Boy's right; there ARE a lot of birds at this zoo (especially compared to Philly's zoo)... but it's also filled with Poké-stops! Don't worry, folks; I paid more attention to the real live critters inhabiting the zoo than the digital ones! By the way, did you get a chance to listen to The Playlist of C.R.A.S.H. while I was gone? In case you missed my last update, it's a collection of thirty songs, all related to your favorite HoC characters. You can search for it on Spotify, as I've put the playlist there. However, it's come to my attention that HoC fan Grayson Judd recreated this playlist on YouTube, so you can search for and watch The Playlist of C.R.A.S.H. there, too! Sweet!
  20. theheroesofcrash.com As I've grown as a writer, I've been worried about making Belt Boy (and his relationship with Titanium Maiden) seem too perfect, like a Mary Sue. Perfect is not funny. It's boring. Trying to be perfect - and failing - is funny and relateable, and in case you haven't guessed, that's the concept behind this storyline. Belt Boy always means well, but one thing I learned from looking back on my high school days is that even well-meaning people can be obnoxious, especially when they're teenagers who are still learning more complex social and moral rules. Belt Boy has a problem that I had in high school (and that, to some degree, I still deal with), and that's being oblivious. While not the worst character flaw to have, it can make some people feel offended, ignored, or unimportant when you don't pay attention to them or prioritize other things over them. Conflict arises in stories where one character's wants/needs conflict with another's; in this instance, Belt Boy has let his obsession over being perfect take priority over TM and Cannon's wanting to be heard. As Belt Boy's always a do-gooder and being heard is a basic emotional need, these issues seem totally within character for Belt Boy and TM (I hate it when a cartoon character randomly develops a character flaw for one episode just so they can awkwardly cram a moral in there).
  21. theheroesofcrash.com I've been working really hard at trying to improve my comic's art and writing, whether it's been working on anatomy, perspective, punchlines, or character development. However, today's strip reminded me that sometimes, you need to throw some of those things out the window. If you haven't read today's comic, please do so before continuing with this commentary. You finished reading it? Good. This strip, in many ways, does not make sense. Take panel #2: I agonized over this panel SO MUCH, trying to get the perspective just right. I drew and redrew it. At one point, the table was in the panel. However, when I couldn't get it to look right, I decided to go with Disney's concept of "the plausible impossible" - little tricks that break the laws of physics, but seem fine to the viewer (such as the fact that Mickey's ears only change angles - never appear flat - when his head is viewed from the side, or how Jiminy Cricket shrinks - unnoticed by the viewing audience - throughout a scene in Pinnocchio in order to fit inside a padlock). The table in panel #2 should be visible from this angle, but it's not. But the image makes sense to the viewer anyway. Sometimes aesthetics trump realism. Second, why is Klawroc asking such esoteric questions? The answer is simply, "Who cares?". Clearly, all these random subjects must have been covered in a previous class, but what goat webs and lasers have to do with one another is anyone's guess. But I hope you enjoyed some random science trivia! Also, I totally ignored my new model sheets for Cannon in this strip, and I think he looks better this way. I may need to update those model sheets.
  22. theheroesofcrash.com If you saw my 6/21 Daily Drawing, you probably know all about HiveMind. If not (or if you need a refresher), here's some info on her: The world is a diverse place, but if you read superhero comics, you might not think that. The comic pages are dominated by white guys, and that's a poor reflection on how the real world is. My comic suffers from the same problem, and I'm looking to add diversity to my comic. With this (and many other ideas I've had floating around) in mind, I created HiveMind - a superheroine who's telepathically linked to a swarm of alien bees. She has Vitiligo - the same skin condition that Michael Jackson had, and that model Winnie Marlow has (HiveMind was inspired by the latter) - in which the skin becomes lighter in blotches, most obviously around the eyes, nose, mouth, and hands. The blotches on her face resemble a stripe - meant to suggest that she has embraced her appearance and sees it as a thing of beauty; the "bee stripes" on her dress are an extention of her appearance, rather than a distraction. In my initial design, the stripe pattern continued down her arms, but I changed that; I want real people to look at HiveMind and say, "She looks like me!", and that couldn't happen if I took too many liberties with her design. By the way, if you can't read the title of Belt Boy's blue book, it's "Writing the Perfect Extra-Credit Essay".
