Let's Do The Time Warp, Again

With the way the narrative of the current main story is jumping around, we should be used to this by now

What I don't understand is why should a room with a couch be warmer than any other room?

A room with a couch implies that people will be spending time there.  And people like it to not be chilly in rooms that they spend time in.  Or something like that.

I would assume that Edward’s desire to conserve energy and save on the power bill is the reason why there is no heater in the basement.

Heat rises.  Most basements are where the heater is.  At least in the few houses I've had any thing to do with that had a basement.

Furnaces may be in the basement in homes that have both basements and furnaces, but the furnaces are set up to channel the heat into the main part of the house rather than to warm the basement itself.
