Player Nanase put Charachter Nanase into a position where she could be hurt or worse.

Now Ellen must steel her resolve to let the dice roll as they may and make Nanase face the consequences of her actions.

This is why Ellen is not a good Game Master.

Good GMs enjoy making the players suffer.

Ellen does not want to hurt Nanase's character, that is evident in panel one. But she thinks she will rob Nanase of the real experience if she fudges the results.

I am curious where Dan is going with this. There are many possibilities.

Assuming any version of D&D other than 4th ed a single low AC (or high in the case of pre 3rd ed) character fighting 4 even vaguely competent opponents your going to have a A Bad Day.  It's possible that Nanase plan is to have them chase her to the traps, and them triggering it and only affecting the NPCs.  As far as clearing the rubble goes, they all have pick axes.

If her character has Nanase's stamina, she could just keep running. Return to town, maybe?

Again, assuming D&D rules, you can "dash" forever, at least I think you can.  Haven't needed to look that up.