  23. 5/21/16 - Birthday Fanart Contest Winner: Autumnotopia! Well, folks, my birthday has come and gone, and with it, the contest deadline. And now we have our winner! Autumnotopia has created this beautiful picture of Cannon, initially intended to be part of a triptych - a three-part picture. While she was only able to submit one section of the triptych before the deadline, it still looks amazing all by itself (And I'm certain Cannon agrees!). I hope that she's able to follow this up with parts 2 and 3 at some point...! Thanks again for your submission, Autumnotopia! :-)
  24. 10 Years of The Heroes of C.R.A.S.H.!

5/14/16 - Ten Years of The Heroes of C.R.A.S.H.! theheroesofcrash.com It's hard to believe it, but this is the tenth anniversary of The Heroes of C.R.A.S.H. (Well, technically, it turned ten sometime in January or February, but I'm not sure what day my site actually went online, so I just celebrate it alongside my birthday. But I digress.)! It's been an amazing ten years. While I may not have made any money or gained the notoriety of many of my peers, I can say that it's been fun challenging my brain's creativity lobe to come up with loveable characters, cool stories, and funny jokes on a regular basis. As you can see from my filler, my art and characters have evolved quite a bit in that time. Who knows how they will look ten years from now...? Here's to finding out! I want to thank everyone who's supported me during this time: my family (especially my Mom, whom I got my artistic genes from), my girlfriend Melissa, my friends (Including my computer-fixer Chris and my #1 commenter Gill, who also inspired Cannon and Sugar Rush respectively), all the cool comic artists I've met and chatted with over the years (There's way too many to list - go see my Links page and read their amazing work!), the folks at the 910CMX forums for hosting my own forum (and subsequently helping me to start growing a readership!), many of my teachers (Particularly my patient Junior High and High School art teachers, Mrs. Eichelberger and Pam Grumbach... as well as one IMpatient 5th grade teacher who told me I was too creative. I not only showed her wrong, but I based Battle-Axe Beatrix on her. Heh heh heh...!), and the many cartoonists who inspired me (Once again, too many to list, but I do want to give extra kudos to Kevin Eastman, Peter Laird, Tom Warburton, Butch Hartman, Chuck Jones, Charles Schulz, and Walt Disney). And of course, I couldn't have done it without Belt Boy, Cannon, and Titanium Maiden. Thanks for everything, guys! smile emoticon Anyway, if you want to help me celebrate my comic's tenth anniversary AND my birthday, then you should enter my fan art contest or my fan avatar contest by May 19th! You don't have much time left, so do it A-S-A-Now! Oh, and to all my friends who follow me on social media, here's some bonus factoids about today's tribute: - In case it's not obvious, my characters on the left are drawn in a style meant to emulate that which I used when I first started the comic. Back then I drew with a mouse! I was going to use a mouse once again, but Manga Studio lacks the auto-smoothing capabilities of Flash, so I still used a stylus - Retro Belt Boy lacks a "mullet" in the back, TM's got different eyes, shoes, hair, and abs, and Cannon's got stripes on his shoes. And of course, they have thick, sloppy outlines and diamond-shaped muscles. - I wasn't sure how to fit Cannon in with Belt Boy and TM on the sides of the big number 10 without blocking them, and I wasn't sure how excited he'd get over this milestone... so I just had him sitting in front of the lettering and reading comics obnoxiously. - Cannon's having a greater interest in his comic books than the world around him is largely inspired by Jason Grey from the webcomic The Wotch. Cannon's comic cover resemble's Jason's shirt, which was also used as the logo of the 910CMX forums, which hosts my forum, of course!) - The background is gray, just like in the first HoC desktop and the 5th anniversary picture, albeit with a different gradient look to it. - I still want more fan art, folks! Okay, that may not qualify as a "bonus factoid", but it's still true. Send me your entries!
